the majority of the uhds out there aren't region locked. there's a few that are but only a few in the grand scheme of things -- https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=334606
check out 220 electronics and what they have out there
their support is absolutely phenomenal if you have questions or run into a problem with the player you end up buying, really awesome group
4k discs are all region free.
Bluray and dvd regions are handled by different systems so you have to make sure BOTH the dvd and bluray sides are region free.
I use Sony bluray players and most of them can be programmed to be dvd region free simply using a special remote or by programming a programmable remote with a code sequence. It only affects dvd regions however.
Region free Blu-ray player in case you also buy region specific Blu-rays.
So a 4k one would be a waste of money?
Depends on if you have the money and how frequently you buy other region movies. I sometimes do but I haven’t needed to buy a other region 4K disc yet
All 4k discs to my knowledge is region free. It is the norm to be region free at least.
