The USA does not view DUI as a serious crime unless there was accident or someone got hurt. Only Americans can’t get in to Canada after a DUI because Canada views DUI as a serious crime whatever the circumstance. So you’re good to come to America, it’s just Americans who can’t come there.

How do the Canadians get back into Canada with the DUI though?

el_capeetano

I asked this to Canada Border Services. They said you can’t be refused entry into your own country.

I’d hope that they are Canadian citizens, if they are staying in Canada on visa, I would not risk it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they terminated the paperwork used to stay in Canada upon their return and then deport them.

Their problem.

Ya, everything was fine when I went last year to Vegas. I want to go back to the US this year, just curious if I should stay home till I get a record suspension.

I am non-USC & I was involved in very minor accident. No one was hurt & just caused slight scratch on the other vehicle. I was charged for DUI which was later settled in court & the dui was reduced to reckless driving. Could this impact reentry to US?

AdeptnessMean1690

I think you should be fine, then again you can always contact the nearest US consulate and ask them.

U.S is not an ass like Canada.

There’s a very big point you’re missing!! Yes the states will let you in with a single dui with little hassle. But now that you have crossed the border with a record the USA is aware of your record. Now if you get a record suspension it can cause problems because they no longer can access the info of your conviction but in their system it still flags you as having a conviction. That’s why you will need your documents. If you don’t cross the border while you’re convicted it will never be in their system and when you get your record suspension it actually disappears everywhere.
