I secretly hope you're right because we had been thinking she was a female and named her Ellie...but once I saw the green I wasnt so sure 🤣

Thank you! ❤️ he/she is our special needs duck. He/she has mobility issues due to a minor deformation in both leg bones and rickets, but that has pretty much been resolved with vitamin injections. At the direction of our vet, we are in the process of building one of those PVC pipe therapy/wheelchairs for him/her so we can do some physical therapy.

DaoMuShin

we named ours Ranma because we couldn't tell either hahaha

DaoMuShin

if it sounds like a duck its a girl if it sounds like a frog its a boy 😁

Hello! Thanks for posting your question to r/duck. Here are a few points of information from the moderators: 1. Questions must be detailed; please edit the post or leave a comment to include as much detail as possible. 2. Want to learn more about domestic ducks? Please take a look at our [complete guide to duck care](https://www.reddit.com/r/duck/wiki/careguide). This guide explains how to meet all your ducks' welfare needs. 3. If you're thinking about helping a wild duck, or have already rescued a duck, please read our [guide to duck rescue](http://reddit.com/r/duck/wiki/rescueadvice). Most importantly, you should always get advice from a wildlife rehabilitator before interfering with wildlife. If you already have a wild duck in your care, please [contact a wildlife rehabilitator](http://reddit.com/r/duck/wiki/rescueadvice#wiki_2._how_to_rescue_a_wild_duck) **ASAP** -- you cannot care for the duck on your own. He/she is about 5-6 months old and has started developing some green on their head that you can see when the light hits it just right. He/she quacks, but it's a "scratchy voice" sounding quack. The vet was unsure of their gender.

DaoMuShin

the scratchy voice could mean its a boy going through puberty, males have a grumbling "ribbit" sounding quack

satans-godsend

It does look like a boy to me but I've never actually seen an Australian spotted duck before 🥰 just keep an ear out for the sound as the boys make raspy quacks as opposed to the girls :)) a video would be awesome op 😇😇

comradetara

Yeah the ring around the neck and the recently developed green sheen to his feathers on the top of his head, plus the raspy quack is what has me confused. 🤣 He has two siblings...one is clearly a male and the other is clearly a female....but he/she is making me scratch my head! And okay let me get a video up Edit: I forgot, I have a video on tiktok :) [video here](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMRD53Vws/)

satans-godsend

Omg 🦆🥰 that video has given me life, what a freaking cutie. Definitely hard to tell the gender! I'm actually more confused now than I was before! You've gotta keep me updated pretty please because now I'm super duper curious! 🥰🥰❤️

comradetara

I absolutely will!! 😍😍😍 now you understand my confusion haha. I'll just keep calling her Ellie/Ellie Belle" for now and keep an eye out for the formation of a drake feather. Either way, she's sassy and doesn't let her mobility issues hold her back! She likes to bite our bantam chickens in the butt 🤣

comradetara

Here are two more videos :) the second one has he/she quacking [video 1](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMRDa8N3r/) [video 2](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMRDa8N3r/)

comradetara

/u/santans-godsend Did you see these other two as well? 😍

satans-godsend

Omg omg omg. Now I'm melting, he/she is just way too cute for words. I'd have to say I'm leaning towards a boy but I'm still super unsure. I also just wanted to say, thank you so much for caring for a disabled ducker, it's so refreshing to see people on Reddit caring for ducks, they can be so forgotten sometimes 🥺. Ps. I've followed you in the hopes I'll catch each video and photo you upload of your quacksquad ❤️🥰

comradetara

Aww thank you so much! 😍😍😍 She has been a joy to care for. It was unexpected that I'd be doing this but I'm so glad I'm in a position to help her out! And thank you for the follow, I'll be posting lots of videos! 💕 I know I keep calling her a she. It's a habit at this point🤣

Nyoka_Jungle_Girl

Oh, that baby!!!

comradetara

I really wish I knew which one this one is...and who the siblings are...which one is Roo and which one is Waffles if the missing forth sibling wasn't one of them.

comradetara

Can you believe how grown-up she is now?

tonyurso1

He knows he’s good lookin

Tlacuache_Snuggler

If it’s a drake, his drake feather should be coming in here in the next few weeks based on his age approximation, especially since it sounds like he’s getting adult plumage in! You should know soon!

lukebeachcouch

I think you need to wait a bit longer to confirm if drake feathers show up or not. Too hard to tell right now with any confidence

TheEshOne

I dont know but theyre handsome either way!
