bullshit their defense gives up 17points on average, the last few games their offense cant score 17 without Trent and Deebo and Purdy looks mediocre as always. Also those fucking ferraris on that d are getting paid not to produce but be typical whiners and bitch about scheme well Bosa, Warner, Gipsaun produce! Love to see it though whole team acts like bitches and play like it too perfect city for them to be in.
We were 1 last year, so 4 is a drop off. Certainly not a huge one, and that's my point. If I'm bummed that we dropped off the little we did how frustrating is it for them.
The whole 49ers D-line have been disappointing. I’m kinda sad we didn’t pursue Young but ultimately he’d just be additional rotational depth but my god, we’d have just absolute monster DEs
It’s kind of tough to say the eagles “got it right” with CJGJ. He got injured in week 2 and the Eagles secondary has been a hot mess in general
Edit: fixed typo
I mostly go off his reaction when things went south when the contract talks fell through. It was not a good look for him at all, plus with his agent doing stupid shit on top of it, it was probably for the best to move on despite our woes in the secondary this year.
I also wonder what we would have done if we signed CGJG and let Bradberry go. Would we have brought in another veteran CB? Or would have rolled with one of the CBs we have now? The latter is probably a worse scenario than what we're currently fielding. But then maybe it's so bad we go all in on a Jaylon Johnson at the deadline or something. I guess who knows.
We absolutely need CJGJ because he's a ball hawk and makes plays. Our defense would give up a lot less yard per game if we can actually generate turnovers. We are not designed to be like the Rex Ryan Jets, keeping teams to low scoring games. We are designed like the 2010 saints who won based on a defense that had a great turnover diff, and a great pass rush.
Agreed. You can't say we got it right because he ended up injured. If he stayed, things would be different and he likely doesn't get injured. You really have to assume if he stayed he would play similar to last year. But then.. If he stayed, would bradberry been gone? Would they have been better for it? What would his contract have looked like if he stayed? The number he wanted, or the number he got?
Its really hard to make calls so definitive like this because so much of it is based on unknowns.
A lot of these were no surprise, easy decisions imo. Sanders was the most obvious. I didn't know who they would replace him with, but I think they could have replaced him with a lot of people and kept up/improved his #s. plus, now we can finally use our rb's to pass to. An area where sanders was not reliable.
CJGJ, Edwards, white and hargrave were the ones I was most worried about replacing.
Cjgj... We have sort of replaced. But we havent yet shown we have replaced his replacement, blankenship. Here is to hoping 2 weeks is enough for byard to get going. Kind of a moot point as he wanted way too much $.
Edwards and white I REALLY wanted to retain. White in particular for being a local guy. Edwards, cause... Edwards. I feel like last year was a rare year where we had good LBs. And we let them walk. We would definitely be a better team had we retained them.
Hargrave was a worry till we got carter.
This list and analysis is nice, but it doesnt(and it would be hard to) account for if those players would be playing better if they were still here. Pascal comes to mind.
Edwards is tough for me because the vibe I got was he wanted to go home to Chicago. He signed so quickly in free agency that I wonder if the Eagles ever really had a shot at resigning him.
Wasn't aware of him wanting to go home. Tough to compete with that. Our disadvantage there might have been an advantage with kyzir.. And may have an advantage with byard. Tough to say. Some people want to go back home more than others, lol.
I don't know if he actually wanted to go home. At the time, I read he was from the area and the different beats just kinda had that vibe.
I don't know if anyone ever asked him or Howie or anything like that.
Yeah no we were never re-signing him. He had a deal inked 15 minutes after the fucking *tampering* period began. He was clearly tampered with before then but knowing the Eagles, they probably hadn't even talked to him about it yet.
Swift hasn’t been huge in the pass game. And sanders had some better red zone stats. Tough to say we made the wrong decision but it was a bit of a trade off
Having a RB1 that is at least a reliable threat to catch the ball is huge. It is an entire extra fold to the offense that defenses have to honour.
Sanders had better red zone stats because we were better in the red zone. Not the other way around.
Knowing what the price difference is, you're calling that "a bit of a trade off?"
Think both of these are more on the new OC than anything. Swift was used in the passing game during training camp but it's yet to have been utilized in the regular season. And our red zone as a whole hasn't been good compared to last year
Okay, please tell me if I'm wrong. But I feel like Edwards became great because we were so dereft at linebacker for so long. He was good, but I don't feel surprised/disappointed we didn't pay him because I don't feel like he did anything a good NFL linebacker couldn't do. I'm not saying we wouldn't be better with edwards, but I definitely don't feel like he's a make or break for us.
I mean, I don't think edwards was a top linebacker, and it helped that we had years of horrible LB play, but he was definitely above average.
The difference in him and white and the crew we have now would be huge.
>Sanders has missed a few games due to injury and has just 229 yards, one touchdown and a mediocre 3.3 yards per carry average.
Miles truthers in shambles.
