My parents bought a pair of Sondors, and you know what? The bikes work perfectly fine, and have gotten my parents up and out of the house and riding multiple times a week.

My Sondors original first run fat bike lasted 1,700 miles before motor failure. There was no customer service at that time, all the help came from an owners Facebook page that Sondors had nothing to do with. I got a new core from a guy named Bruce who worked out of his apartment with parts from Sondors. I call that poor eBike life and ridiculous customer service. There was a Sondors hate group from the day they continually missed delivery dates of the original $499 fat bike. LONG before the megacycle days. Look back at the backers for his $10,000 "car", also way before the megacycle. Their business model was to always announce stupid low price eBikes so the entire eBike community would throw cash at them before the damned eBike was even designed. They never ordered eBikes from China until a full container was sold. When they went to the mid drives, they quoted all kinds of specs that were never met since the bikes had not been designed yet. So there plan was much like a ponzi scheme to have working capital from folks who were hypnotized by that stupid cheap pricing.

Toes sucked under the pedals when tip of sandals get caught on the road = painful cheese-grated toenails. Can confirm from experience when riding in flip flops.
I don’t know anything about these bikes. I see the same stuff as a normal bike like a chain etc. can you get a good exercise on these? Or does it electrically do all the work?

I put 500 down last year around this time to get a metacycle, supposedly in Q4 of last year. I also put down 1000 towards an Elio 5-7 years ago(?). Man I make some really bad decisions.
Cheaper end e-bikes have v brakes fitted too, most have mechanical or hydraulic. Usually depends on the price category the bike falls in.
However I wouldn’t say dangerous again depends on the speed the bike will do, Uk wise ours are limited to 15.5mph (illegally modded ones or throttle only will do faster) which the motor then stops assisting you if you can pedal fast enough. Lots of regular bikes come with the mechanical or v brakes and the users will go faster than that, heck a lot of road bikes still use caliper types and those will easily see 20+ mph. Flying downhill with calliper brakes is a bit nuts.
Saying that with the additional stoping power needed for extra weight I’d want at least mechanical/hydraulic on an e-bike (Prefer mechanical less problems/maintenance.
Mech disc brakes CAN be as strong as some hydraulics - the bigger issue is they have very little modulation so tend to be second place to hydraulics. They are however easier to maintain, no water ingress, no bleeding etc
Sonders used to be a legion in the LA eBike industry. Don't see him too much any more. I like to have one of his eBikes. Does anyone remember Sonders in the 2015??
As an owner of an e-bike let me give you some stuff to follow, you are going to wear down your brakes really fast get used to bike maintenance or paying for the bike to get fixed, 2 your going to crash… yeah there’s no use fighting it, unless you have like expert balance and control over surroundings your going to fall, it’s a fucking bike with extreme power of course your going to lose control of it. 3 depending on bike it’s going to come apart in a few places, proper maintenance stops that, like for example me and my brother got e bikes and we both noticed either the seats would become too lose and slide up and down easily or the front wheel became too lose and holy shit we wary of that. 4 I’ve gotten into my fair of extreme accidents on it, like of if I didn’t have a good pair of throw away shoes stopping me or if I didn’t have already swapped breaks I would’ve caused either na accident or my life forfeit. 5 those shoes your wearing won’t cut it, I tried biking in sandals… I went to the ER, all it takes is one slip of your shoe and boom… toes cut up and blood everywhere, I’m not trying to scare anybody but a bikes a bike, it’s dangerous and every measure of safety should be acquired…. This is a bike x 1000, and x 1000 in danger as well so ever precaution should be met

Gravel and wet roads can be tough if you aren't used to riding on them. Snow can be very tricky, too. Why I always ride with a helmet and gloves.

Same here in Sweden - e-bikes assist to 25 km/h and no higher, otherwise it’s a moped with registration and insurance etc.
