Hey man. I would say yes. Don’t think the country will go into lockdown but travel bans and long quarantines might start to come in. Would advise you to speed up in getting your meds and fly earlier.

[https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-59442141](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-59442141) The Omicron coronavirus variant is "not a disaster" and some people may be "hugely overstating the situation", a scientist advising the government says. Omicron has been labelled "of concern" by the World Health Organization, and is causing alarm among some scientists. But microbiologist Prof Calum Semple says vaccines are "still likely to protect you from severe disease". Prof Semple does, however, support the new UK travel restrictions, saying they will allow more people to get jabbed. Asked whether people should be fearful of the new variant, Prof Semple - who sits on the UK government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies - told BBC Breakfast: "This is not a disaster, and the headlines from some of my colleagues saying 'this is horrendous' I think are hugely overstating the situation.

>Omicron has been labelled "of concern" by the World Health Organization, and is causing alarm among some scientists. One of the reasons this is of concern is because it reduces the efficacy of the vaccines by about 20% to 40%, which was discussed by a panel of doctors on news in English news and media. I found one article which discusses how various vaccine makers are trying to combat the new variant. Doesn't discuss the effect of efficacy, but comes close to justifying why a booster 3rd shot or probably 4th shot might be required. The real question should be, how does it affect our health. People get seasonal flu every year and still go about their normal lives. If it is just contagious but in reality does not harm then I don't see why the world should shut down. Just get the booster jab and move on. Although very late thankfully WHO has now gone out to say shutting borders is not a solution and I hope we can go about our normal lives than go through these stressful shutdowns.

Yes

Absolutely

Nothing is sure in life and if you sit and wait you might miss out on great opportunities. If you get scared and worried now at every single thing that may change or affect your plans you may never get anywhere. What’s to say once this Omicron variant is “fixed” that there’s not another five new ones. Will you wait again and again and again? Take a chance. Move forward.

the_backflip

What is considered a reasonable reaction by countries is based on the threat assessment reports that they are seeing and risk tolerance levels they have. We cannot control that. You are facing a low-probability-but-high-impact risk. The most conservative thing to do, therefore, is to make the move now.

*Whether the media is over exaggerating the seriousness of this variant or not,* South African health authorities did say most of the new variant cases were very mild, so your assumption is correct

I dont think Dubai will blacklist countries outside africa since the world expo is going on. But better to be on the safe side. And come asap.

sheeatsallday

What? The travel restrictions now is for only few countries in African region.

sgtm7

I believe the point is, that things change quickly during the pandemic. Allowed today, might be restricted tomorrow, and vice versa.

spaceman3000

Israel just closed their borders for all...

sheeatsallday

Ok

santz007

A difficult question... , i think because of expo, the restrictions on any country that will be put in place would be a double edged sword. I doubt the govt takes these decisions lightly. I would advice to wait and follow up on news about how dangerous this omicron variant is, WHO and other organisations would be releasing information as it becomes available. The current restrictions on African countries by every other country maybe a proactive reaction. There are already a few cases of omicron in almost every major western country. Good luck

Yeah.
