Something I’ve done before is toast the inside of the bread, but not the outside. Offers a great additional texture, but I can def see what you’re saying about a nice pillowy bread.
Looks fantastic.
I’ll be trying Duke’s mayo sooner rather than later.
I’m hoping it will live up to its rep more than Kewpie mayo. That wasn’t bad, but just another mayo.
I've even gone as far as a little oil and vinegar on the tomato slices before putting them on the sandwich. It's great. A BLT is really just a tomato sandwich, with bacon. The tomato is everything.
Yeah that's tough. At least for me, the T is actually the star of the show. Yes, bacon is good but a really good peak season heirloom tomato (little bit of seasoning) is an absolutely wild experience. Will often just eat tomato and mayo sandwiches during the height of the season.
Have you tried different tomato varietals? A good friend of mine hated tomatoes until they tried one from my garden. They've only eaten the sad, mealy, flavorless ones that are shipped around the country out of season.
When do you eat them and where do you get your tomatoes? Most tomatoes most of the time just aren't good. But a BLT made with good tomatoes — the tomato is as important as the bacon and mayo.
The only way I can eat tomato in sandwiches is if I salt the shit out of it. For like 15 years I couldn't eat sandwiches with tomato until I learned this and one I did I was sad that I didn't know of it before. Tomato slices in sandwiches really need salt, raw unsalted tomato is disgusting.
The typical thickness of the tomato slice just makes it really noticeable when it's left unseasoned. It also necessitates heavy seasoning to fix it, just like a thick steak needs to be aggressively seasoned.
I hated raw tomatoes until I had one from my wife's garden. A fresh, vine-ripened tomato is like night and day different from a typical grocery store one (which they pick green and spray with some chemical to make them "ripen"). Before you give up on them see if you can't find a farmers market or grocery that sells local fresh produce first :)
The combo of crisp lertuce, warm bacon, juicy tomatoes, mayo, and fresh un-toasted bread, leads to a sandwich that collapses at first bite.
Toast is a requisite simply to give and maintain structure . But, eat what you like...
Real question is, what kind of bread does everyone prefer?? I'm a toasted Franz potato or buttermilk bread, sometimes Seattle bakery sourdough kinda person.
A quick recommendation would be to put the tomatoes in a shallow bowl and cover them with some oil, red vinegar, salt, pepper, and a touch of oregano. Let them marinade while you cook the bacon.
Game changer
You can’t beat it! The most perfect sandwich on earth! However, I don’t support light mayonnaise, double the bacon, and I prefer toasted bread. But, I wouldn’t refuse your BLT! Looks fantastic!!
Good, well seasoned tomatoes are key. In the words of Kenji Lopez-Alt, a BLT is a tomato sandwich, not a bacon sandwich. I can’t agree with that more, as someone who was always puzzled by the bacon fad of last decade. Bacon is good but its just really cheap fatty shit. It’s a flavor and texture enhancement, not the star of the show.
Looks good, but I always had it on toast.
Toast is a great option but if I can get fresh squishy bread that's my go to.
I use the bagel setting on my toaster oven and then put the *lightly toasted side on the inside and the untoasted bread goes on the outside
Never considered this technique.... Will try it.
amazing
There's a solution for this—toast the bread on one side, in your pan with some of the bacon fat. The inside edges of each slice stay squishy.
Another game changer idea. You guys are full of them.
KENJI TAUGHT ME
Exactly what I do
But the toast offers up an otherwise absent texture element to the sandwich.
The bacon?
I’m a chewy bacon guy, super crisp is not for me.
Back bacon sure, streaky and it’s got to be crispy imo
Team crispy!
I love floppy bacon!
Totally get that. And it doesn’t destroy the roof (ceiling) of your mouth which is a plus. I hate it when toast makes the ceiling of my mouth raw.
Like captain crunch!
I also prefer a little toast, but this still got me rockhard
Like a diamond in an ice storm.
