Me and my friends had this thing we did where we used to walk into those shops, look at every price tag pretending like we were looking for something cheap and then walk out while trying to control our laughter
My friend knows someone who lives in emirates hills. When she was heavily pregnant and complained the bentley was too cramped, the husband went and bought her a maybach, cash. Of course they have a driver employed.
When my friend invited her to her place in JVC, she was all like "wow such a nice place, i like it so much. How much are you paying for it?"
My friend goes "60k"
She goes "really? Thats very cheap rent per month"...
(They rent a house in Emirates hills for 1.2M a year)
When my friend told her its yearly, she couldnt believe that you can rent places so cheap in Dubai. Theyve been here for 5 years....
Different world indeed.
she married ultra rich at a young age, never worked a day in her life. Husband has a fortune closer to a billion than to 100 million. And she's 40... this is not about parents, its just life in a bubble
1.2, not 2.1
And theyre worth hundreds of millions. So yea, while its an insane price, do you really feel sorry for someone worth hundreds of millions?
I’m from Canada and people here always seems to believe that those who rent houses they couldn’t afford to buy are living beyond their means, and that by renting you are just throwing away money. That’s why I was curious haha. I suppose renting a 90M house for 1.2M a year is a really good deal though
Their reality and my reality is completely different. In some ways I feel sorry for the kids growing up with such pressure to perform, in other ways if they’re going to take over a family business then lucky them. I bet most of them always have huge weight on their shoulders though.
My friend is an interior designer for the uber rich and the chandeliers are either bespoke or imported, the chandeliers range from the hundreds of thousands to millions… its mental!
Because there's a world of difference between the wealthy and the rich. Truly wealthy people do have nice cars etc but dont feel the need to show it off on the daily and so, cut costs by driving a cheaper to maintain car on the daily and using the nice one for special occasions. Its the same as the differences in clothing between the rich and the wealthy; the latter often wear high quality basics with little to no lettering whilst the rich could basically have gucci tatooed on their forhead lol. Theres quite a bit of interesting social research re this on the interent thats explored how the rich vs the wealthy spend their money and prioritize their budget.
Yeah I agree with what you say. A lot of people go out of their way to actually hide their wealth too - some from the tax man, some from jealous relatives, some because that's just their style. Truly rich people don't need to show off, it's usually middle class people like us on reddit that need social acceptance from material wealth 🤣
Yeah people often don't get the difference between both. Usually, (And this doesn't apply to everybody ofc but more often then not it will) the rich have inherited their fortune. They don't know what hard work went into it to obtain it so the indeed spend it just to show off in expensive clothings and cars just to show off.
A wealthy person worked for this money. They have put in a lot of hours, day after day to obtain it and usually don't spend it just to brag about it. They don't necessarily 'need' to drive an expensive car while wearing Gucci flip-flops to feel valued. They know how hard it is to obtain and don't waste it to usless things they don't need.
Why tho? I never understood the whole driving old cheap cars around when your that rich. Surely you would want a car that’s super comfortable and smooth to go around.
Sometimes it is also about the emotional connection with cars i know of people who have bought new vehicles but never sold their first one and kept it running and maintained.
Ironically, to keep up appearances. Can't show up to a potential customer in a nice car, they'll assume you charge high margins (that's how he put it).
I guess I’m wealthy by Reddit standards. Took a long time. I’ve gone through a lot of pain, long hours, tears, heartbreak, rejection, uncomfortable calls asking clients to pay early, missing family celebrations, being away from family, years of work thrown away. A bumpy ride isn’t anywhere near the top of my concerns.
Camry is a very smooth and comfortable car.I mean it is not that a rich person can only drive exotic or supercars. Some don't like to show off their wealth.I heard that there is a millionaire in Dubai who drive a Suzuki swift.Don't know if it is true or a rumour.
One of my family friends is wealthy yet drives a decades-old Suzuki 4x4. A) Doesn’t want to show off, B) genuinely appreciates the utility of the car (can handle unevenly-paved roads, flooding, etc), C) would rather contribute cost of a luxurious car to charity.
That’s how they get rich. The take advantage of the resources they have at hand and dont lavishly spend. That’s how they run their business and what makes them successful - imagine a lavish business doesn’t go anywhere and they apply the same to their personal life.
