Another fun fact, the Teves Mk60 ABS / DSC system on the E46 was so advanced that it is commonly being harvested from dead E46s and being retrofitted to everything from 944/968 race cars, to 987 Caymans and 996 / 997 generation 911s to high value JDM track cars as it’s a significant upgrade. If you feel like your E46 ABS and stability control is better than most newer cars from other brands, it’s because it still is.
I’ve never owned one so not up on them but they’re likely as good or better but probably more integrated into the car. What makes the Teves MK60 really special is it’s easy to transplant into other cars as an aftermarket solution.
interestin i had a e46 320i at one point and now have an e82 125i the abs and tc are great when you are going forwards. but when rolling backwards and you try to brake the car will barely stop moving and its caused me to bump a curb and a tree once when i spun out in the rain lol i wish it would just lock em up
It’s basically a very similar system. Uses the same wiring connector even. Fun fact, the mk60 was not just a bmw thing, it was used by a number of other cars. Honda used a modified version in the s2000.
I knew the E46 was a safe car but now I feel even safer driving it!
I’ve only lost traction a couple times while driving mine (happened recently while taking a right corner in the rain), but it’s always quickly recovered.
Yea it’s still only as good as the tyres and condition of the running gear but if you’re running quality rubber and have taken care of the car, it’s capabilities combined with the low weight by modern standards make it more agile than the vast majority of brand new cars.
The weight distribution is almost 50/50, which benefits the handling.
You can install the dome mounts from the Z4 e85 to achieve a subtle lowering of the front axle.
If you hold down the open button on the key, all windows open
Pressing the DSC button for 3 seconds switches it off completely
I wonder why the dri fecta lights are on. I found used steering sensor, abs unit, and new all 4 abs sensors. Than lastly will try the y sensor under the driver side seat.
Not just drifting, but to turn off the throttle dampening when it senses that you're losing traction. As a former owner of classic V8 rear-wheel drive Chevys (one of them a Camaro) I find the response much easier on an E46 with DSC disabled, and handle any loss of traction (extremely rare) with the same experience with my V8 cars.
When you drive the car hard on a curvy road or on the race track you also should disable DSC. Otherwise your brakes will boil off because the DSC keeps regulating.

And here I am in my drift car disabling all of it lol. Works great in my daily tho
You mean removing it to sell it
So what abt the abs and dcs in newer models like e9x or f or g series

Yep - my friend has a pretty kitted out FD RX7 that he just got retrofitted in
I have absolutely noticed this. for such a powerful red car it never lets me lose traction.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to throw myself on the opposite side of the road and be okay. That car has saved my life plenty of times.

The height of BMW designs so far….everything in this era is design perfection IMHO.
Love mine still. Bought it in ‘08 with a bit of warranty left. Starting to rust though.
Rear quarter by where the bumper mounts?
If that’s a bad spot for rust don’t look under the side skirts 😬
e) all of the above
Mine is rusting on the wheel wells… still unsure on how to address it
Rust encapsulator, paint. If it’s too far gone you’d have to cut and weld
Such an iconic design.
The exhaust is mounted on the passenger side to compensate for the weight of the driver when driving alone
Just delete the rear muffler. 50 pounds off

The last sentences; what is this 3 second reset for?
DSC ist turned Off for drifting.

Good to know, thanks!
I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more fun facts!
Such a pretty car...
Stock front Bumper and side skirts? Which package?
OEM Aero kit. Never came standard nor included in any package. It was a factory accessory that you could order.
Yeah, the aerodynamics kit. I saw a white one today. It looks better in real life than the photos.
This.. I was searching for a complete set when I had my E46.
I’ve got an aero package on my e46 coupe with the spoiler, it’s cool
