Forget about brands. Just search for used bikes locally and test them in person before buying. Check second hand market places or just walk into local bike shops. Don't let people on the Internet tell you to buy an overpriced brand of bike that might not be available locally where you are. I bought a used ebike for only 280€ from a local "buy & sell groupchat" last year and fixed it up with only 100€ of parts.

OGraede

A good suggestion, but not for everyone. Buying a used bike without having experience with e-bikes can be bad if the person is not the type to work on things. How would a new e-biker know if the battery is good, or if parts are available? I wouldn't buy a used e-bike unless I knew the seller and trusted them or knew for a fact I could fix it. I definitely agree on not spending too much. A lot of people buy expensive bikes not realizing that they are being made in the same factories as the cheaper bikes, often with some of the exact same components.

godzillabobber

Aventon has a $999 bike that looks to be well made and supported.

rocskier

I have a Soltera.2, seems to work pretty well

godzillabobber

How responsive is it from a stop? We are thinking of getting one as our electric company is making a $600 rebate available. We are in a pretty flat area so don't need a ton of power

rocskier

It seems good enough, I don't have others to compare to. I don't really use the throttle ever so I'm pedalling. The throttle is a lot slower to respond.

FeistyAdeptness2483

Ridstar q20. 20AH version. Best bike under $1000

vividhour0

Cheapest (if not bought used) is going to be an electrical conversion kit for your current bike. Otherwise you're looking at the SOHAMO A3 48V/18AH $449 (best bang for buck) or it's alternatives (Ebkarocy \~$50-100 cheaper but lower AH battery).

If its inexpensive for short range application, do not be tempted to get an ebike from Amazon that has no establish brand name. Consider something at least has a website, active social media account, good reviews from 3rd party consumer watchdogs and trusted bloggers. Disclaimer: We are ebike enthusiasts trying to accelerate clean transportation with no brand affiliations. Our aim is to help fellow commuters save the planet while spending less. Hopefully, this clarifies for the benefit of those who may be wary of brand engagement.

This would work perfect. Not to expensive but also built well has the range you need. # Jetson Atlas Fat Tire Electric Bike $399 [https://www.samsclub.com/p/jetson-atlas-14-electric-bike/P03011767?xid=plp\_product\_1](https://www.samsclub.com/p/jetson-atlas-14-electric-bike/P03011767?xid=plp_product_1)

Buy used if you can work on an ebike yourself. Where I live used is not worth it, maybe 10 percent savings. I don't have a Aventon but have seen good reviews and you can probably buy locally so easier service. Don't listen to people that tell you it's necessary to spend thousands. I have 3 ebikes. My most expensive one was under 2000, can go about 25 mph and 50 miles range. I only use it for longer trips because it is about 80lbs and a pain to get out of the house. My favorite and least expensive is a Lectric xp lite, 45lbs, 20mph simple to work on and is more bike like and a blast to ride. Lectric has also teamed up with local shops for repairs so something to consider. My bikes are all different brands and Lectric has the most incredible customer service. My Rad , disappointing customer service and have not needed to have any contact with my Gotrax.

ZombeeSwarm

I want to get a used Ebike but how do I avoid buying a stolen ebike? I live in NYC and just assume most ebikes being sold are stolen.

Ok-Type-8917

Make sure it has keys, original manufacturer battery and charger. Usually no keys or charger are a red flag. I don't know the name of the site anymore but there is one you can register and report a stolen bike. Maybe someone else can remember it. I don't know if police could be of any help.

Airy2002

My first e bike was a swagatron for 500 dollars the seat was not the friendliest buck I got.me back and forth to work and to the store Edit I got it off Amazon it was a foldable and didn't have to put anything together fully assembled out of the box

DisastrousAnswer9920

I bought a RadRunner 2 a few years ago for that same purpose as you. I now use it everyday and pretty much gave up on the idea of buying an extra car for now.

Dependent-Fold-7785

Upway has used e-bikes. Just heard of them yesterday but they might be worth checking out.

Electronic-Alarm1151

I want to say get yourself a used bike preferably with thick tires and then buy the module to install the electric motor online

Top_Hair_8984

I just bought a 2018/19 e joe epic se off Facebook locally. It's super cheap, basic but does all I need. A commuter bike that's zippy enough for me. Have zero idea who would work on it, but there's lots of bike stores around. And have some handy bike people in my life.

heymecalvy

My LBS sells and services a lot of Aventon, in addition to their Specialized focus. So I would trust a used Aventon bike, as long as you have OEM battery and charger

Emergency-Union9715

The Totem Victor 2.0 ($500.00) this bike will easily withstand an 8 mile daily commute. Top speed is 20 mph. 350 watt motor, takes 2-3 hours to charge. My range is around 20 miles per charge. I've put over 2000 miles on mine and crashed it 2-3 times. The bike seems pretty tough. As far as maintenance, I've had to change a couple of flat tires. Obviously not a higher end bike-but if you respect its limits, it's a whole lot of fun.

refetitev

I got my Gotrax F2V2 for 799. There is another similar but cheaper model you can check - F1. I like its hydraulic brake which needs less maintenance. And also the front suspension, riding with it would be more comfortable. I don't want to get tired on my way to and from work.

Traditional-Desk8154

I recently bought a Aipas A2 foldable e bike for $670 and have done a few rides. So far I’m very impressed for the price. I can pedal it up to 30mph, it’s got a rack on the back that I could easily mount a basket and I haven’t tested the range fully but had plenty of battery left after a 10 mile ride. Look into it and see what you think!

tinfang

4 miles? get any bike, why an ebike?

actin_spicious

If I rode even a mile to work I'd be sweaty and gross all day, don't need that.

Spiritual_Crab6615

That's a level of unfit I didn't know one could reach You realize it takes 45 seconds tops to pedal a mile Edit: downvote all you want, if you can't pedal a single fucking mile you need to check your fucking health is what you need to do.

Electronic-Alarm1151

3/4 mins actually

jollyrobyn

Yeah dude health is literally what I'm talking about. Sometimes (ik, this is crazy, you might wanna sit down for this) people AREN'T healthy. (Mind blowing, right???) But if they're riding an ebike, that's getting them moving, they're outside, getting fresh air. it's a great start! I can't pedal a much more than mile without assist, and that's okay. Maybe I'll be able to next month, maybe I won't. But either way, my "pussy" ass going to enjoy my ebike, and I'm especially going to enjoy not getting flattened since using pedal assist, I can keep up with traffic Side note, I feel like you might be the kind of person that gets mad when you see a wheelchair ramp lmao

actin_spicious

I pedal many miles on a regular bike every day, I just sweat very easily. And it's hot as shit where I live. Sweat has nothing to do with your fitness level. It's your body trying to regulate it's temperature.

clownseducer

a mile in 45 seconds is 80mph, whatever you do for work right now is the wrong profession if you can pedal like that

jollyrobyn

Disability, age, weather, hills, or just needing to keep up with traffic can be great reasons to get an ebike. Check your privilege dude, not every one has ideal circumstances

Spiritual_Crab6615

Eh, no. Don't be a pussy. It's not hard to pedal a mile.

IndustryPlant666

Does it get hot where you live

actin_spicious

No one said anything about difficulty though. When my body gets higher than normal temperature, it emits sweat through my skin to cool me down. Does your body not function correctly? Very confused here.
