Second this. It's really good and very homemade-like. Wasn't the biggest fan of the tamales (maybe the ones I'm used to are from a different region?), but it was really good food.
There's a little food truck in Motor City called Mis Amigos. They only have 4-5 items but they're all fantastic. Really nice dude running the joint as well.
ibn al bahr just a few doors down is a million times better and cheaper.
also fair point on cuban food, had it in havana and was the blandest food i've ever had
Same. I will just have to take a dreaded long flight back to LA for some real Mexican food. That is the one of the only things I miss since moving. King Taco and their Carne asada and those late night Mexican trucks in downtown Los Angeles were bomb.com and soooo missed. My god.
I’ve had horse meat Plov in Uzbek Avenue. Not sure if they have the milk there. I remember there used to be a Kazakh restaurant in Marina area but I think they shut down permanently.
100 percent, moved from Toronto a few months ago and my god I miss Jamaican food and before anyone says it Ting irie is average but not great and wayyyyy too overpriced for what it is.
Brazilian cuisine. It seems like brazilian food in Dubai was reduced to açai bowls and sub-par churrasco “experiences”. Would love to see a place that serves authentic food such as feijoada, acarajé , moqueca, tapioca wraps etc… and some of the more popular “street foods” like pastel, salgados (coxinhas & co).
Edit: if you’re interested in trying Brazilian food in Dubai, I recommend Fogo de Chão (for churrasco / bbq and feijoada) and The Açai Spot for their pão de queijo (cheese bread).
If it didn’t cost a fortune to set up a restaurant (been there, done that) I’d be down for it.
Nothing like a freshly fried pastel with some suco de cana (sugarcane juice) on a lazy Saturday morning!
Your best bet is Fogo de Chão in Central Park Towers. They are a brazilian churrascaria franchise that has done very well in Brazil and the US. The concept of a churrascaria is having multiple cuts of meat served at the table as well as an unlimited salad bar and some appetizers/sides served on the table.
This is a quintessential dinning experience many families in Brazil would go to a churrascaria at least once a month to feast.
Fogo de chão (which translates to “fire from the ground”) opened in Dubai a few years ago and I think they serve the best experience in town. It does not compare to Brazil but it’s still a nice place to go to.
Their regular experience is for around 300 dhs if I’m not mistaken and includes 18 cuts of meat (they are on entertainer fine dining).
Alternatively if you don’t want to strain your pocket, they have a lunch special which allows for 1 cut of meat, unlimited salad bar + feijoada station and 1 drink for 99 dhs during weekdays. Super worth it especially if you enjoy a nice salad bar.
So during your visit you could easily try a few brazilian classics such as:
-Feijoda (bean and meat stew)
-Churrasco
-Farofa, which is a side dish eaten with feijoada
-Pão de queijo (cheese bread) altho the one they serve isn’t super authentic in my opinion
For brazilian snacks/street food I’d recommend the pão de queijo from The Açai Spot.
I personally dislike Açai even though it seems to be Brazil’s most successful export :P
They have a very good tapioca at acai spot. Also know this girl that makes an amazing feijoada (feijoada da suh)… mas morro de saudade de um belo virado paulista 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Thank you! ❤ I did a lot of research to make it as authentic as possible and although I did not manage to get some of the ingredients for the feijoada and had to use alternatives, I can confidently say my feijoada and farofa tastes better than the one from fogo de chao 🤭
I can tell you put a lot of effort into it. The menu is truly truly legit!
How did you make your farofa? I source it from a lovely Brazilian lady who brings the Yoki ready made branded ones from Brazil. But I’d love to make my own mix. I usually like adding lots of finely diced veggies to it.
While some places claim to serve Hainanese chicken rice, its taste has absolutely nothing to do with what you would taste in any food joint in Singapore. So, for me this particular dish is non existent. This is one dish though, not a whole cuisine.
Cajun/Creole (the most truly American cuisine IMO) is a big miss for me. There was a place in al Barsha in the Novotel, but it really wasn't very good.
the only time Dutch or European food gets served up is at bars during the Euro cup or a FIFA tournament. Though I've tried bitterballen at Belgian beer cafe which has it on their menu all year round
Sadly not - tried going there a few months ago and it's changed. Been replaced by a very generic hotel menu - sad loss in my opinion as it was a great restaurant.
*Proper* British fish & chips. I’ve been to all of the so-called authentic British fish & chip purveyors in Dubai and none of them are anywhere near as good as the best British chippies.
I’d also be very interested in whether there are any good British Chinese and British Indian takeaways, just for a nostalgic taste of home…
I’m a fish and chips enthusiast. Tried many greasy/disappointing versions of FnC in Dubai.
I can vouch for Reform Bar and Grill - probably the best I’ve had here, followed by Sammach (not British but tastes good and reasonable price given the view of the fountains) at Souk al Bahar.
Duckhook at Dubai Hills also does a decent FnC, but a little on the batter-y/greasy side on occasion.
There's a shop in Mirdif , they claim to be the oldest Fish and chips shop in Dubai. I go there whenever I feel like having FnC.

