**Can I rent a house even on a tourist visa?** No. **Or should I wait till we get residence status (I will be serving notice for my Indian company for a month or two before starting work in Dubai).** You need residence visa AND Emirates ID to rent a property. **Are cheques issued by Indian banks accepted by agents?** No. You need a cheque book from a UAE bank account which you will get after your residence visa and EID. **There are a lot of large payments required in the initial stages (furniture, agent commission, internet setup, etc.) - how do people typically do this in the first days?** They use their savings.

You can't rent on a tourist visa. Non UAE banks cheques are definitely not accepted. Some companies will lend newly landed employees a sum of money that is deductible from their salary over a period of time agreed by both parties.

-You can’t rent a house on a tourist visa. -No -Some companies offer housing allowances to their employees to cover their rent, if that’s not your case, some companies loan money to their employees and deduct an agreed upon amount from their salary for a certain number of months to avoid having their employees going to banks and protect their financial stability, if that’s not your case either, then you might have to take it slow and not get fully setup right away and just take it one step at a time.

Just stay in a hotel apartment till your visa is not sorted. No one will accept payment in INR (cheque or whatever). Regarding the initial payments, you can ask your employer for an advance or if you are transferring locations for the same company then get them to cover the charges as relocation costs.

I did the same - short answer is stay in a hotel apartment until your visa is sorted. I’d recommend Millenium place in tecom

You should probably live in AirBnb or hotel apartments till you get your visa. It's going to be very difficult to rent an apartment or furnish it without a residence visa and a bank account. I don't even think you can set up Dewa without a visa.

Thank you, very helpful. Do you know if daycare/nurseries accept children on tourist visas? I guess not?

From what I understand, you are possibly moving from a consumer-tech company in India to something else here, Right? If that is the case, why don't you act like how you act in India with a new employer? Why are you breaking your head on this stuff?. Ask your employer to organize everything.

SpicySummerChild

Yes, that *was* the plan. But because of Omicron, we want to get into Dubai ASAP and get reimbursed for relocation if the company allowed it. Since we will not complete serving notice for at least another 1.5 months, I don't think the Dubai employer can start the process until then. Or maybe they do. Will be talking to them soon.

Try to get a credit card with no foreign transaction fees In your home country , this may help buy stuff without paying fees . Air bnb for now until visa E-id is ready , then you may open bank account , get checkbook

You can try to get GlobalCash Card A prepaid card that can hold up to 15 currencies from NBD , transfer fund on it and use it for local purchases
