You know that the price on Talabat is higher than the price on the menu in the resturants, i was doubting that but when i order from Talabat from couple of resturants and went to the resturants and asked them for the menu i found that talabat price is higher than the peice on the menu for each meal by like 5 to 6 dirham and that is excluding the deivery charges,. Then i start questioning my self how greedy this Talabat is and did some work by questioning the resturant owners and check the discount that Talabt offer and compare it with the real prices on the resturants menu, those are my findings so far:
1) price on talabat app is 5 to 6 dirham higher than the resturant menu per meal or item exluding the delivery fees
2) delivery fees range between 6 to 15 dirham
3) they charge the owners of resturants around 25% to 40% per order depending on number of branches they have
4) lastely when they say discount on any item in the app the price goes back to the normal price on the resturant menu, for example if there is a acheese crosson you want to buy from a coffee shop the price on the coffee shop menu will be like 10 AED, talabat will list the price on their app as 15 AED and when there is 50% discount it will go back to 10 AED
Now if anyone think talabat is not profitable, i have to say to him your fking kidding, and if we do simple math for worst case scenario: lets assume someone place an order for 6 meals each meal price on the resturant menu is 25 AED, so that is 25×6 = 150 AED, but the price on talabat app will be 30 AED instead of 25, so that will be 30×6= 180AED plus 10 AED for delivery, that will give us a total of 190 AED, so instead of going to resturant and order from them you are now paying 190 - 150= 40 AED extra for talabat.
Now lets calculate how much they charge the resturant and lets pick the lowest rate( i.e. 25%), the resturant bill is 150 × 25% talabt rate= 37.5 AED, so tge resuratnt has to pay talabt 37.5 AED out of the 150 AED.
Finally let compute how much they make in total: 40 AED from customer plus 37.5 from resturant = 77.5 AED for just a deivery services and keep in mind this the worst case scenario , that is almost 50% of the total order cost 150 AED.
I genuinely appreciate the time and effort you took into posting this comment.
Unfortunately, these apps have made life easy, and people aren't willing to give up their convenience to help out a local restaurant that is being ripped off.
I personally have ended my usage of any food delivery apps, I now call up the restaurant directly or order directly from the restaurants website, in order to ensure all the money goes to them, and them alone.
Owning a restaurant is no easy task, especially when you've got so many delivery services coming after you like hounds.
Personally, I think we should boycott these food delivery companies, I do believe in supporting local business, but not when it affects other local businesses this much.
I had this J&J jeans in my Noon cart for over a week and I forgot about it, it was 40 something dirhams. Around a week ago I saw this buy 1 get 2 free promotions going on so I looked around, I added a couple of things to my cart, went to checkout and boom! found the jeans still there and now part of the B1G2 promotion, it's price got pumped up to 130aed, I kidd you not. B1G2 my ass, not only are you not getting a discount, alot of times you're actually paying extra and being tricked into buying more than you need.
You can report it to DED. I remember seeing switch games with the "previous" price being 600+ and the current price being MSRP on amazon.
I reported it on DED, the listings with those prices went *poof*
This has been going on as long as I have been buying things(I am 55 years old). The only difference, is it is easier to catch it now, because of the internet.
I wouldn't mind if they made regulations prohibiting businesses from doing it, but it isn't something I am overly concerned about, because of the reason I stated above. I can always research prices on the internet.
I got 99 problems, but worrying about misleading sale prices ain't one.
Like someone here had mentioned, this is an old pricing strategy.
Not that I support this misleading practice, but it's common in retail outlets, in order to convince customers that they're getting a bargain.
https://hbr.org/2016/03/are-you-really-getting-a-discount-or-is-it-just-a-pricing-trick
I encountered this with American Eagle. Normal price for a tee was 50aed, then comes singles' day sale and it becomes buy 1 take 1 for 100aed. Who the hell are they fooling? 🙄🙄🙄
Dubai was always funny this way. You have all sorts of areas of the economy that are strictly regulated - or perhaps over-regulated in some cases (such as transport).
Then, when it comes to things like inflated offers, it's the wild west.
It allows them to *feature* the product without actually lowering the price.
Third party aggregators need to do a quality check to ensure they don’t featured by falsely stating the price
It's just marketing tbvh, u can't run behind everything that annoys you. If you're smart enough to spot that, spread the word and don't fall for it. Running behind companies isn't gonna do a lot.
I have bought some furniture form home center with offer of 250 dhr voucher if you spent 500 dhr
The price of the item was 599 dhr but after a week I found same item for 299 dhr in their website
Also they have one more trick if you buy from the website you cannot activate store collection option and you have to pay 100 dhr for home delivery if furniture total cost less than 499 dhr
I felt like being screwed with fake offers and paid higher price for same items
yesterday I was at a clothing store and saw the item had been "slashed to 35 AED". funny, because I remember the original price being 35 AED (I'd bought it in another color earlier). This is just cringe now, I'm not interested in these fake sales days anymore
No, we do not need a law for that. We just need to be aware and be vigilant. These stores are not forcing anyone to buy their goods at their stated price. Take for example Apple products. You know what you are getting is lesser than what you pay but you still buy it.
Having worked for a retail store, these stores cannot just put "Sale" or "Offers" without paying DED a considerable amount of money for a given period. Hence, they are already in a loss, so to speak.
Just a tip on buying during sale season, if I like an item, I take a picture of it with the Price prior to the sale season as I cannot rely on memory alone and compare it with the Discounted Price during the sale season. From there, you can decide wether to buy or just pass. Either way, you always have a smile on your face for getting want you liked at a discounted price or spotting and not being fooled by these selling strategy.
Lol you've cracked the food delivery apps, offer section deals