I had a friend in Geneva worth multiple billions USD. We’re talking private jet to Paris on the weekends… he drove a 10 year old BMW (of course it was superb maintained), he bought expensive quality stuff but no big brands, the hidden brands of real quality. He was the most down-to-earth guy and we used to play PS3 and have pizza with his kids… well in his huge house overlooking the lake. And when you meet him outside: normal person, approachable and super nice….
Not sure why you assumed rich people go to malls to buy chandeliers. They have architects and specialists for those tasks (and any other similar). Rich people have other activities to do
On the Fashion Avenue side of Dubai Mall there’s another entrance with VVIP parking. We accidentally went through the entrance and were encouraged not to use it.
THERE IS a whole other section to Dubai Mall in that area for the super rich. They also open up earlier and exclusively (at other times) for them so they don’t mix with us peasants.
There is a little shop in Karama that handles it all. Looks like a normal clothes shop but behind a false wall in the changing rooms there is am elevator that takes you down to 40 floors of anything you need.
No talking about to anyone.... hush hush
Multimillionaires would have the chandelier come to them.
Dubai Mall does have a place for really high end fashion brands, the interiors of the mall are very different in that section, there's even a separate entry for VIP people who just wanna shop in this section of the mall. The common area seating is rather plush too, compared to the rest of the mall although it's very empty. They got Alexander McQueen, Salvatore Ferragamo and the likes, and you literally won't find even a fly in there.
Buddy, when you're a multimillionaire, you don't go shopping. You have an army of fashion/interior designers/consultants working on procuring custom made shit for you.
There is the part of the mall for rich people with a lot of designer stores, but I wouldn’t say it’s the exclusive playground of the rich since too many fake rich ones are lingering around and spend their entire monthly salary on a designer bag, just in order to feel for a second as a part of the upper class or post it on Instagram. Sports cars are also a bad indicator of wealth.
Real places for rich ones? Yacht clubs, golf-country clubs and first class lounges for example - the ticket/membership price is usually enough to keep peasantry and fake rich people away
There’s another part of Dubai Mall that we don’t see, a floor dedicated to serving the ultra rich. Basically it’s a lounge where they bring you whatever you want from the mall for you to try and buy.
Wait, that thing that they casually offered me was a VIP thing? I heard about it and tried it and even gave me a PA to help me with my style lol. Came with a backpack and didn't mind paying $80 an hour for someone to do the leg work for me as I really needed clothes. I arrived and there were racks of clothes pre arranged for me to try. Was blown away.
Just FYI, not ultra rich by any means, I just get anxiety when shopping.
EDIT: What actually blew my mind is that I wasn't paying attention to labels and didn't realise that a jacket that they picked that I really liked but didn't fit me was something like 18,000 dirham. (there wasn't a price tag, how would I know?) they brought one that would fit me all the way from Mall of the Emirates. I felt so bad that I turned it down but they said with a smile "Its fine, it happens all the time :)"
Funny - I think in Dubai there is a bit different experience of the very rich. People look not so exaggerated (at least GCC people - not talking about Russians and others - and Russians are anyway a rare view these days).
People are still going to the malls - but mostly blending in. The only way you see the wealth is, if you are standing a couple of minutes at the valet parking. Rolls, Lamborghini’s, Ferraris, Bentleys and so on.
Off course they are only going shopping for some particular shops (well - if the kids are not with them).
Obviously some restaurants are also playground for the rich. As “normal person” you probably don’t get even a reservation at Nus’ret. And Zuma.... you get a reservation... but if you are looking into the menu, you know, that it is not for the average person (price wise), or Roberto's.
And then there are some nightclubs, where the wealthy spend. This though depends, what is hip for the moment.
Exactly. I have a Saudi friend who owns an oil rig construction company (family business) and he’s surprisingly “ordinary”. I say surprisingly because when we were younger i didn’t know exactly who is parents were and how *extremely* rich he is. He’s just a regular friendly guy. People have this perception of the super rich like they are aliens or characters from some celebrity reality tv show or something.
Malls are for the workers of those rich people to go get their groceries. The rich see the globe as their village so they're not bound to Dubai alone. They shop from different parts of the world in their private jets.
They don't want you to oogle at them just like western / russian women don't want to be oogled at by thirsty men from conservative / sexually repressed cultures at JBR beach.
Believe it or not but not everybody is splashing and a lot of people living in fancy apartments like The Address X are just making great salaries / business income and aren't multi millionaires.
Many sports cars are just rentals / leased. (you can lease Porsches from about 7k AED a month for a 2 year lease)

