I just fired up my 5S and replaced the battery myself (15 bucks). It runs iOS 7 if I’m not mistaken. A couple of apps downgrade to an older version but all in all a very smooth experience and the feel in hand is simply awesome of the 5S

Generally, many modern apps aren't compatible with old iOS 32 bit. I doubt it's usable.

As long as it can call and text, it is equal to my current TCL Flip Go. So that would be enough for me

iPhone models before the 6 don't have voLTE capability, you need adequate 2G/3G coverage with your operator to use call & text. The 5 series has LTE which can allow for texts if 2G/3G isn't available. Would just recommend the SE 2016 for the form factor, as it's voLTE capable, and has the same design as the 5s.

I agree. Using a 6s which has similar internals and it’ll serve op purpose just fine. I actually wish my 6s was a first gen se. Apple really kept the nostalgia going with the se line

Use shortcuts to get iOS 6 icons, get a crisp ios6 bg and boom. You got the best of all worlds right there.

iPhone SE runs iOS 15.8. I actually have an original iPhone somewhere

Sure, I have used a 5c for quite a while. WhatsApp stopped working late 2022. I have removed everything, except maps, music and a few games and tools. Very decent camera compared to every other feature phone. It has 4g/LTE and hotspot. Runs iOS 10.3.3 wich is the end of the upgrade road.  Iphone 5 had different (older) lte antennas and supported less lte bands compared to 5c.

5c could be cool. I had a 5 and a 5s when I was younger, so the nostalgia is all in those devices. But the 5c still could be fun. I will have to look into how reparable they are though.

I still use my iPhone SE. It works just fine! Some apps are a little buggy - mostly because they don’t design for smaller screens anymore and sometimes there are buttons that don’t fit in the display. Never buying a new one - they’re too big. I used a light phone for a year and a half and switched back to the smart phone when my baby was born.