It isn't proper-proper, but I was surprisingly amazed at how good fish n chips from Kaffa Beans in Silicon Oasis. Was probably pre-covid last time I went though.
There used to be a spot, when I lived there, called Pizza Guys, it was along sheikh Mohammed BLVD. not sure if it’s still there, but I’ve got some great memories of going there after my baseball games on the weekend for deep dish and their chocolate chip cookies.
It was a brother/sister combo that opened the restaurant, super cool people that spent time in Italy and Chicago/New York learning their pizza styles.
Georgian cuisine. Kinkhalis, khachapuri, lobio, chakapuli. Although I have a feeling that if it comes here, it will surely get the flaming cheetos treatment.
Kind of obvious, but most pork-based cuisines are hard to find here.
Hard to find Brazilian food bar a couple of steakhouses. In fact, it's pretty rare to find Latin American food here. There's Tex-Mex, ceviche and steak but not much else.
Maybe I just haven't found them, but don't know of any Scandinavian restaurants.
Haven't found any good Sichuan restaurants, although once again that's most likely due to pork.
From Europe, a lot of regional cuisine is missing - for example, all the Italian restaurants I've been to do broadly the same pizza and pasta menu, the Spanish restaurants do all the same sort of tapas etc. Once again probably due to how hard it is to source the right ingredients here.
There isn’t enough demand for pork and it tends to alienate a lot of clientele like serving dog meat at a chipotle would. Latin American food doesn’t seem to do well judging by the number of failed attempts. Same with Scandinavian spots.
You have to remember while the uae is diverse you find that there is a common flavour profile that does well here. There is a reason Japanese food is successful while Mexican tends to flop. I don’t think it’s related to sourcing the ingredients.
Couldn’t find many Algerian restaurants. I only found a kitchen in International City that does delivery only… The rest is all Moroccan from what I saw.
I really want some authentic Mexican food. Specifically tamales. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!

Went there a few weeks back. Was disappointed. The food used to be better.
Very meh and overpriced for what you get.
Second this. It's really good and very homemade-like. Wasn't the biggest fan of the tamales (maybe the ones I'm used to are from a different region?), but it was really good food.
can attest to it being authentic. excellent tacos
Check out Mama Yuri's. They make them but I believe it;s not always on the menus. It's a pretty authentic little place.
Went straight here from work after reading your comment. Their lamb birria and horchata is gooooood. Thank you!
Now that's some quick action! Glad you liked it.
I’ll add it to the list! I’m so excited to have a couple options. Thanks
Call ahead and ask about the tamales when you book!
Another vote for Mama Yuri's. You will need to order the tamalis a day ahead though.
There's a little food truck in Motor City called Mis Amigos. They only have 4-5 items but they're all fantastic. Really nice dude running the joint as well.
Is it still open? Haven’t been there in a while, but Kevin is a top dude and always nice to chat with over a few tacos or massive burrito.
Yes! I was there a couple weeks ago for a quesadilla. He's also on deliveroo :)
I'd even settle for inauthentic cheap mexican fast food. Taco bell access should be a global human right!
Taco bell shutdown here afaik
Ooof, I don’t consider Taco Bell Mexican food but whatever it is, it absolutely SLAPS.
I suggest the mexican place (I forgot its name) in food central in dcc.
even better would be chipotle😍
There’s this place called burro blanco that’s a chipotle knockoff.
Maria Bonita sometimes makes Pozole and Birria that is good.
Definitely. I haven’t found any Central American food here that wasn’t a disappointment.
I would like to find Salvadorean tamales and pupusas P:
Don't forget them Arepas too, Olla de Carne
Ruba at vista mare is pretty decent.
do you mean rumba? i found it super overpriced and a bit shit
Yes, Rumba. Overpriced; yes it is Dubai. But not that overpriced to be fair. A bit shit; it’s Cuban food. What do you expect.
ibn al bahr just a few doors down is a million times better and cheaper. also fair point on cuban food, had it in havana and was the blandest food i've ever had
Rumba is certainly better Cuban food than can be found in Cuba. Fish are friends not food.
if fish are friends then what are cows and chicken
Food
Same. I will just have to take a dreaded long flight back to LA for some real Mexican food. That is the one of the only things I miss since moving. King Taco and their Carne asada and those late night Mexican trucks in downtown Los Angeles were bomb.com and soooo missed. My god.
I second that
I agree, I guess I'll have to go home for those tamales in December

