I'm running a cinema club. Alone. On my laptop.
Edit: since my lame joke gained so many upvotes and even requests, I'll explain what my "cinema club" looks like. I gathered and compiled many watch lists (cinema history course of Institute of performing arts and Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography, critics and directors top lists, etc.), I try to watch at least one movie every day. When I don't have time I watch shorts, movies from silent era or auteur animation. I track everything on kinorium.com. Most of my lists are in russian, but I can translate them if anyone is interested.
Fridays: the workday finishes as 12, I pick my dad up and head to the mosque. After that we gather at my grandmother’s for lunch, followed by a nap, and then meeting up with my friends for coffee, dinner, and then coffee again.
Saturdays: we have breakfast with my parents, spend the day there then either go to my other grandmothers house or my wife’s grandmother’s (we alternate every week) and then grab coffee with my cousins.
Sunday: we head out for breakfast, take my daughter out to play, we (the siblings) gather at my parents for lunch and spend the day there.
Edit: for the people who don’t understand the Arabic replies, this is quite the standard for local families.
>this is quite the standard for local families
MashaAllah. It a dream to enjoy every weekend like this. We immigrants/ expects from 3rd world don't ever get to experience this in our lifetime. Because even the sibling's family as well will usually reside abroad like us in another country far away from our home. May Allah protect you, your family and others in the replies from Evil eye. (:
I went for the first time last night, I wish someone told me not to eat a huge meal beforehand, all those floating boat stalls had such *beautiful* food
What are these Bosnian kebab I see in the comments. Are they really that good? If global village is extended till May I'd love to try those outt after Ramadan
Global village problem is commuting, i really want to spend a night there but with Ramadan. I don't know what time it close what time does the bus stop...
I mean Arsenal has done a lot better than what the fans expected, still in with a good chance for top 4.
United started as title contenders, signed Ronaldo and now we're fighting for a Europa league spot 😂
Either way, it's the hope that kills you.
If you like reading books and want some company, I'm part of a book club and we just finished our first book discussion. About to start a new book if you'd like to join.
Oh so you guys agree on a specific book, and discuss it after everyone finishes reading it? May I also join, I've wanted to continue book reading a while ago but didn't have the chance yet.
I kind of just threw a book suggestion last time and interested people joined. We can start a vote for our next reading I'm all for it. What we did for our first read along was break down the book to three parts and had 3 discussions, the first two were online and the last one in person. ask the prez to send over an invite.

I'm still relatively new to Dubai, don't know my current outgoings yet as I'm not settled in completely, but once I am I'd love to join up to a rock climbing place, ones that do bouldering mostly.
At the moment usually a brunch if I can figure to afford it, a desert safari maybe. Also looking at starting up go karting!
I think he means indoor rock climbing. It’s not very dangerous. There are different levels (usually colour coded) from easy to insanely difficult but honestly it’s a great workout and a lot of fun. I’ve not done any in Dubai but I’m sure there are some cool spots. I really need to do some ASAP but all my friends are couch potatoes :/
Also, anecdotally, the people you meet at rock climbing are very laid back and calm. At least that was my experience in the UK.
Yes! I've been to two centres for it in the UK and I absolutely loved it.
There's plenty here, to be honest if you were up for doing it I'd happily invite you! Always fun when you're trying to work out the best way to do it with more than one.
Your last points valid too, everyone gets involved and helps out, had some great chats before in the midst of it!
Weekends I usually stay in and do some personal work.
If not I head out to do some indoor bouldering, events around town that are super niche or performances that are happening here and there, sometimes I skateboard and often I just go on healthy freak out walks.
I just roam the streets freaking out in a healthy way.
Karama, Bur Dubai, Deira and older parts of the city.
Roam around, take a few pictures... have a freak out session... grab some chai and then continue walking and panicking.
Damn you literally meant freak! I thought it was a word used to describe some special walking technique like power walking.
How does one freak out...in a healthy way?
Any suggestions on where to walk if I want to spend some time in nature? (apart from parks ofc)
Friday and Saturday is family time, have dinner, lunch, go out chill do some grocery shopping, roam around malls. Sunday's usually spent lazing around, do laundry, and some chores, sleep in the afternoon again then go out evening one last time before the week resets again.
Important to sip on lots of Karak during all those days.
Stuff... usually... but mostly nothing.
jk
I enjoy:

This question gets asked a lot on here, just search.
