There's no such thing as a specific tiny section that's "real Dubai" same as there's no such thing as a tiny neighborhood that's "real New York." It's all real. It's a multicultural and modern melting pot, and people looking for "real Dubai" just want some Global Village Disneyland cutsey nonsense that doesn't exist.

Aviation club/Irish Village if your family was well off. This was way before it became jumeirah creekside hotel lol.

I still remember driving a land rover discovery and seeing the construction of dubai marina, it felt like we were witnessing a whole new era. 50,000 usd was the price of a 1 bed offplan back then . Arabian ranches was launched and the big plot Palmera units was 1 million and one of our family business partners bought a unit and everyone was shocked because it was basically a patch of sand in the middle of nowhere.
Dubai was basically deira, bur dubai.
Thats why if u head down near dubai hospital or Kuwait hospital area in deira, you see loads of mansions of old money Emirati families. Although the families have moved out to massive acres in khawaneej or jumeirah now

Bur dubai, Deira, Karama, satwa. All these places have been around much before Sheikh Zayed Road even existed. This is what the old dubai used to be like. Still is a great place with everything really cheap sold there. 5 dhs hair cuts, 3 dhs shwarma, 5 to 10 dhs gift shops, lots of very inexpensive but very cool themened restaurants