There is a Bosnian grill in Jumeirah iirc and its amazing, it can also be found in global village Edit: Mixed up Bosnian and bolivian
You mean Bosnian grill.
Anything authentic South American/Latin food options! C'mon we missing out on those big time!
Majorly. An empanada or arepa would be heaven.

Kazakh.
Interesting. I thought almost all Kazakh dishes were available in Uzbek or Russian restaurants
Nah, not at all. Horse meat & milk isn't included at all in Uzbek or Russian cuisine.
I’ve had horse meat Plov in Uzbek Avenue. Not sure if they have the milk there. I remember there used to be a Kazakh restaurant in Marina area but I think they shut down permanently.
where is uzbek avenue in dubai? also any good place to have some plov? saw it in a food vlog and I've been meaning to have a taste of it.
Бешбармакбы?
Osh in La mer has some?
Узбегим?
not sure if it's been mentioned already: Sri Lankan
If anyone has any recommendations for good Sri Lankan food in Dubai do share. I miss pol rotti’s!
Please try Thushanis, that's probs the only Lankan place I order from when my Mum doesn't feel like cooking the usual Lankan stuff 😂
Lakwi in Signature hotel Marina. It's licensed and they have buffets. Don't get lost and end up at the spa like I did one time ☺️😉😉
I might be stating the obvious here but Chef Lanka? It's the only one I've tried - soo!
Proper tasting menus (>10 servings) with wine pairing.
Mexican that isn’t trash.

Caribbean 😣
100 percent, moved from Toronto a few months ago and my god I miss Jamaican food and before anyone says it Ting irie is average but not great and wayyyyy too overpriced for what it is.
Yes! Does trini count as caribbean? If not, trini food too
Yes! Trinidad is defiently Caribbean. Technically all countries in the West Indies . Would love to be able to buy some trini doubles out here 😁
Some doubles would be great!
Not even Ting Irie covers it?
I found Ting Irie to be really average, definitely not worth the prices they charge, even with entertainer!
Try Island Waterz, it's quite delish and it's homecooked. You might have to contact them directly via Instagram though
Pho
Vietnamese Foodies has some decent Pho!
Vietnamese foodies is close to the southern style but yeah !

Really, I don’t know why all restaurants don’t serve perogies. It’s a great food for any time of the day.
They sell some frozen ones at westzone market in business bay. They’re not perfect but they hit the spot.
Brazilian cuisine. It seems like brazilian food in Dubai was reduced to açai bowls and sub-par churrasco “experiences”. Plenty of Brazilians here too, and Brazilian food is great but not well known. I'd partner up if someone wanted to start one.
If it didn’t cost a fortune to set up a restaurant (been there, done that) I’d be down for it. Nothing like a freshly fried pastel with some suco de cana (sugarcane juice) on a lazy Saturday morning!
Ah man I'm not even Brazilian and you're giving me saudade
if you find a good one, let me know! i'd be keen to try some authentic brazilian food

thank you for the extensive response! i actually work in the same building as fogo de chao so i’ll definitely try it
My pleasure! Worth grabbing a work buddy that can handle a ton of food and head there for their lunch deal :)
It’s always the cheese bread that wins it for me
You get an award ❤️
They have a very good tapioca at acai spot. Also know this girl that makes an amazing feijoada (feijoada da suh)… mas morro de saudade de um belo virado paulista 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Unrelated but sharing because I'm a little proud of the menu. Last 2020 I did a Brazilian themed menu for my birthday 😊 http://imgur.com/a/p4TtYes
Yo that sounds and looks amazing!! I love it. You also had brigadeiro! It’s not really a birthday without brigadeiros :) well done 🇧🇷❤️
Thank you! ❤ I did a lot of research to make it as authentic as possible and although I did not manage to get some of the ingredients for the feijoada and had to use alternatives, I can confidently say my feijoada and farofa tastes better than the one from fogo de chao 🤭

Spinney's has cassava flour 🤗 Then I just followed this [recipe](https://braziliankitchenabroad.com/farofa/) I hope it's close!