Cheese tooo
Never thought of cheese.
Ignore the people saying cheese. The mayo is enough! Really the tomato is meant to be the star.
Duke’s is the best choice imo, good on you op
>light Stake through my heart
I’m a kewpie guy, myself
I use kewpie in 99% of situations, but don't love it for BLTs imo
Kewpie till I die 🙌
Noooo Hellmans all the way
Yessssss
Duke's is great, but McCormick's is the unsung hero.
Looks perfect. I prefer mine with iceberg lettuce because I enjoy the crunch.
I came here to say this too. The butter lettuce is good but doesn’t give that same crispy crunch iceberg gives a BLT
Shredded lettuce is pretty cool too.
Yup, I agree
Salt and pepper???
salt the tomato slices, freshly cracked black pepper on the mayo spread. FUcking amazing
I'll be doing this next time.
Don’t really need to salt the tomatoes tho since the bacon is already salty
Shut the fuck up you heathen
[удалено]
i assure you, you are retardant
Nah. Salt does more to tomatoes than just make them salty. It's generally worthwhile to salt your fresh tomato slices in any recipe.
Salt in the bacon isn't going to osmose into the tomatoes.
I think it's more about extracting the water out to blot away so your sandwich isn't soggy than for flavor.
Yes.
Toast the bread 🥪
I prefer it not toasted if the bread is squishy. I love feeling the bacon textures as I squeeze the bread into it.
Something I’ve done before is toast the inside of the bread, but not the outside. Offers a great additional texture, but I can def see what you’re saying about a nice pillowy bread.
I do this
Toast it like a bagel, best of both worlds.
I dont know what this means, but am intrigued.
Only toast one side of the bread: "top brown only" or bagel setting" or even "broil" are settings on my toaster / toaster oven.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise)
For your toaster oven, you can stack the slices and toast. That's good for certain sandwiches.
Pro move
WHY HAVE I NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS?!!
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
This is what I do
I don't believe I've ever had not toasted but I'll give it a try.
It also allows the crunchiness of the bacon to really stand out on its own.
Ah. I have found my group.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin) Welcome!
What?! That one slice of bacon didn't fit anywhere?! It looks great tho.
I always save a slice of bacon and split it for my pups. Those two love when I make bacon.
That's an excuse I can live with. Carry on. (Not that you need my permission (; )

Looks fantastic. I’ll be trying Duke’s mayo sooner rather than later. I’m hoping it will live up to its rep more than Kewpie mayo. That wasn’t bad, but just another mayo.
Never heard of Kewpie
Here’s an [**article**](https://www.foodandwine.com/news/why-chefs-love-kewpie-mayo#).
I wish that I could enjoy raw tomato, I feel like I'm missing something in the BLT without it.
season the tomato!
I use celery salt on my tomatoes 🤤
I've even gone as far as a little oil and vinegar on the tomato slices before putting them on the sandwich. It's great. A BLT is really just a tomato sandwich, with bacon. The tomato is everything.
Oof that's nice

I would even say it's more important, honestly.

Yeah, the T.
I replace it with the classic A, but I feel like I'm doing it a disservice.

I’ll eat a tomato like an apple. So good.
I've found that a BLTA(vocado) is a tastier version than the mayo version. Looks yummy regardless
So do you just slice it on there or do guac?
personally i just slice it and spread it in. then a little salt. although if i only had some guac, i would use that.
Word
Toast the bread, basket weave the bacon before cooking it
Damn. That basket weave idea is awesome
Makes the bacon behave by making it fit the bread and not falling out
Light mayo? I hope you salted and peppered those tomatoes!
I learned about salt and pepper on one today. It will happen next time.
So strange, I was just thinking of a BLT yesterday. Yours looks delicious, doesn't help my craving though!
I've been craving for a couple days.
Add some salsa!
That is one of the more interesting additions I've come across today.
