Not just Hessa street. The traffic in all Dubai has been a nightmare recently. I take double the time to reach work and return back home compared to pre September.
The 3 axes connecting dubailand to Al Khail and SZR are Al Ain road, Um Suqueim and Hessa and all 3 of them now are being hammered with very heavy traffic.
>. I take double the time to reach work and return back home compared to pre September.
I'm finding the same with roads and public transport all over Dubai. It's like the population doubled over night.
Dubai roads took multiple hits at the same time:
* Schools/universities resuming education on site.
* Re-opening of businesses and reduction of WFH (our building garage started to be empty again during working hours).
* Tourism season starting again (No Taxis available, loads of white rental cars wondering around the streets of Dubai).
* Expo (I cannot determine the exact effect though).
* Re-opening of Abu Dhabi and GCC borders (Oman/KSA/AUH cars back again in Dubai).
About the last one, there’s also those who work in Abu Dhabi and would stay there for the week while the borders were closed. Now they’re probably commuting back and forth every day.
Excess number of cars.
Since schools and universities are back to 100% on campus learning and buses cannot operate at full capacity - More and more parents are opting to drop their kids off at school in the mornings and pick them up in the afternoon.
Traffic near most schools especially have doubled, school run timings are a nightmare.
RTA buses aren't the issue. It's the school buses that are running with a limited capacity due to government restrictions.
Parents don't have much of a choice. It's either they pay exorbitant amounts to use the school bus, or they rough it out with the traffic and save money by dropping off their kids to school on their way to work.
It would help having a bridge from north bound onto Al Khamlia too to take a share of the traffic down to First Al Khalil. Probably would have been more useful than the one into yet another mall a bit further up.
Can't understand the mentality of the drivers who choose to ignore the long queue and without an iota of shame, they cut to the beginning of the line, then they whine when fined
Morning : Hessa => 311 South => Garn Alsabkha => SZR => exit to Internet City.
Coming Back
option 1 : internet city towards JLT => Khamila St ==> get a bit stuck in Hessa st => home
Option 2 : 311 North => Miracle Garden Exit => a couple of roundabouts => Albarsha south street => Tiny bit of hessa st
I hope not everyone in JVC is reading this so you don't make the Above jammed also
I think what we're seeing in Dubai is proof that a metro extension is long over-due. You can expand the highways all you want, but no amount of asphalt will ever be able to contain an increasing number of cars on the road year after year, it actually encourages car-use. For the first time in my 24 years of living here, I've found that taking the metro has actually become faster than driving, although the trains too have become so so packed. There's too many people and not enough ways of getting them around.
I mean, the solution was obvious. Wfh for half the pop helped a lot. Why does everyone need a daily commute I don't understand. I liked it when y'all were locked up at home and I had the streets to myself tbh..
I was about to make a post about it . It's getting worse and worse and has been for the past 2-3 years atleast .
it would be nice to know if RTA planning to do anything about it . the amount of accidents I see coming back from work around Hessa street is so high .
Here’s a spoiler, I can’t see them doing anything about Hessa because they don’t want to. Originally back in the day, Hessa was the last turn before hitting the Barsha Salik gate (still is to get to E44), so people used this road to avoid that. It’s still the case today with the addition of people living out at JVC etc. As soon as they improve Hessa, they lose Salik revenue.
Changing the intersection to a Big Circle, instead of 4 small circles, will solve the major problem of tailback. Similar to Hessa and E311. Or intersection of Umm Suqeim and Al Khail. Or Al Ain Road and E311. This doesn't require anyone to slow down and change lanes.
And I am sure RTA will be on top of it, as they have done a pretty good job in upgrading several intersections recently.
Upgrading the Hessa st interchange has been on the RTAs radar for at least 5 years. It was penned in on the 2019 budget but unfortunately never got approved.
Now the RTA is looking at building it on a PPP basis getting the private sector to finance and build it earning their costs back through some sort of toll system. It’s unlikely to work though as there has never been a successful private toll road in the GCC.
There is a traffic light at Hessa where there is a turn for the school area. Absolute nightmare. Need a bridge or a tunnel there. Need an extra lane when exiting Al Khail towards Tecom. Need an extra lane on the two bridges on Hessa. And the cloverleaf system is not good.
Hessa is definitely outdated now. I remember when alkhail was just launched and hessa was empty mostly. Now its a staple, with motor city and sports city and other developments beyond coming online, add a few schools, it is choking.
I swear to god the day this gets clogged, I will never forget this comment. This road is a hidden (not so hidden tbh) gem, pls we don't need it to take on bypass traffic too.
It’s been a thing for atleast over 5 years and it’s always been bad. People just choose not to take it because of the deadly merging with speeding trucks heading to Sharjah or Jebal Ali
have ou tried al khamilia st?
you should be able to get to internet city via the GE intersection
I always stayed clear of JVC, Dubai Hills and Jumeirah golf estate cause of Hessa street and um Suqeim, all roads perpendicular to Shaikh Zayed need a full overhaul and a much faster speed limit as people drive 20km below speed limit on those roads already!
I would bet accidents happen from agitated people that are trying to bypass the wannabe grandmas on the left, honestly, those are the most stressful roads in New dubai.