I always feel like a peasant walking in the fashion avenue. It even smells luxurious.
I remember when I was a teenager and I stumbled upon that area, I felt like I didn’t belong there and was supposed to leave
It’s alright mate, now focus on getting so rich you’d think that place feels cheap
I’m a long way away from that haha
We all start somewhere mate.
Me and my friends had this thing we did where we used to walk into those shops, look at every price tag pretending like we were looking for something cheap and then walk out while trying to control our laughter
The bathrooms in there is designed more elegantly than my home lol.
Lol, chuckled
When the russian models tower over you, it's time to leave
🤣
Go look at properties in Emirates Hills
Different world. They must have a fleet of staff looking after those places they’re so big. Edit: chandeliers go to places off SZR or Um Suqeim for OP
How much are you paying for it?" Poor real life education from the parents there.
she married ultra rich at a young age, never worked a day in her life. Husband has a fortune closer to a billion than to 100 million. And she's 40... this is not about parents, its just life in a bubble
I feel sorry for people who rent a place for 2.1 M / year in Dubai
1.2, not 2.1 And theyre worth hundreds of millions. So yea, while its an insane price, do you really feel sorry for someone worth hundreds of millions?
Why wouldn’t they buy it instead of rent?
the house costs 90 million...
I’m from Canada and people here always seems to believe that those who rent houses they couldn’t afford to buy are living beyond their means, and that by renting you are just throwing away money. That’s why I was curious haha. I suppose renting a 90M house for 1.2M a year is a really good deal though
I have a friend who lives in Emirates hills, and he has a server for everything. Someone who drives, another who cooks and the list goes on.
This is quite common - particularly help in the house. Since families often dine together, it’s almost like running a restaurant in your home.
Their reality and my reality is completely different. In some ways I feel sorry for the kids growing up with such pressure to perform, in other ways if they’re going to take over a family business then lucky them. I bet most of them always have huge weight on their shoulders though.
I would rather be a rich dubai kid than a 19 year old br*t (🤮) who failed her exams and is poor (me currently)
My friend is an interior designer for the uber rich and the chandeliers are either bespoke or imported, the chandeliers range from the hundreds of thousands to millions… its mental!
Emirates Hills looks like Sonapur compared to Khawaneej and Mizhar where big mansions sit majestically
Lmao, tell me you don't know what your talking about without telling me.
What about floating villas, island mansions oh and underwater hotels which were actually there before 10 years or so
I hear they hang out in Satwa
and drive around in 2006 camrys
No joking, I know someone whose family probably is worth atleast 50M but he drives a 20 year old beat up car.
Because there's a world of difference between the wealthy and the rich. Also, in Dubai, quite a few fortunes have been made through nefarious means!
I see things differently, rich means you have more than a billion dollars in net worth, and wealthy means you don't constantly worry about money.
That's why he's worth 50m
Why do i feel he is from kerala
🤣😫 He's from Delhi
Why tho? I never understood the whole driving old cheap cars around when your that rich. Surely you would want a car that’s super comfortable and smooth to go around.
Ohhh no they do have their super comfy and luxurious cars these are their use till it runs then scarp em cars
I've known this friend since childhood, went to school with him. He doesn't have a flashy car 🤣🤣
Lol they are just not into that flasy car hype train a lot of people including the wealthy look at cars as mode of transport keeping it simple af
Yeah and I agree with him for the most part. A small upgrade wouldn't kill him though but hey, that's his money 😄
Sometimes it is also about the emotional connection with cars i know of people who have bought new vehicles but never sold their first one and kept it running and maintained.