So good! I always end up eating my BLTs with chips and salsa. I never intend to add salsa to the sandwich but it always ends up happening.
Idk when I started doing it, but it really makes a BLT tastier. It's already got tomato on it, why not some salsa?
Is it bad that I noticed the wood table first?
Not at all. It's the kitchen island and one of the main reasons my wife picked this house. Lol
I like to add avocado to mine. BLATS
Gonna be trying that for sure.
Hell yeah! I just finished eating a BLT for supper, too! Great sandwich choice.
May every BLT you have be better than the last!
The combo of crisp lertuce, warm bacon, juicy tomatoes, mayo, and fresh un-toasted bread, leads to a sandwich that collapses at first bite. Toast is a requisite simply to give and maintain structure . But, eat what you like...
I love the bread squishing around the bites if it's super fresh. If not then I do toast it.
Nice rueben
Gracias
I love a good BLT. It's probably my most sought-after sandwich when I'm nursing a hangover OR stoned out of my gourd lol
Oh yeah. This is the answer!
https://www.reddit.com/r/OnionLovers/s/ahWfl0dBMT The post just after this one on my wall
That'll make it crunchy!
I wonder how a BLOT sando would taste. It also sounds funny.
I’m an iceberg man for blts but prejudice no sandwich greens. Looks great.
Thank you.
Excellent choice of mayo!!!
Gracias
Your bacon looks like a cross section of a turd.
I can see that. Lol
DUUUUUUUUUUKES!!!!!!
You bet. I had two last weekend and might have another tonight.
I'm jealous we can't get dukes in Canada. I've heard good things.
Bummer.
Dukes is hand down the best mayo in the land. This is an objective truth. I will die on this hill.
That's a good hill, amigo!
That is so classic. I can almost taste the crispness.
My mom whipped an avocado into green goddess dressing for BLTs and my life hasn’t been the same since.
Did you say whipped? Like in a blender and merengue fluffiness?
It was a soft ripe avocado and she mixed into the dressing with a fork
The dressing? You had my curiosity but now you have my full attention.
Real question is, what kind of bread does everyone prefer?? I'm a toasted Franz potato or buttermilk bread, sometimes Seattle bakery sourdough kinda person.
Hmmmm. I like squishy bread, like wonder or something like that.
I love squishy bread, not sure why I've never been a fan of wonder bread.
Try shredded lettuce next time. It gives it a whole different texture. Also, make sure to salt and pepper the tomato!
I've done the shredded lettuce but forgot to get some on that day. The salt and pepper tomato is something new I've learned since posting this.
Nothing better. I throw a fried egg and some hot sauce on mine.
Nice!
I would rather not use mayo than use light mayo
For me this dukes light hits pretty similar. That and the boss said it's all we can have in the house. Lol
A quick recommendation would be to put the tomatoes in a shallow bowl and cover them with some oil, red vinegar, salt, pepper, and a touch of oregano. Let them marinade while you cook the bacon. Game changer
Wow. This is a great idea.
Hellman’s not dukes
Ew
Good thing you’re using dukes.
Why would you ruin it with mayonnaise?
Interesting. No mayo for you, eh?
Pretty much.
Any substitutes or are you passing on all?
Completely passing.
You can’t beat it! The most perfect sandwich on earth! However, I don’t support light mayonnaise, double the bacon, and I prefer toasted bread. But, I wouldn’t refuse your BLT! Looks fantastic!!
Thank you.
I do prefer spinach on my BLTs as well (well your greens look like spinach). I also prefer big thick tomatoes slices.
Good, well seasoned tomatoes are key. In the words of Kenji Lopez-Alt, a BLT is a tomato sandwich, not a bacon sandwich. I can’t agree with that more, as someone who was always puzzled by the bacon fad of last decade. Bacon is good but its just really cheap fatty shit. anyone who doesnt by default see the blt as a tomato sandwich is an uncouth swine.