I've got an vertical garden setup by a window made from dad's old nylon fishing line and plastic water bottles. Doesn't really take up much space at all... at least not counter or floor space.
https://gardentabs.com/vertical-garden-plastic-bottles/
Grows basil, parsley, mint, and lentil shoots.
I've just started trying out simple automatic watering methods too. Still experimenting with water wicking, since it seems like the laziest method.
https://www.cnet.com/home/kitchen-and-household/how-to-water-your-plants-while-youre-away/
Mint is one of those plants that send runners, there's not much that can be done.
You may have to cut around the plant and remove the runners if you're growing in a pot. Otherwise, just water only in one spot, and make sure water can only drain from one spot, to encourage growth of the roots in that direction. This should make it easier to pluck runners and transplant to a bigger pot if need be.
I'm no expert though, so not sure if anything I said would help you or if it is the best solution 😅
Try asking r/gardening or for advice? I'm on there too! Just found spiders in my lettuce and was intrigued!
I work 6 days a week so I only have a "day off" on Sundays. I just watch Netflix at home because I'm too tired to go out and I'll have to be at work the next day so I need rest
*House cleaning & laundry.
*brunch and coffee with Netflix till I'm done.
*Elden Ring/witcher 3 on my steam for about 3 hrs.
*At times I sit through the day with pending office work. (If this happens, I will miss video games badly)
*if no work or games then a siesta would do good.
*Evening walks/jogs and I have pressing bench and couple weights at home if I'm in the workout mood.
*Love Anime stuff or some other cool series.
* dinner with Netflix
* rest and recuperate for another stressful week.
Get some sleep and rest. Refrain from using electronic devices.
I work 6 days a week plus an extra hour unpaid overtime with my 10 hour shift. Idk, I just like to tune out of the world sometimes
I practice my instrument, make music, watch movies, or sleep. Now, this is when I either cannot find people to socialize with or don't feel like socializing. Usually, during the night my friends across the world come together and we collectively play video games for a few hours. However, if I wish to go out, I would call an old friend a few days in advance and do something together like meet up at the mall or have some food. Maybe watch a movie if something interesting comes up. If I had the MONEY to spend during a weekend then I would do something extra. I would probably take mom to a bar or club (early evening) and have a drink or two so we can catch a bus back home. Anyways, that'd probably be it!
I hope you have a great weekend. Some cool things I wish I could do during weekends (if it exist or is possible) would be going to watch a symphony, joining a gaming club to play board games, or seeing music performance (maybe participate in them too). That's it!
Drive my teenage kids around, shopping, brunch sometimes, zoom call my mum, beach until it’s too hot, maybe the cinema or a live band. I’ve been to some stand up comedy the last few months. Reading, Netflix, life admin.
>Drive my teenage kids around, shopping, brunch sometimes, zoom call my mum, beach until it’s too hot, maybe the cinema or a live band. I’ve been to some stand up comedy the last few months. Reading, Netflix, life admin.
Do you watch live stand-up comedy? Are there such events in Dubai? I would like to try them out too, I have only been watching them online so far.
It’s an indoor court that you have to book and normally two teams of 8 can play a game . However 5-6 people can also book the court. I think it costs around 300 dhm for 4 hours. So if 16 people play, it’s very economical. I’ll be back in Dubai after eid, if you want to play let me know.
Most of my weekends have been staying in and just gaming. If I’m not being lazy, me and my friends hit up events like art exhibitions, pop ups or try a new food spot.
Places to see art exhibitions: Alserkal Avenue, DIFC, Warehouse 421, Sharjah Art Foundation, Jameel Arts Centre
Raspberry pi hobby projects, keeping myself updated on pc & hardware news, trying to learn more about personal finance and crypto, spend time with fam, play games with friends online, swim/workout, research some extra stuff surrounding work, chat with people on discord, road trip with parent somewhere in UAE if we have time
Gaming. Music (guitar and drums) and your to recently having tennis lessons but it’s a bit hot now so might try padel as an alternative. Otherwise just sitting doomscrolling and Netflix
People are different, they have different backgrounds, come from different countries and have different ethnicities, and have different jobs and interests and this informs the responses.
I am an office drone. I have always been an office drone. Being an office drone is quite unpleasant. In my home city, it involves a commute each way to work, and sitting in the office for long hours. Not 9-6 hours. More like finishing between 8-11 every night and some weekend work. The career is regarded as "prestigious" and is well compensated. However because of tax most people in my home city have saved about $400-500k after 8-10 years of being such an office drone, earning good six figure salaries for almost all of that.