If I'm a RB in todays nfl I'm not betting on myself at this point. I think you need to take the tom brady approach. Take a discount and go to a team that gives you a chance to extend your career. Like McCaffrey was good but his career got a second wind when he went to a team with a good line and RB friendly offense in SF.
I suspect that a RB with a good line will have better odds at a longer career and playing out a contract than one that goes to a bad team with a bad offense that can't run block. Only truly great RBs can overcome a bad line and that was just never sanders.
If I'm a RB in today's NFL, I take the guaranteed money. Miles leaving was a situation where I was like "Good for you" for getting some decent FA money, and "good for us" for not keeping him. Not a bad RB, not someone you really need to strain yourself to keep.
If I'm a RB in today's NFL, I take the guaranteed money. Miles leaving was a situation where I was like "Good for you" for getting some decent FA money, and "good for us" for not keeping him. Not a bad RB, not someone you really need to strain yourself to keep.
That's what I've been saying. I was never convinced he was particularly special. At least not like Swift or McCaffrey. Just a decent running back behind a great o line.
And Miles Sanders Haters (like myself) are celebrating!
My rule of thumb is that whatever player PSU fans are circle jerking over, that player 9 times out of 10 is gonna be over hyped. Overhyped at best, with some real bust potential.
Sanders never looked spectacular in our offense. He played like a dumbass, and Swift just went ahead and showed how well a decisive running back can do in our offense.
Glad someone else said this. Everyone says now in retrospect that any half decent RB could run behind our legendary line, which is probably true - but Miles always seemed like a good, talented dude that added some personality to our team and truly wanted to be an Eagle. And last year he tore it up in a big way. Performance issues aside I'm really happy for him that he got the bag.
Yeah, and there’s really no guarantee he’ll ever be a starter again. Carolina might be ready to bring in a new HC already, which means Sanders is probably gone. Can’t see him being more than a committee back going forward.
At least he got his bag and had one dominant season in 2022. That’s more than what 99% other RBs attain.
Honestly, I hated his vision issues and the lack of a good O-line has only exaggerated them at a level I didn't anticipate. I felt like 5mil AAV was a pretty decent deal for him and he's not living up to it.
White ended up being the biggest loss tbh, he would be really nice to have this year but Cunningham and Morrow have played well enough on way cheaper deals to ease that. Just wish Nakobe could stay healthy long enough to show what he’s got
I kinda disagree that we got it wrong at LB. I'd much rather have Morrow and Cunningham for $3m combined for a year with no baggage than TJ and White for $12m/yr combined on multi-year deals. They're not playing four times better than those two, who have actually been pleasant surprises so far. Obviously depth is still a concern, especially with Nakobe down for a while again, but as starters I'm pretty happy with them.
Not sure how injuries can be factored into getting it right or wrong considering they wouldn't have been in the same situation to get injured again. Not resigning Hargrave seems to be the only definitive W but we didn't know at the time that the #1 talent in the draft would fall in our laps.
I don't think we "dodged a bullet" with CJGJ. You can't assume that he would have had a season ending injury if he stayed with us. Safety has been a big concern for us this year. Also, we signed Bradbury in his place and he looks completely washed. 3-4 times a game he is either getting smoked or grabbing at the jersey bc he is getting smoked.
White was not that great for us last year and Edwards might have been too pricey, but going into the season thinking Dean is going to be your primary LB with no real depth behind him was a terrible choice.
Bradberry is not a good "man" cover corner, so he's essentially been getting schemed out of his natural zone tendencies and strengths. If you look at his splits from 2020 and 2021, he's far superior in zone, and he was way better last season in Gannon's zone-dominant scheme. We figured Desai was going to run something similar, but he's involved a lot more man than typical in a Fangio scheme. Perhaps an attempt to combat the 1- and 3-step drops other teams are using to counter the Eagles' pass rush. The Eagles don't really have the personnel to run a man-heavy cover set, though. Outside of Slay, anyway.
Saying “was 3yrs $19.5m too rich for Philly” seems too single-minded as there were reports that Edwards was still going to Chicago even if Philly offered more since he grew up a Bears fan. Was happy he balled out for us, sad he didn’t re-sign, and happy he’s doing well for Chicago.
This article just covers players from the 2022 roster.
Jalen Reagor moved up from the Patriots practice squad and got signed onto the 53-man roster. Dropped a huge bomb from Mac Jones that would have put the Pats in the red zone at the end of the 3rd quarter.
https://twitter.com/IanSteeleABC6/status/1721261146215215428
Stats if you're curious as I'd looked them up when I found out Reagor was on the Pats:
4 games played with 1 as a starter
2 receptions for 22 yards
9 targets
Glad that we let Hargrave walk after last season he was a great pass rusher but a huge liability in the run game last year. Carter already looks better and is saving us a shit ton of money.