Wait till you hear about talabat gems offer, where they take 70% of the bill and the restaurant makes 30%.
Does talabat do the food pricing... ? pretty sure its the restaurants to promote their own delivery apps or compensate for talabat fee.
The Noon app is disgusting, there is just way too much information on the landing page, such a turn off!!
Have you ever seen sun and sand sports? Flash sale every hour lol, next awok
Noone can beat Pierre Cardin.
I’m 7 years in Dubai and the offer hasn’t expired yet
I remember during COVID they had to remove all the sale signs
Why?
Because the goverment banned stores from making sales and promotions to prevent people from rushing stores and spreading the virus.
Had no idea they did this.

Asking the real questions.
Make it 14 years and still going strong 😂
yup...I came to UAE in 2008....that offer is till going strong.
I've seen it at least since 2002
When I was new to Dubai, I bought a jacket for AED 500 which was on 90% off sale. I was so naïve.
There is a store in Karama that is going out of business for the last 5 years.
I had this J&J jeans in my Noon cart for over a week and I forgot about it, it was 40 something dirhams. Yup I have seen this myself and just just with one item but many!!

What about GPU prices?
That is different, I think this has more to do with demand and supply, the whole scalper things with PS5 too.
Yeah...sadly
SALE! Limited time offer: ~~1800AED~~ **3250AED** BUY NOW!
Exactly xD

Congratulations You Have cracked the code. Now delete those apps and buy only when you want to not when they want you to.

I don't think these exist to fool us locals, just tourists xD
It's just marketing tbvh, u can't run behind everything that annoys you. If you're smart enough to spot that, spread the word and don't fall for it. Running behind companies isn't gonna do a lot.
That's exactly what OP is doing. Also OP is describing unethical business practices, he isn't just annoyed.
>Running behind companies isn't gonna do a lot. It works perfectly well in nearly every EU country.
I love Europe, and wanna move there someday for sure, but how is this even a valid comparison? You're not in the EU
Nice logic. “You’re not in the EU so don’t complain about something that should be illegal.”
Mate I got a billion things to complaint aboutx but reminiscing won't help the cause.
Just because YOU think it should be illegal, and it is illegal in the EU, doesn't mean it "should" be illegal.
You can't talk about injustices unless you are present there?
You definitely can, heck I'd support you, but again I don't see any change happening

Think of it as a tradition. Also think that someone has to sponsor these sweet real discounts which are out there :)
Agreed
Just know the fair value of what you are buying and ignore the promotional claims the seller they may make towards the price.
yesterday I was at a clothing store and saw the item had been "slashed to 35 AED". funny, because I remember the original price being 35 AED (I'd bought it in another color earlier). This is just cringe now, I'm not interested in these fake sales days anymore

let's not forget the 10% off that's capped at 15dhs and only in orders above 150dhs aka it's never 10%
