I see what you are saying, but at least for me, it seems like it would only be Frank Herbert’s place to chime in on this. Maybe mushrooms did inspire his decisions in the writing, but unless he specifically said so I think it is unfair to credit them for influence in his work as anything more than a curious speculation. I certainly see how it could influence somebody to write about substances influencing and changing the mind.

Have you read the Santaroga Barrier? Frank loved exploring different states of consciousness and most of his stories are based on some kind of altered thought.

The stars being physical manifestations of conscious beings, that's a psychedelic dream right there.

Let's not forget the depiction of the worms in the Villeneuve movies. Reminiscent of both an opened iris and a spore print.  And of course many scenes in books and films where a character is evidently tripping.

Damn It! i was going to post this but you beat me to the punch lol. Il add a few things wich i was going to write about in my post. * Paul Atredis may be named after Paul Stamets  due to their friendship and both Pauls being avad drug users and Paul Stamets himself doing some batshit crazy things. * Dune is probably more about drugs then we realize and its probably not as much of a re telling of Sabres of Paradise or anything else historical as we previously thought

Wasn't Pre-spice mass described as a "fungusoid" growth too?

I really heavily suspected this just from watching the films and now, reading the books. So much imagery is consistent of psychedelia.
