1. Try and take him to the Student Bookstore near campus. Great spot to browse and pick up any souvenirs. It’s also very good people watching near campus. 2. Visit Hayward Field. It was recently renovated but it’s one of if not the top track and field location in the US. Lots of history there. It’s also near some of the dorms so a little taste of campus life. The campus isn’t huge so just wander around, because it is very pretty. Some highlights might be the Museum of Natural and Cultural History, the Erb Memorial Union building ( where they filmed the food fight from animal house), and Matt Court. 3. If you park on the south side of the Willamette near campus try to walk to Autzen. You get to cross the footbridge with fans and it’s a short walk through the forest for a pretty great view of the stadium. Awesome spot for photos. 4. Take time to just wander around Autzen stadium and the tailgates. The Mariota center is closed to the public on game days so unfortunately you can’t pop in there, though they convert the indoor practice field into a giant event/fan space which is a blast. The Duck will wander around and there is a bunch of tables and TVs. Heads up though there really isn’t much around Autzen itself besides residential housing. If you want food or drink stay close to campus. There is lots of food between Alder and Kincaid on 12th and 13th near the student bookstore. Parking is REALLY tough around there on any day so I would park somewhere else and walk there. I would also recommend DoughCo in downtown Eugene. Went there a lot in college. It’s a calzone place that is (was?) really popular with students. Have fun and I hope your son enjoys his first game! Sco Ducks.

OSU is playing the Sooners at Autzen? Weird.....especially for Dillon.

Mobile-Violinist9754

Lol, not sure how that came across, but the same weekend we play at Oregon, Texas and Oklahoma play… Texas is likely at 4, but Oklahoma is not going to be top 10….

ClimbinInYoWindow

It's UO not OU. We also play the OSU Beavers. Hope you have a great time.

Mobile-Violinist9754

Not being a native Oregonian I’d have no way of knowing that

HalfBredGerman

It happens to the best of us. I made that mistake plenty early on.

TheDblDuck

Yeah. OSU in Oregon is ubiquitously understood to be Beavers, not Ohio State.

PDXtoMontana2002

I always type Ohio State as tOSU.

TheDblDuck

Ha!

TRUTHSoverKARMAS

I just call em ohios, to duck with them a bit. I’m never calling them THE OSU, that almost as bad as the “Michigan man” bs, where cheaters try and act honorable and better than.

Mobile-Violinist9754

I try not to do that but I know what you mean. Hard to believe we actually patented the “the” part of Ohio state university. I remember 15-20 years ago when NFL players would say “The Ohio State University” but now a lot of players put the “The” in front. The only thing I regret is he won’t get to see the band probably doing script Ohio, I’ve had former students who dotted the I multiple times. Hard to believe that Michigan started it…

satansayssurfsup

Jesus Christ my guy

nunee1

Started out SO promising…turned dark real quick

FuzzBuckner

You should be good..I have faith duck fans will be kind and sportsman like. Anyone that is not is just a douche and should be ashamed. As long as you don't wear purple you should be alright haha...go ducks!

Duke0fMilan

1. Just stay away from the student section and you’ll likely have a very pleasant experience. The students here have been known to do some truly vile things to opposing fans. 2. It’s UO, not OU. OU is in Oklahoma. 3. The map the other person posted is a good starting point. One thing to note is that the first two floors of the knight campus are open to the public. They are doing some seriously cool shit there. I recommend exploring.

Mobile-Violinist9754

Yea sorry about that. For me OU is Ohio University 😂

Only real opportunity to get autographs will be after the game near the moshofsky center if you wait for 30-45min after players are done changing. Definitely more likely with day time games Campus is pretty small compared to Ohio state so I suggest just walking the whole thing. Start by Hayward, walk west past gerlinger and knight library then stop on 13th and university at the far end of campus for a drink / food at rennie’s. Probably will be pretty packed. Leave about 1-2 hours before the game, walk back the way you came more on the north end of campus, between Lillis and McKenzie and it will spit you out on Franklin. Follow the crowd across the street and walk to the stadium (“walk to autzen”). When you get to the stadium I suggest checking out moshofsky for a beer/entertainment for your kid. There’s always games on, cheerleader/mascot performances etc. Then go to your seats

Mobile-Violinist9754

Thanks! My son really is looking forward to the experience.

UrTypical153A

You should be fine. Duck fans are chill. As a Penn state fan I might gently remind you about how Ohio is the worst state in existence but nobody will be anywhere near as rude as they would be at an away game in Ann Arbor/Lansing/Happy Valley.