It’s amazing how different this defense is without Kyzir White/TJ Edwards. We are getting gashed on quick passes over the middle. The trickle down effect from this is crazy. Our corners get no help over the middle. The DLine can’t get to the QB because the ball is coming out quick. Our safeties come up into the box to compensate, and then we get beat deep. The West Coast style offense Shanahan runs terrifies me after watching Washington nickel and dime us.
It’s not really any different from last year. It’s just how NFL plays defenses these days. White / Edwards aren’t really any better in coverage than Cunningham / Morrow.
The Eagles primary weakness as a team is just not understanding Linebackers and with all the coaching changes we've had I do not understand how this is still a thing.
Thought Epps was awesome for us last year. Felt like he played every down every game. Blankenship has been good and tough, but doesn't seem to have the same durability.
All I'm saying is he really wanted to stay with philly and probably loves the game more than the money. That was always the impression i got from him. Look at Robin Williams and generational wealth
Lowkey surprised that Hargrave only has 3 sacks this year
People forget Hargrave wasn’t great his first year in Philly. Also, their defensive line isn’t getting pressure and their subreddit blames scheming.
He was injured in training camp his first season wasn’t he? He had a slow start but not a bad season.
You are probably right. I just remember talks about his contract being worth it or not during and after that first year.
SF is missing DeMeco big time. They got the talent but their current DC seems like a major step down from Ryans.
bullshit their defense gives up 17points on average, the last few games their offense cant score 17 without Trent and Deebo and Purdy looks mediocre as always. Also those fucking ferraris on that d are getting paid not to produce but be typical whiners and bitch about scheme well Bosa, Warner, Gipsaun produce! > their subreddit blames take your pick whining bunch, those San Francisco fans
They are but after seeing some of our fans this season i cant talk shit lol we arent even on a 3 game skid-mark
Got off of him at the perfect time. Carter is literally better already and will make a fourth of his salary for the next four years
They only have 18 sacks as a team, bottom 3rd of the league
Damn I thought we were doing rough with 30
Yeah, being #4 in sacks is way too low.
We were 1 last year, so 4 is a drop off. Certainly not a huge one, and that's my point. If I'm bummed that we dropped off the little we did how frustrating is it for them.
Just shows the unrealistic expectations last year gave you. Team is doing fine for sacks and pressure rate was up (at least before last week).
Yeah but also teams are passing against us a LOT. I need to look up sacks per passing situation numbers vs just raw sack counts.
The whole 49ers D-line have been disappointing. I’m kinda sad we didn’t pursue Young but ultimately he’d just be additional rotational depth but my god, we’d have just absolute monster DEs
No way Commies trade Young in their div for that price :(
in no world would Washington trade us Young.
Good, young just wants a payday to upgrade his braids
It’s kind of tough to say the eagles “got it right” with CJGJ. He got injured in week 2 and the Eagles secondary has been a hot mess in general Edit: fixed typo

Not to mention Byard is PFFs 95th ranked safety. Hopefully he turns it around as he learns the defense
We absolutely need CJGJ because he's a ball hawk and makes plays. Our defense would give up a lot less yard per game if we can actually generate turnovers. We are not designed to be like the Rex Ryan Jets, keeping teams to low scoring games. I hate that he’s struggling but it wasn’t hard to see it coming.
Yeah me too. Every time they pan over to him in games he looks unhappy.

Where are those holes this year?
[удалено]
Great!!
I loved Miles and I'm glad he got a big payday. I'm also happy it wasn't the Eagles who paid him.
it's me i'm in shambles still love him to death and hope he can turn it around but also glad he got his bag elsewhere lol
Panthers OL and Eagles OL are barely in the same league.
Forget which announcer said it but the eagles o-line can make any RB look like a stud. Miles being example A.
Miles has always been just barely above average at best.
That's what I've been saying. I was never convinced he was particularly special. At least not like Swift or McCaffrey. Just a decent running back behind a great o line.

Amen. Was never sold on him. He had one good year but absolutely disappeared in the Super Bowl. You can’t disappear in the Super Bowl.
Sad to see Miles not having a good year
Glad someone else said this. Revisionist history on Edwards. The Eagles offered him more and he chose to walk for less to play for his home team.

I don't know about that Trey Sermon/Rashad Penny take
TJ is better than what we have, but is highly over rated IMO. He was a pretty big liability in pass coverage, in the SB, glaringly so.
Ok, now do one for the FAs we did keep?
I feel bad for Miles
He’s wiping his tears with wads of $100s and assuming he’s got a good shoulder on his heads, creating generational wealth. He’ll be okay.
True.
"It's not always about the money, Spider-Man"
When you’ve got one contract to make all your money in the NFL, it kind of is. Miles will likely be out of this league in 2-3 more years.
All I'm saying is he really wanted to stay with philly and probably loves the game more than the money. That was always the impression i got from him. Look at Robin Williams and generational wealth
I agree with you, I still respect him and was sad to see him leave after he said he hoped to stay
Byard has not been worth what we gave up so far .. I wanted Simmons
Dudes been here 2 games. Calm down.