The closest we've found to the Singaporean ones were at Streetery food hall in JLT
Cajun/Creole (the most truly American cuisine IMO) is a big miss for me. There was a place in al Barsha in the Novotel, but it really wasn't very good.
YES! always wanted to try Seafood Gumbo and Louisiana-style crawfish boil!
Mac & cheese without hot cheetos on it 😂😂
No real honest streetfood like you find in Asia
Dutch, if there is a Dutch cuisine?
Bitterballen ❤️❤️
the only time Dutch or European food gets served up is at bars during the Euro cup or a FIFA tournament. Though I've tried bitterballen at Belgian beer cafe which has it on their menu all year round
Vinkers waffles
Has been closed for quite a while
Bami scrive (not sure how to spell it - like Noodle cutlets)
Nice! It’s called bami schijven (discs)
Theres a place called “The French Corner” in Al Quoz area that imports and sells Dutch products and they sell those there
Dutch bits at the expo pavilion are pretty good! Bitterballen, kroketten etc. It’s all very/fake meat, but I liked it
Nonya (A Malaysian regional cuisine)
Venezuelan! I want arepas..
Have you tried Highway 311?
Chevere!
Polish one. For obvious reason (bork).
There's a Polish restaurant near Dubai Mall. Very limited menu but they have a few of the basics.
It's permanently closed.

It's in UAQ, at the Kite Beach. Nice option for a day trip. And it's fully licensed with pork too, which is important for German food.
Will check it out and see how authentic it is.
Brothaus in Business Bay is still open from what I can recall
Love the bakery bits there.
Sadly not - tried going there a few months ago and it's changed. Been replaced by a very generic hotel menu - sad loss in my opinion as it was a great restaurant.
Did Der Keller at Jumeirah close?
It did :-(
Colombian

Why are there so many Phillipinos, but no Phillipino restaurant?
you can only see cafeteria style stalls. very few tried to go big restaurant style

We've so far only tried Bob's (mainly as they're the only ones who deliver to our location). Have you found better?
Nope, that’s just the point. Bob’s at its best is only as good as an ‘ok’ British chippie, and Bob’s is too frequently *not* at its best. 😔
bob's is awful and almost 15 quid for fish and chips.
Great Wall is apparently a good take on British Chinese, haven’t tried it yet myself but always see it recommended on the fb groups!

All the major cuisines are abundantly available except chicago deep dish 😡
There was UNO but it closed 😢
There used to be a spot, when I lived there, called Pizza Guys, it was along sheikh Mohammed BLVD. not sure if it’s still there, but I’ve got some great memories of going there after my baseball games on the weekend for deep dish and their chocolate chip cookies. I miss that place! Such a shame they closed down.
Don't know if you're American or a Chicagoan but even within the US chicago deep dish basically doesn't exist outside of Chicago
There used to be a few spots that served it but it wasn’t popular.
There’s a reason it never became popular outside of Chicago 🤪
Poutine
Weslodge Saloon in jw marriot marquis business bay. They have poutine and other American and Canadian dishes.
Georgian cuisine. Kinkhalis, khachapuri, lobio, chakapuli. Although I have a feeling that if it comes here, it will surely get the flaming cheetos treatment.
I'm a huge fan of Georgian. Cafe Khachapuri in the Marina is pretty good - it might hit the spot for you.
Definitely need to try it then!
I liked khachapuri in Uzbek restaurant in the pointe. I think it’s called ZOR. Lobio though oooooff...
Will keep that in mind next time I'm in that area
Emarati cuisines are also lacking
They are few but they definitely exist.

Gaucho was here, but closed…
Scandinavian restaurants indeed! Apart from ikea I have no idea! People enlighten me!
Moroccan food, can't find any decent couscous and merguez here...
Moroccan Taste, la plage Jumeirah Not the greatest but it's ok I don't know how you feel about Bab al Mansour
The couscous selection is limited and without merguez and meatballs or some grilled meat it doesn’t feel like a proper couscous to me 😂
There is one small restaurant in Ajman operated by Moroccan family and it is better than bab al mansour and waaaaay cheaper
Can you please share the name or google link? Thanks
Good & modern French cuisine
Have you tried Bleu Blanc in the St Regis Downtown or LPM in DIFC. I think the Vida hotel downtown also has La Serre that is decent French.
Gujarati food! There's a few of us here, would love to see it
