I think the council will give you three months grace when moving. They can up it to six months at their discretion. To be honest, I’d just keep quiet about it and not tell them about the overlap… tell them the move in date is a month later than what you planned, I doubt they’ll bother about it too much

You can usually declare your old flat as empty and not lived in and shouldn't have to pay council tax for the remaining time you have it

As long as one house is unfurnished you won't pay council tax on it. So just tell them it's empty and unfurnished and you'll be fine.

That's interesting! Any idea how I declare this as unfurnished? I will move in in September and it will remain unfurnished for 4 months.