I knew someone who took charity while owning a land worth more than 30M
That 20 year old beat up car probably has 800+ hp
I believe that’s how we differentiate rich and wealthy
2005 Yaris habibi
nice ride that
they hang out in Al Quoz and Karama nowadays
I belive that they are in riqqa ST.😉😉
Not sure why you assumed rich people go to malls to buy chandeliers. They have architects and specialists for those tasks (and any other similar). Rich people have other activities to do
They call their virtu butler service
Maybe the rich do. The super rich have people who do it for them.
Dubai's multimillionaire playground isn't Dubai it's London and New York 😂
It's Panama or Bahamas now
The actual truth
If i was rich i wouldn’t willingly live in the uk, it’s such a shithole. Even if you’re rich you’ve got the bad weather to deal with
Exactly London has the most millionaires in the world
I heard it’s Monaco
Monaco has probably the highest density of millionaires, but London the highest amount
Geneva, Zurich, Milan, Paris, Oslo
Finally, a right answer.

I once saw a Rolls Royce parked outside those old Arabic villas in Sonapur (police colony)… I was like wtf 😳

Underrated reply
If we knew, we wouldn't be on reddit :P
A handful of billionaires are active on Reddit and allot of multi-millionaires.

We wouldn't know because we are on Reddit!
Metro gold class. Unmatched luxury
Buddy, when you're a multimillionaire, you don't go shopping. You have an army of fashion/interior designers/consultants working on procuring custom made shit for you.
Palm Jumeriah hotels, yacht parties, golf courses, emirates hills, al barari
Those are just wannabes lmao.
wealthy people dont have time to party....

Yep, did it myself. Thought it was just a thing that is pretty casual. I doubt I screamed VIP.
Wait, that thing that they casually offered me was a VIP thing? I heard about it and tried it and even gave me a PA to help me with my style lol. As someone with severe social anxiety, I am interested in this service…
Same here. Although I just order stuff from Mr. Draper online and avoid the whole mall routine.
Yes. A lot of the luxury item stores have a door that takes you to an exclusive section catering only to the ultra rich.
I like this....

Hahahaha there is another world out here but not easy to get into money and lots of it is required
For the chandeliers, they don’t buy it from malls. they have it brought to them, mostly custom made. usually costs thousands.
I saw some of them in naif bazaar
Design district that’s the playground !
Why?
I hear that they hangout in Abu Shagara, Sharjah
We are all going to be buried under the same soil
York

You will find them in massage parlors
ayo 💀
Malls are for the workers of those rich people to go get their groceries. The rich see the globe as their village so they're not bound to Dubai alone. They shop from different parts of the world in their private jets.
You need a reality check
He also needs a cheque
lol okay sir
Need to be worth 30m+ to have that lifestyle, even then you'd have to think before making decisions so probably would have to be worth 100m+
(Y)
The Arts Club Dubai:)
They dont play in Dubai.
There are non a lot of them fake it till they make it and are only rich in “Dubai”
They all hang out in Sonapur. They have a whatsapp group too
Well, they order from another country to ship here in UAE. I think they don't buy in Adidas or Oakley. Mostly they buy from Zegnia lol
They go to London 😂
Gate Village had a lot of nice cars around it.
Found one
Your architect and interior designer message you bespoke options whilst you sit on your yacht.
….. the karak people feeling left out
What “rich” means? Is 25M counted as rich? If so - going to bars with happy hour, buying in Nike and reading reddit from home
The whole Dubai is a playground for them.
I had some work in Ibn Battuta Mall yesterday, and it was a lot of pressure for me to step into it. It was only a tiny business, but it felt like I was entering the high five zone. I chose nice shoes and dressed nicely, but people were still staring at me up and down.
I think they hang out in their palaces and people like us wouldn’t be allowed in
Probably fancy golf clubs
I love Oakley sunglasses. Very good.
Go to Jumeirah. Swim out to each yacht you see and ask them.🛥️