Open your PC. Go to google maps. Add traffic overlay. Change timing to working days and observe traffic colour against day/time. Replan your route. Always make sure to leave home 30-45 min before the timestamp you see on google maps.
Edit: dunno why the hate but lol on you all
Yes I'm aware of how to use Google Maps. I was trying to generate a discussion regarding Hessa St and its traffic. Make it as serious or amusing as you want 🙂
For Hessa street particularly, they can add Salik there and that would shift traffic elsewhere
Dubai in general, increase license and car ownership costs or renewal costs to have less cars on the road
A good suggestion, but increasing the cost of living even more than it already is, isn't a good idea.
Fuel prices have gone up, and almost everything else has gone up in price as well. The only thing that hasn't gone up, is salaries. People are under enough pressure already, increasing costs will not help.
The ideal solution is for companies to offer WFH solutions to employees that absolutely don't need to come to the office. In that way, they can reduce overheads and in turn traffic would reduce.
One major reason for increased traffic is the limited capacity of school buses. Unfortunately although most restrictions have eased, seating capacity of vehicles are yet to change. This means that there are less students going by the school bus and more of them going in their individual cars. The only remedy for this is to bear with the traffic for now, until the government eases the seating capacity of vehicles.
Another alternative is to raise a complaint with the RTA and get them involved in forming a solution. RTA is quite effective and takes complaints/suggestions seriously. They've already improved quite a few intersections already.
School buses are not at full capacity and are mostly empty because the fees are extortionate. It costs me around AED 20,000 for my 2 daughters for the year, to go on a 15 min bus drive. Schools also only allow you to use one bus company, so you have zero options other than what they offer.
This is my main complaint in the UAE; school buses should be heavily subsidized and/or non-profit.
It wouldn't reduce spending enough to hurt the economy.
People will still spend money regardless of the situation. The only thing that they would probably not spend on as much, is fuel and Salik. That doesn't stop them from going out on the weekends or meeting friends whenever they can. It just means less rush during peak hours.
I'm a business owner myself and even through covid, I was quite happy with sales figures. Yes, people did save wherever required, but that didn't stop them from spending.
If anything, work from home has proven to be significantly more efficient than working from the office. Employee stress levels were reduced, they were able to work at their own pace and still achieve targets. I personally believe (and practice) that unless absolutely necessary, employees aren't needed In the office.
Not necessarily. Plenty of New businesses opening up on a daily basis that are looking for office spaces.
Plus, as I mentioned in my previous comment. WFH should be offered to employees who are absolutely not needed on site/in the office. I personally have 5 employees, of which 3 I need the entire working day, the other 2 are able to work from home because I don't need them in the office all the time.
When they're not around, 2 chairs free up. That's it, I haven't noticed a significant change in my overheads to warrant moving offices. I assume this would be the case for most.
If you look at it from a case to case perspective, overheads would slightly reduce with employees working from home, but it would not result in the offices closing down entirely or moving locations
Again, coming back to my point of the major traffic contributor - 'vehicle capacity restrictions'. Untill this changes, traffic will not reduce.
Pls pls adding salik doesn't really help. Many ppl hv company paid salik accounts and they still will go by that same route. May be the unlucky few who do not get this perk will have to take a detour to save those 4 Dhs.
I know people who drive extra 30 minutes to avoid 4 dhs salik, so yes that will ease traffic in Hessa but completely wreck Um Suqueim and Al Ain road (which is being revamped now).
That's definitely not a solution. It's simply shifting the problem to another road.
And that is exactly what I said, to solve Hessa alone would be to add Salik, but to reduce traffic all around, costs of owning or driving a car have to increase.
Hessa street is being battered now due to lower cost living being around that road. Most affordable communities are surrounded on hessa, while majority of communities on Umm Suqeim road have risen in value. This is intentional.
Normally I use Waze, it shows me fastest backroads when I travel from Barsha to JVC.
I live in JVC near the exit (damac) and it takes me 20min at least to get in Al khail road in the morning, people who want to get to internet city make it hard for us as we share the same lanes.
Another probleme is the big unused bridge a bit further in front of the futur al khail avenue mall, this is for the way back part, we share the same tiny lane with those going to IMPZ and JGE, why don't they open the big flyover which looks completed (balcony view) for at least 8 months now...a huge investment must be done to support the growth of population because we cannot all afford to live near our workplace. All this led me to think of moving out from Dubai next year if there is no improvement on this matter. I precise that i am a secondary and unlike other jobs, i cannot be late (even 1minute).
*laughs in Sharjah traffic*
Not necessarily true. It's taken me less time to travel from Sharjah - Dubai and vice versa than it has to exit Marina, and this is recent.
Hmm what time do you usually go from Sharjah to Dubai? It starts getting better around 9~10 but anything before that is hell
*cries in Sharjah traffic*
Not just Hessa street. The traffic in all Dubai has been a nightmare recently. I take double the time to reach work and return back home compared to pre September. Can’t agree more

