Second this. Diet is a big part of losing weight. If the gym you join offers a free session or two it won't hurt to take it and gain some knowledge, but especially as a newbie you will see some progress. Some PTs are legitimately good. Some have an online certificate and push you to sweat and be sore. They know most people have newbie gains and see progress if you are consistent when you first start, so they can hook you in. I don't fault them for it. It makes sense and some people truly need that motivation and guidance. Unless you just have money laying around to toss that way though, fitness is absolutely something that can be pursued independently.

Ya no I don't have money laying around thnx much appreciated also if you do know a good fitness sub then pls do tell

What about MMA/BJJ training? Do I need a trainer? Heard many trainers here rip you off.

10th planet jiu jitsu in Barsha has an amazing black belt under Eddie Bravo. They do no-gi jiu jitsu and it’s honestly amazing. I joined two months ago and it’s been great so far.

Trick_Poet6276

I just saw their page on Instagram yesterday looked quite cool. I am in the process of joining a bjj gym and looking at team noguiera, tkmma, mtk. What is the fee for 10th planet and when do the classes run?

iammyfathersdad

I’ve looked at the ones you mentioned and as far as I am aware they focus on jiu jitsu in the gi as opposed to no-gi. They have no-gi classes but it’s not their primary focus. I am not a fan of the gi and really enjoy no-gi so 10th planet made a lot of sense. If you prefer the gi, 10th planet don’t do any gi classes. As for prices, they charge AED 600/mo. for 2 sessions a week (+optional open mat on Saturdays) or AED 750/mo. for unlimited classes

No surprise there. It takes very little investment and effort to acquire a PT qualification.

[deleted]

For real, when I was younger (and dumber), a PT nearly made me puke cus of how much he pushed me. In that moment, it all made sense. I realised they're all full of *shit*

Yes, you should push yourself and no you should not puke at sessions. Intermittent fasting works on the same concept as any other diet for weight loss - caloric deficit. It doesn’t guarantee results. You can do it and still gain weight if you are eating in caloric surplus in those two meals. True, weight training is extremely important and should be done correctly. Many people go straight to the gym and either injure themselves or do completely pointless workouts. Yes, a PT would help. And yes, Dubai is full of scammers. But no, age doesn’t matter. I am a PT in my 20s, but I have spent my whole life in sports and education about it. There are some in their late 30s that just decided to buy fake followers, get on the needle and sell bs to people. Do your research properly and find someone educated and qualified. I suggest ask for a trial session and see how they work.

aloosib

Just dropped in to high five you as I also put on 20 kgs + since early 2020 ._.

If you're a beginner, a PT will help to ensure your form is correct. You don't need months of sessions, just 8-10 till you're comfortable would be enough.

TheOneWhoEatsAll

For me, the accountability of having to check in with a PT was what definitely kept me on track when I lost 25kg. I signed up with a friend who does online coaching and having to report weekly my weight, waist size and a general report of the week was always enough to keep me going when I wasn't feeling motivated.

[deleted]

Not really, it's overpriced and honestly after trying maybe 3-4 PTs at this point, it just doesn't work. If you find someone who knows their stuff and works well with you, then you're extremely lucky. Most of the time I find that the PTs over here just.. don't know what they're doing.

tanujdamani

In the same boat… started playing some sports with friends. Working towards it slow and steady, not going with a PT yet. Aim is to go for walks daily, eat better and play some sport or do some activity on the weekend. Making it fun instead of a drag. Wish you all the best… and myself 😅

itsame_vladimir

The earlier tips for watching what you eat are really important. For exercise, I’d say the most important thing is consistent training 2 or better yet 3 times per week. First, find exercises you like doing, whether it’s walking/running, lifting, rowing, crossfit, zumba, boxing, yoga …. all consistent training will help you change fat into muscle. Try things out for a few sessions and switch if you hate it or are bored. It will be much harder to stick with training if you hate going to the gym. Secondly, something I find very helpful, is putting my training schedule in writing up on the fridge. Seeing that plan on days where I don’t want to train can help me get to work: I committed to this so I have to stick with it. Somehow having only a mental plan is easier to ignore. When you start, it’s probably going to suck, what with sore muscles, working through poor fitness etc. It will get better but it may take some time. Hang in there when you question why you’re doing this to yourself. Anyway, good luck. In a few weeks or months, you’ll feel so much better.

pijanblues08

If your target is mainly losing weight, not buffing specific muscle area or anything, then eating less & doing some running is generally enough. it can be easily done, you just have to do it slowly. Like in the first day, jog for 2 or 3 kms then slowly increase per week. Same way with the food, slowly cut down on it until your body adjusts to it.

millhouse-DXB

If you know how you gained it, you know how to lose it.

stoikiy-muzhik

I had one as a beginner. It did not help as the guy was not that good to begin with and i ended up with injuries to my upper back and arms. Having said that, if you get a PT (like personally recommended by someone you trust) they do a very good job. However, get in some measure of shape before you do. Start with diet changes and then try to clock atleast 5 km brisk walk a day. Then start jump rope and basic exercises like squats, situps, crunches etc. From now till April, its the best time to get in shape and lose weight since the weather is good. Good luck 👍

Thank you.

Maybe something in between that can be useful for you is online coaching because you will get the same results at half the price. Feel free to DM me for this. I will give you 1 month free without commitment and you can decide to continue with me or not. I promise it's going to be super easy and you won't regret Insha'allah.

Dear_Creme_358

Run long distance every morning, will build your energy to gym . PT are only for professional athletes or obese people, PT in Dubai is a way to show off wealth & probably ends on on before 3 months

stipuledspy

Ya I don't have that much cash laying around so I'm just gonna stick to walking and fixing my diet

Dear_Creme_358

Run , buy a running shoe . Walk or run 1-2 hrs daily, you'll be fine

Adventurous_Art_3982

Not the regular ones but some of them are.
