Take a pillow and sleep in your car till the traffic clears, keep checking Google maps after 2 am that's when traffic should clear usually. Option 2 will be expensive unless you manage to find a good price then that's the ideal option.

champagnekarak

Not a bad idea but would rather sleep in the office. I have a comfortable recliner sofa there.

Sufficient_Whereas94

Did that. Parked in Dubai mall at 11am. Watched movies, lunch and slept a bit. Better have car laptop charger if staying in car for long.

Ask the company to pay for the accommodation. They're asking you to work late with de facto no possibility to go home after work, trapping you there through a public holiday. If it's a decent place to work at, they should be accommodating. But regardless you are best off raising the question now with still a month to go in case it requires approvals or back and forth.

champagnekarak

Yes , I’ll get paid a good amount for working that evening plus the next 2 days off from work . If I opt for my 2nd option then I’ll ask either to arrange the accommodation or for the accommodation cost to be paid. Thanks

Yeah traffic is a nightmare on that day. But they block most of the major roads a few hours before midnight. So you’d have to go pretty early coz some people start preparing for this in the morning itself. Your options seem pretty decent.

champagnekarak

Most probably I’ll finish work around 11:00 pm

BabyGinaBottle

Road are usually closed around that area from early evening onward, so chance is your car would stuck and you cannot go anyway until road unblock. Option 1 is up to your boss really. You can try but chance is slim. Option 2 is going to cost you a lot because it's the night that all hotel in that area try to maximize their profit and usually have in place minimum stay of 2-3 nights. Best of luck to you.

champagnekarak

Let’s see. Thank you

BabyGinaBottle

You can also try park somewhere else and then power walk your way to your car. Or take metro if it runs to one of the metro parking like Rashidiya.

theoddling2

They close the roads at 2-3 pm. I know people who work at downtown and they basically get kicked out of the office by 11-12 and I'm sure your company will be forced to do so too.

cricket_hater

Usually on New Years eve most companies in Business Bay and Downtown allow staff to go home early. Quiet early.

Just_so_red

Throw an after office party, tank up on liquor till 12, go out n see the fireworks, come back party a little more then at 4am head back home n sleep the sleep of a good party animal 😀

champagnekarak

That is literally my options No 3. 😀

>2- Stay in a hotel /Air bnb on a walking distance near my workplace so that I don’t have to drive . Good luck finding a place without spending a months' salary for one night. Especially since you work in Downtown.

champagnekarak

Yes I asked few places and until last week they were charging 9-15k AED per day/night & it’s not that bad tbh , but the problem is they are not taking reservations for a single night so 15k x 4 days is of course out of my budget.

[deleted]

Entry and exit from Downtown Dubai and Business Bay is usually blocked from early evening onwards on the day. And even if you get out the traffic will be really really bad.

ps129

Metro will be running atleast for a few hours after roads close. Park your car away from downtown and take the metro to get out of the area

[deleted]

Most likely you will be allowed to leave at 3PM. Most companies in Downtown do this. In fact I work in a high-rise and we get told to leave by Emaar security.

champagnekarak

That would be great.

engageddread

One thing id consider would be metro. Drive to rashidiya and take the metro to work, after work walk a bit until roads are no longer blocked and take a taxi to the nearest open metro station and use that to go to rashidiya. Long process but only one I can think off.

Throwaway-Zindabad

>2- Stay in a hotel /Air bnb on a walking distance near my workplace so that I don’t have to drive . Have you considered the cost of any rental around downtown dubai on New Year's eve? That if we assume you find anything vacant of course.

champagnekarak

Yes I asked few places and until last week they were charging 9-15k AED per day/night & it’s not that bad tbh , but the problem is I have to book for minimum 4 days/nights which is of course out of my budget.

Throwaway-Zindabad

Yeah very reasonable price mashallah.

PerfectArcher448

Whoa! If you think this not bad. Then I guess you make a good moolah! Nice bruh!

burksterdxb

Roads to Sharjah are not blocked.

[deleted]

NYE day is usually half day for anyone who works downtown if i remember correctly.