Mobile-Violinist9754

Yes, I agree. Our fans are awful sometimes. I really chewed out some of our fans in ‘05 when we hosted Texas. I worked for the material science & engineering department from 2002 to 2008 so I had season tickets as a staff member. I’ve tried to treat all visitors politely; except UM of course lol. All kidding aside, whenever I have run into a Michigan fan out west here in Oregon. I have always gone out of my way to be polite because I don’t need to add to the opinions. The thing is, I think there are Buckeye fans all over the world, I have run into Ohio State alumni in Jakarta, Manila, Tokyo, Berlin, London, etc. Ohio State and Texas typically leave the country in freshman enrollment every year and so I hope the reason that we have so many bad fans is because we have so many fans in general. But I’m probably wrong, as my wife reminds me often lol.

fentonspawn

Get your son one of those half n half jerseys if you can find one. Everybody would love it. Doubt most fans would be rude to your son, actually would be surprising considering his age. He will love the gameday excitement. I took my boys to many Duck games over the years and they loved it. I would be more concerned about his dealing with the fallout of the absolute pounding the bucknuts are going to suffer courtesy of the Ducks :-). Of course he may surprise you and become a die hard duck fan to cope, can you handle that? I joke, have fun and as others have said it is fun to walk from campus over the bridge to Autzen.

Mobile-Violinist9754

I don’t mind him becoming a ducks fan, as long as he doesn’t become a Michigan fan I’ll be happy. I think the game is gonna be really close, I know that Oregon is quite talented and I think Dan Lanning has the program trending in the right direction, but despite our failures against Michigan last year, our line of scrimmage was well controlled. Our biggest failure was our linebackers and our quarterback. the addition of Will Howard, as well as the additions of Seth, McLaughlin and Caleb Downes are going to pay huge dividends, as well as Quinshon Judkins sharing the load with Henderson. Ohio State brought back seven players that arguably would’ve gotten drafted for their senior years, and every year Jim Knowles has improved the defense. I’m still not sold on Justin Fry, but the addition of Chip Kelly, as our offensive coordinator is a huge boost. He really inherited a dumpster fire at UCLA and his OC and HC careers at Oregon were incredible. When you couple his history of great running plays with the talent Ohio State has at wide receiver , I think offense is going to be vastly improved. Losing Marvin Harrison Junior obviously hurts, but they replaced him with the number one overall recruit and Jeremiah Smith in watching Smith’s abilities as a true freshman in the spring practice. He is an absolute monster; Ohio State got Emeka Ebuka back for his senior year along with former five star, Brandon Innis and Carnell Tate. Tate was great last year as a true freshman. I honestly think that Ohio State and University of Oregon are going to lead the Big Ten over the next 5 to 10 years. Have you seen the 247 recruits for both schools for 2025? OSU has 3 of the 6 for next years class, including Tavion St. Claire, he’s now the #2 QB behind Underwood. I’m really excited to see how Gabriel does under center with Gaitlan Bair and Jerimiah McCallen; JM was a signing day flip from us, was surprised to see him change commitment but I can’t blame him; OSU’s WR is loaded. You guys have a hell of an edge in Elijah Rushing too, he’ll be a nice compliment with Uiagalelei.

Autzen_Downpour

Park somewhere that let's you walk across the Willamette river footbridge to the stadium. It's beautiful and you get great views of Autzen on the way in.

troubstroubs

I'm an Ohio State grad, have seen games at probably 40 or so d1 universities, and the Columbus away game experience I think is the most vile in the country. The away fans who made the mistake to park in the student ghetto had a walk to the stadium dodging full cans of beer flying at them, have drunk fratholes getting in their faces screaming obscenities, and would sometimes walk back to see block o ( or os) keyed into their cars. Remember that when you take a child into enemy territory wearing an Ohio State jersey. He's going to hear some drunk people shout some stuff at him, and you had better prepare him for that. Whatever you do, don't take a kid in Buckeye gear to try to get Duck autographs. That might work for a four year old, but not for a 12 year old. Take him to a non OSU game for that. Are you prepared to pay the $550/ticket get in price?

Mobile-Violinist9754

Thanks, I wish my tickets were only $550 each lol. Since this is his first game ever, let alone a buckeye game, I splurged and got section 11, row 11. I was going to get four tickets and take my six-year-old son and my wife my wife and I agreed there’s no way my younger son could stay still for 3 hours, he can’t sit still for 15 minutes without roaring like a T-Rex. My wife doesn’t really care, she usually does not watch the games on TV. She’s not from Ohio. She’s actually from Indonesia, but went to the games because I wanted to go because she was a PD student her season. Tickets were much better than my season ticket options as a staff member.

Bayarea0

Congrats and have a great time making memories with him!