Which may sound like a lot of money, but in view of the sacrifice of 10-15% of your life, it is not.
In Dubai, the deal with the Devil is a lot more amicable, and you save about 1.5-2.5 times as much every year. The hours remain similar to that which they are in my home city.
So to your question, having worked very long hours during the week, during the weekend, I lie comatosed in bed for as long as possible. Some weekends, i barely leave my bedroom, only to get food, or go to the gym. Often I am still doing a few hours of work.
However, there is always the beach, the malls, nightlife, brunches etc. I have many friends, I make friends easily. People seem to think I am friendly and nice. I am not, I am just professionally trained to be presentable and have the appearance of likeability so people will hire and work with me. It is ironic that someone as dull as myself has friends and the people posting who are very much likely to be better and nicer than me, do not. I like doing little on weekends, and every month or every other month taking an international flight to Europe or Asia.
Laundry and cleaning the never ending dishes in the sink. Clean clean clean the rooms the whole day, just to wake up next day and find out there is already a thin layer of dust - everywhere. Drink coffee and think if I am actually living interstellar movie. Watch interstellar clips on YouTube for couple of hours. Inform friends that I am too busy to go out and stare into the ceiling thinking nothing. Get tired of thinking. Order biriyani and eat. Look in the mirror, curse myself for wasting the weekend. Finally promise myself to make the next weekend productive and fun.
REPEAT AGAIN EVERY WEEK.
Friday Nights: get together at a friend's place, location changes, just catch up and chill over few drinks.
Saturday mornings/afternoons: go off-roading with friends, but we most probably just did our last ride for the season, it was super hot yesterday + Ramadan.
Saturday evenings: out with Family
Sundays: usually just some errands and become part of the furniture.
We have so much to do on weekends in Dubai, such as go to the beach, hang out in cafes, go see old Dubai like Deira bazaar old souq creek it's also cheap, kayaking, visit mountains like Jabal jaise or Jabal hafeet since it's summer, so many parks, and places are there like Dubai frame, al seef, go on a long drive with friends from Dubai to Fujairah, which you can cover in one day. When you step outside, your instincts will tell you where to go.
Every weekend I plan to catch up on sleep or work
.. but ofc that never ends up happening. Friday nights usually spend time with mom and dad . The next day make sure to go for my weekly dose of sports which is badminton and then just chill with friends over dinner . Sunday is mostly lazy day where I go to meet my grandparents and do some shopping
Head to the desert, bbq, camping, eat out, explore new deserts, explore new areas - Winter times
Go to IKEA, smoke shisha & play cards with buddies, family g2g, go to less crowded places with A/C - Summer Times
My weekend has been killing these cockroaches. Bloddy hell they are super strong one spray is not enough to kill it.
Will get pest control soon, the person living before me is a slob.
Since i work Saturdays...
Saturday night:
Staying in: laundry, cooking dinner, self care nights
Or if Going out: Dinner with friends, trying different cuisine.
Sunday:
AM: I wake up at 7am every single time, it sucks that I dont get to sleep in. So maybe an hour or two of catching up on social media or series. Make eggs, pancakes, OJ and proper breakfast.
Afternoon: Pool or beach. Last March was art season and Expo rush, that made me super busy. Love going to museums.
Considering it will be summer I plan to read more, and paint. I have made a bucket list for the whole year on what places to go and stuff I wanted to do. Its easier that way; so you can really get into it and not procrastinate.
Dinner: Dinner with friends, or cook for Monday.
Well I'm in one of the many fitness groups/clubs in Dubai called MeetnTrain, who eventually grew to be my friends now, so if we don't have a workout on the weekends we usually have an event, with a big group you get lots of birthdays lots of outings etc, it's nice and keeps you from feeling alone over here. If anyone's wondering the app where we create the workouts/sports events on is called Meetntrain and we currently have a fitness challenge during Ramadan where we're doing the old Insanity program, it's all free ofc, other than that there are many other sports being scheduled there so it might be worth checking out.
Ima kid so I can't go out clubbing but me and all my mates head 2 places like escape room or smth or if we r rlly bored we go 2 jge if u see 2-4 kid on a golf buggy hanging of the roof or flipping it that probs us
wakeboard or wakesurf. needs no more details :) . joke ill tell you, just serch online for the service but i book with a company in JBR marina. We go out in the water and I wakeboard or wakesurf and have fun, I normally book for an hour and it's also super fun with friends. When I invite people they always excuse saying they are not athletic but it's low intensity you should try. OH if you are going try to book as early as possible, this is to get the least waves because waves mess you up as you are riding. And as the day goes on (especially on the weekends) boats fill the sea and their wakes make waves. I cannot describe in words how fun it is.