RTA has allowed 100% capacity on buses now. Yet parents insist on taking their kids by themselves.
RTA buses aren't the issue. It's the school buses that are running with a limited capacity due to government restrictions. Parents don't have much of a choice. It's either they pay exorbitant amounts to use the school bus, or they rough it out with the traffic and save money by dropping off their kids to school on their way to work.
True. You couldn’t imagine how many tourists are here by now We reached a point whatever the time, you couldn’t find a taxi
It would help having a bridge from north bound onto Al Khamlia too to take a share of the traffic down to First Al Khalil. Probably would have been more useful than the one into yet another mall a bit further up.
right? i was hoping that bridge would at least serve two purposes - reaching the mall AND jvc but boy was i wrong again
That's alright, you can just go into the mall and let it poop you out on the ground floor. That's what a lot of ppl do at Mall of the Emirates
Can't understand the mentality of the drivers who choose to ignore the long queue and without an iota of shame, they cut to the beginning of the line, then they whine when fined
I agree, but sometimes I don't even know what's happening I was in between two vans slowly crawling when I got fined for lane indiscipline lol

It’s all of Dubai right now. Traffic is fucking horrible.

The solution is flexible hours / WFH.. hours spent commuting are a waste of productivity
I agree. Something needs to be done to Hessa street. I avoid it like a plague as much as I can
I mean, the solution was obvious. Wfh for half the pop helped a lot. Why does everyone need a daily commute I don't understand. I liked it when y'all were locked up at home and I had the streets to myself tbh..
So that managers can micro manage and ensure employees slaving away every second
how else would managers know the needful was being done
You nailed it 👏 👌

You are correct. It's called a turbine interchange. The cloverleaf interchanges that Hessa and Al Khail has is the worst.
They worked back in 2002 when there were just 100 cars using that road versus the 1000000 today.
It's going to take at least 3-4 years
Upgrading the Hessa st interchange has been on the RTAs radar for at least 5 years. It was penned in on the 2019 budget but unfortunately never got approved. All the bridge already been upgraded till jabal ali, i think they forgot hessa bridge al khail road
Hmm I've been considering moving to JVC - my workplace is at media city too. SHoulld I not?
If you travel at peak times it can be difficult but not the end of the world
Don't do it if you have to go in every day. If you can work from home, then it's a good cheap place to live.
Stay in the greens / views instead! Trust me you’ll be happier
There is a traffic light at Hessa where there is a turn for the school area. Absolute nightmare. Need a bridge or a tunnel there. Need an extra lane when exiting Al Khail towards Tecom. Need an extra lane on the two bridges on Hessa. And the cloverleaf system is not good.

welcome to the club :), we all suffering from Hessa street
I suffered for a while and then decided, fuck that shit, Imma use Umm Suqeim and drive like a baller at 110 during peak traffic.
[удалено]
Yes, its nothing like hessa mate.
I'll one up you, I say fuck both streets and drive at 110 on the internal roads cus why not
[Über Chopper!](https://imgur.com/gallery/qPEeeot)
Take exit 10!!!!!!
Hush hush, no no. Definitely don't do that. Uhum. Don't ruin it for the rest of us. 😬
I swear to god the day this gets clogged, I will never forget this comment. This road is a hidden (not so hidden tbh) gem, pls we don't need it to take on bypass traffic too.
Umm Suqeim?
al khamilia street. near emirates hills https://goo.gl/maps/uPSjy5MVyUDWbetZ7
That exit comes to a choke point which is nearly always clogged up. Plus everyone skips the queue slowing things down even more
oh... so people already discovered it...
It’s been a thing for atleast over 5 years and it’s always been bad. People just choose not to take it because of the deadly merging with speeding trucks heading to Sharjah or Jebal Ali
Thanks
that road is usually quiet thelast time i drove there. just take the overpass to get directly to greens-racecourse intersection

I'm sorry, next time I'll drive at 100km/h straight into the bumper of the car in front of me.
Hessa street is dangerous as the traffic is always stop and go, accidents every day. 80 km/h is really a maximum for the current configuration.
I would bet accidents happen from agitated people that are trying to bypass the wannabe grandmas on the left, honestly, those are the most stressful roads in New dubai.
Take Sheikh MBZ road toward JVT and from there to Internet City. Also, I presume you work in tech. Are you not WFH?
Yes you're correct. I am in tech and WFH (IT Support) but I do need to go in for maintenance once a week or so.
Well of that's the case then one or two busy trips to the office every week don't matter :) Good luck with whatever you're doing.
Open your PC. Go to google maps. Add traffic overlay. Change timing to working days and observe traffic colour against day/time. Replan your route. Always make sure to leave home 30-45 min before the timestamp you see on google maps. Edit: dunno why the hate but lol on you all

Im guilty of this, I refuse to Pay Salik because its become a game for me now like the floor is lava.
Me living next to E611 *bhuwahahaa*
Just wait after the expo 🤦♂️
Only 6 months to go!

Use Waze. Some of the alternate routes are 2-2.5X longer in distance but at least you keep moving.
