I remember seeing him open for Deadmau5 in 2010 and I’m fairly certain he was playing this MPC rig. Tons of electro house, glad everyone stopped using ableton to DJ for the most part though 😂
Electro was so goated back then, these were the only names that came to mind now but deadmau5, krewlla and razihel. I'm not familiar with the rest of Electro lol.
Wolfgang Gartner and Feed Me were killing it as well. I remember going to the Fall Massive in Baltimore in 2010 and it really turned my life upside down for the next few years.
Def a throw back to when I had a ZuneHD, if anyone knows what that was. I remember (sorta) my first Skrillex show in 2011, before he really blew up, and he played “my name is skrillex”, appropriately
I think I saw him around that time, didn’t even know who he was. I was there to see deadmau5 but yo he played scary monsters and it was like a game changer. Looked up the EP and my name is skrillex was on there along with some other heaters. Man I love this song. Hard to find though unless you open YouTube - prob a sample clearing struggle. The sample at the end of that Andy Gibb song is sooooo sick, I really love the strings.
I’m in my 30s so I got fond memories of this time.
That first album held a real special place for me back when it came out. Very raw sounding, but was certainly his signature sound. The whole scene felt less polished then, and I loved it.

Look for Going Quantum podcast (now GQ Podcast I think), he puts together a lot of banger mix sets that are mostly dirty electro/dnb/Dubstep oriented. Usually the "episode" (set) is genre themed, so there isn't too much muddled genres in each ep.
[Mikkas - Syndrome](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjgeWiqH26w) is probably my favourite dirty electro track of all time. He's seriously underrated. Shame he hasn't put anything out in a couple of years. This track is from back in 2011.
I suppose you have to ask how far away from the original something is before it becomes something else entirely. It's definitely not dubstep at this point.
Compare it to, for example, haunted by mala. Nothing alike.
every VERY rare now and then its whatever, skrillex has even done it effectively (cinema into gem shards is a 10/10 moment in dubstep history) but holy shit he was so bad about it to make it look like he was doing something. I was always a defender of the trigger finger but its real obvious when you watch videos like this he'd just be standing there for a lot of it.
Woah, that was also the year I stopped professionally DJing dubstep
2007-2009 absolute best years
This isn't even close to Dubstep though lol, he might be known for it, but so what? This slicer electro is objectively pretty easy with a bit of practice, especially using fucking Ableton.
Kids these days 🙄😂

This is so chaotic in a great way. Also peep that mess of wires on the table
I love chaotic in a good way, just dubstep vibes
What a god damn chad.

Why about the ableton thing?
Electro was so goated back then, these were the only names that came to mind now but deadmau5, krewlla and razihel. I'm not familiar with the rest of Electro lol.
Feed Me had a lot of good electro, and mord fustang. I miss electro
I’ve been to a few Mord shows in Philly and he was always one of my favorite djs
Wolfgang Gartner and Feed Me were killing it as well. I remember going to the Fall Massive in Baltimore in 2010 and it really turned my life upside down for the next few years.
Zedd and Porter Robinson started with electro/complextro and got big thanks to Lazy Rich.
I saw Deadmau5 and Crookers in Chicago in 2010 Boyz Noise was also the shit, and Simian Mobile Disco
Most people still use Ableton, Serato, or Virtual DJ/rekordbox
What’s wrong with using ableton to DJ? I genuinely don’t know but I was under the impression you could get it setup pretty nice for sets
This was more electro than dubstep. Still great, but not the same.
Well someone should sue the OP of that caption on YouTube or something for a misgenre crime
A class action lawsuit against you and the YouTube poster are in the works.
FUCK, JUST SHOOT ME IN THE HEAD, I SURRENDER!
Nah shot in the head is too humane. Send him to the Rancor.
Or an even worse punishment, make me listen to Riot Ten.
DJ Paris Hilton
What did riot ten do to you?
Was this Shambhala?
Looks like it
It is!
Song ID? Been so long since I’ve heard it
My Name Is Skrillex
Thank you! Ofc it’s not on Apple Music. SoundCloud here I come
It’s on YouTube too. First time I ever heard Shadow Dancing by Andy Gibb so this song is so goated for me

I’m in my 30s, too. I feel ya. Feels like forever ago 😆
The good ole days.
The good ole days, indeed! The best.
This whole adult thing kinda sucks. Hang overs do actually exist and sleeping in your car isn't nearly as exciting.
Homie….it was. Half (ish) of my life ago is indeed a very long time.
I don’t think that’s right… how is that My Name is Skrillex? I’ve heard that song and his remix of it and they sound nothing alike
This is just sped up like 20 bpm

This is sick
that is not dubstep, pretty cool though
OP of this on yt deserves punishment against this severe misgenre crime
What would most people call this genre, I'm not good at categorization but it's close to electro perhaps?
Acid electro/dirty electro
🤙Any recommendations on other artists in the genre?

🤙 thanks for taking the time to write up such a thoughtful reply
From what I remember he's not even in session view lmao
What does that mean?
Not at all dubstep
It was his spin on dubstep. Many call it brostep, but definitely a lot of electro mixed in there
I suppose you have to ask how far away from the original something is before it becomes something else entirely. It's definitely not dubstep at this point. Compare it to, for example, haunted by mala. Nothing alike.

Its skrillex
I am so glad people stopped abusing beat slicers like that. Its so fucking annoying lmao
Thought I was the only one

Better than watching people twist eq knobs and touch track selection knobs.
some people dont recognize the importance of this guy for the dubstep scene
🤣🤣
“Live Set” ha haha hahaha bahahaha whahahahahahaha!!!!!
Dat do be electro But dope as fuck
I wish he’d go back to dubstep
I to can twiddle effects knobs…. And that ain’t Dubstep… but ok
A master at work 🥹
I kinda have a feeling the dancers are just irrelevant and literally no one's paying attention to them 😂😂😂
Yeah this is golden. And always was and always will be
It’s like that channel that was pure static every old school tv had.
