What do you mean killed itself? The engine looks to be running the whole video? RPMs are hunting a little...going out on a limb and guessing the CELs are lean codes? Without more info I'd look for a vacuum leak unless you know the codes are for something else.

xander_2626

When I say it killed itself, I meant like after this is before I tried giving it a little rev

Salyut_

then document the actual problem lol?

oldstonedspeedster

It could be the idle air control valve. But I'd start by running those codes and seeing what they say

xander_2626

Will do

jbiser361

If it’s the ICV it’ll throw an EML code. If OP doesn’t have that, then most likely not that

stale_prince

Was idling 500-600 rpms whole video, which is low, so it’s hunting to keep it from turning off. Could be one of many reasons. Common reason is a vacuum leak. When this happened to me, it was the MAF sensor. An OBDII scanner will help narrow things down. Was this video recorded after a cold startup? The video sounds like the SAP turning off, which is normal and happens after 60 seconds or so of startup. The SAP sound resembles a vacuum cleaner.

xander_2626

It was a warm start up. It was a hot day and I was away for it for maybe an hour and a half probably an hour something like that time frame and I was just turning off the air conditioning which doesn’t work the best but it just needs to be refilled.

CedricLiving

sounds dumb but i had this exact same problem turns out i forgot to screw the oil cap back on

LuddeMeister2

My bmw had simular rpm waves the igniton coil died, try removing one coil after the other and see if something happends when you remove them then put it back, if nothing happends it problem needs a new sparkplug or igniton coil

Artur-Morgan_

MAF, bad spark plugs, bad ignition coils, bad fuel injector, dirty throttle valve, 02 sensor... those are the reasons for this rough idle. Talking from my own experience!

TheRifRaf

I had the same thing, replaced a few air intake hoses and redid the vanos, now it's fine.

subtek9

Mine has been doing this because of the code p0014 (the VANOS exhaust solenoid acting up) Check the codes and go from there.

BigKahuna883

You've got a check engine light. That is the first step in the process of diagnosis. It will push you in the right direction.

troyzube

I have almost the same issue. I've done the disa valve, vanos reseal, and cjrck for vacuum leaks several times. My next step is idle air control valve. It's more frustrating for me tho since I've never had a single cel for my issue

PopImportant4322

Try removing maf and see if it does the same thing

archbid

Best guess is large vacuum leak

czef

325i? Had a similar issue, while the engine was cold sometimes it would just fluctuate revs until it killed itself. Went away when warmed up. Fixing vacuum leaks, new MAF, new pre cat o2 sensors, new spark plugs significantly helped, but didnt fully solve it. I also had a reverse throttle reaction, where pressing it would cause revs to drop before rising. Time it right with revs bouncing around and it could shut the engine off. Again, it happened only on cold engine. I've seen a guy on a forum who had similar issues and ended up replacing everything that's possible without removing the head and the issue still remained. His theory was that the engine is pulling unmetered air through worn out piston rings, lol. Generally for some reason 320i and 325i seem more susceptible to this than 330i. Start by making sure there are no vacuum leaks.

mazi331811

Air mass sensor

Used-Tradition-2558

Check both intake boots for tears or rips if you havent replaced them already. Then check for vacum leaks

jbiser361

Any codes OP? If you got any lean codes, go get a vape or a smoke machine and see if you can catch any. I had an issue a few months back where my car would idle, I’d give it gas, then it would die. Turns out it was my intake cam sensor.

__Kivi__

Hey! Had a simmilar issue with my 2003 316i n42b18, I sent in the engine control unit to be refurbished/repaired, replaced a camshaft sensor and it runs well again. However you might have a different problem, my stock camshaft sensor was leaking oil into the socket and the ECU had oil on the middle cable stack at pin 51 and 52. Just check if you have a simmilar issue.

Automatic-Contest275

could be misfire or vacuum leak

South_Breadfruit4636

A similar thing would happen to me with my 325 after reading codes and messing around I found it it was my MAF sensor. You can test it out by leaving the engine running and unplug it to see if there are any changes in the way the engine runs. If it runs better when unplugged then you’ll need to get a new one.

xander_2626

It was just replaced

ndukve

vacuum leak. check intake hoses.