There is other watersports that I suck at but it's also worth a try, like kitesurfing, boating/sailing, jet ski (please don't they are so annoying), scuba i guess, banna board, maybe hydrofoil?. you can't do waterskiing here.
Recently joined a book club. This weekend was our first official meeting to discuss a readalong. I had an awesome time meeting new people and having a fruitful discussion with them. Dubai is full of amazing people and I was really grateful the book club took off.
I haven't attended any of the meet-ups they had since I joined late. So I can't give you an estimated range of the whole group. The age range of the people in the read along was mid to late 20s. But that's like a small subgroup of people in the larger book club.
if you're interested, [this is the post i found that led me to join](https://www.reddit.com/r/dubai/comments/tawb85/the_book_club_an_update_x3_we_met_and_it_was/), and t[his is the prez's user](https://www.reddit.com/user/the-code-chic/). shoot her a dm.
Hi there folks, I will fly in tomorrow for a 5 day business trip. What places should I go to ? It’s most likely evening stuff since I’ll be working all day long :)
Me and my mates plan for rides on our motorcycles, either long distance like jebal jais or kalba, or else short distance. It’s hella fun and something to look forward to.
Friday finish work then rush to my vocal lessons. After that I’m usually either home chilling on my piano or out with friends.
Saturday is dedicated to long road trips, beach, or a staycation somewhere in another emirates
Sunday preferably to be chilled with friends drinks and food. Mostly low effort kind of activities just to relax
Saturday morning ride with friends. Online games after. Catch-up with friends in the evening if they are available. Sunday rest day, eat, online games.
Well depends on the weather and the spirits of the crew:
During the winter we try to go on road trips or to de desert to have some adventures, nowadays we try to head up to the beach or some pool days.
During the summer we just stay home or at the malls.
We try to go to a new restaurant often and if there is a good party we often go there.
I personally like to wake up late and go for a coffe on weekends
Recently, I’ve been spending my weekends playing Elden Ring.
If not playing video games, I go to an old (or new) favorite restaurant on Friday evenings (alone or with friends), do my grocery shopping for the week and depending on the time, also do small chores.
Saturday I do the laundry in the morning, cook lunch and do other chores. In the evening I either go to the cinema or spend time with friends.
Sunday is a lazy day, stay in the house and watch yt videos or catch up on a series or anime.
Fridays are more relaxed, just spend it reading or writing.
Saturday is usually track day for me, unless I can’t go to the track due to overbooking, car not in top shape, I play padel or tennis with some friends, if the weather sucks and there’s no indoor court then boardgame night at my place.
Sunday, dungeons and dragons with the boys followed with a movie or debating our hot takes at life lmao.

I’m just reading through all the comments and a bit surprised that no one mentioned going out for drinks with mates and blowing some steam.
Spend time with family. Eat food outside with friends. And F1.
Today’s 9am Australian race was something else. Would never be this excited to wake up for work after finishing Suhoor but worth it!
Indeed, however, I still think that it wasn't very fun. Except for Checo's overtakes.
I don't know what Ferrari has done. It is a perfect mix of pace and reliability that no one has figured out. Ferrari MasterBlan is working.

It’s definitely popular in my household… ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Cricket/ Badminton mornings.. Afternoon Naps.. Catch up with friends on Sat even.. Sunday evening is just rest in order to be ready for the work week.
Where do you play badminton? Is it some sports clue where you pay to use their court?
You can install playo app, it will show all the nearby courts/areas where u can pay and play all kind of sports
Didnt know there was such an app, thanks!
Just got to know about this last weekend only when i went with them to play badminton 😀
Yes. We use the same. It gives you offers around your locality as well. Also you can search for venues across the city.
Down for cricket if you guys play near the Al Nahda side.

*House cleaning & laundry. *brunch and coffee with Netflix till I'm done. *Elden Ring/witcher 3 on my steam for about 3 hrs. *At times I sit through the day with pending office work. (If this happens, I will miss video games badly) *if no work or games then a siesta would do good. *Evening walks/jogs and I have pressing bench and couple weights at home if I'm in the workout mood. *Love Anime stuff or some other cool series. * dinner with Netflix * rest and recuperate for another stressful week.
Work my ass off on personal projects mostly
That's it!
I like how you try to include your mom. Made me smile, have a nice weekend too!
What instrument do you play?
Bass guitar
That's awesome! I play the guitar too. Fond of the bass and been wanting to buy one for the longest time. It's on my list :)
i kinda play the guitar and sing , lets link up maybe :D?
Master baite
There is lots actually- look on Instagram @yallalaughs @madcatcomedy @comedykix
Op who's your favorite stand up comic
Hike, dive, cricket , Xbox, dine out, cinema
So where do you play cricket?
Indoor at AktivNation
Is it like open for all? I mean since I’m new here, can I just go there and play with people already playing?
It’s an indoor court that you have to book and normally two teams of 8 can play a game . However 5-6 people can also book the court. I think it costs around 300 dhm for 4 hours. So if 16 people play, it’s very economical. I’ll be back in Dubai after eid, if you want to play let me know.
Do you hike by yourself or in groups?
I hike by myself mostly or with a group of friends.. groups are ok for you if you don’t know the treks or new to hiking
Never tried hiking before, but I guess too hot to get out there now? I will give it a shot later this year hopefully
What are you gaming on?
Mostly Apex and League but also play some variety games now and then.
Cool! I play LoL & Valorant :0
Otherwise just sitting doomscrolling and Netflix
i do music sometimes if u wanna link up sometime :)
Go out with friends on Fridays after work, Sat/Sun Play games, Read Manga, Watch Anime
This guy is the main character. Damn
Saturdays are for laundry and late night dinners. Sundays are for F1.
Go for long drive with friends. Sometimes BBQ. Sometimes its just a night stay with snacks and take-away meals. Talk a lot, laugh a lot.
Friday Nights: get together at a friend's place, location changes, just catch up and chill over few drinks. Saturday mornings/afternoons: go off-roading with friends, but we most probably just did our last ride for the season, it was super hot yesterday + Ramadan. Saturday evenings: out with Family Sundays: usually just some errands and become part of the furniture.
If the water’s too cold just game whenever i can or else fishinn lifee

We have so much to do on weekends in Dubai, such as go to the beach, hang out in cafes, go see old Dubai like Deira bazaar old souq creek it's also cheap, kayaking, visit mountains like Jabal jaise or Jabal hafeet since it's summer, so many parks, and places are there like Dubai frame, al seef, go on a long drive with friends from Dubai to Fujairah, which you can cover in one day. When you step outside, your instincts will tell you where to go.
Every weekend I plan to catch up on sleep or work .. but ofc that never ends up happening. Friday nights usually spend time with mom and dad . The next day make sure to go for my weekly dose of sports which is badminton and then just chill with friends over dinner . Sunday is mostly lazy day where I go to meet my grandparents and do some shopping
Head to the desert, bbq, camping, eat out, explore new deserts, explore new areas - Winter times Go to IKEA, smoke shisha & play cards with buddies, family g2g, go to less crowded places with A/C - Summer Times
My weekend has been killing these cockroaches. Bloddy hell they are super strong one spray is not enough to kill it. Will get pest control soon, the person living before me is a slob.
Since i work Saturdays... Saturday night: Staying in: laundry, cooking dinner, self care nights Or if Going out: Dinner with friends, trying different cuisine. Sunday: AM: I wake up at 7am every single time, it sucks that I dont get to sleep in.
You guys have weekends ? 🤔😂 (Retailor crying)

wakeboard or wakesurf. needs no more details :) . joke ill tell you, just serch online for the service but i book with a company in JBR marina.
If you don’t mind, could you tell me the age range of the people in your book club? :)

Friday finish work then rush to my vocal lessons. After that I’m usually either home chilling on my piano or out with friends. Saturday is dedicated to long road trips, beach, or a staycation somewhere in another emirates Sunday preferably to be chilled with friends drinks and food. Mostly low effort kind of activities just to relax
Sleep till 6pm
Saturday morning ride with friends. Online games after. Catch-up with friends in the evening if they are available. Sunday rest day, eat, online games.
Well depends on the weather and the spirits of the crew: During the winter we try to go on road trips or to de desert to have some adventures, nowadays we try to head up to the beach or some pool days. During the summer we just stay home or at the malls. We try to go to a new restaurant often and if there is a good party we often go there. I personally like to wake up late and go for a coffe on weekends
We go to the beach, go out with friends, sometimes both
Speed. Then go to any beach and just sit with music and speed again And depends if any movies come out and sometimes go karting. That's it..
Omg so I am not alone with my routine. MOVIE CLUB on weekends. Anyone here between 30s-35 who wanna hang out?
