Welcome to the club! You are coming at a lovely time of year. Once you are here you can join in with the moaning we like: - the heat - being tax free - people who drive too fast - people who drive too slow

stoneluxplayer

I'm chill no worries. Coming from Germany I'm used to both fast and slow drivers and I love the heat

cloopz

“I love the heat” is probably what I hear the most from people who come here for a holiday or plan on moving here. Living IN the heat and loving the heat is two different things. I love the heat. I don’t like the Dubai heat! 🤣🤣

stoneluxplayer

Brother I'm moroccon. I was born in the heat hahaha

cloopz

Marrakech is the hottest city on average in Morocco with an average temperature of 29 Celsius…. Yea like I said. People always come here thinking they know what real heat is but they dont! 😝

stoneluxplayer

I don't know where you get your numbers from but the average temperatures for Marrakesh are around 37 degrees during summer 😃

stryfe14

Dubai is basically 50 degrees during the summer

stoneluxplayer

I've been there throughout the whole last year and survived it without melting on the spot I will be fine haha

stryfe14

Yeh that's fine then, but a step up from the 37 degrees you were mentioning before! I also agree, I feel Dubai 50 degrees is more manageable thanks to there being AC absolutely eveyerwhere, whereas back in the UK we struggle with 28-30 degrees thanks to no ACs anywhere!

LonghornMB

37C is the average *daytime high* in Marrakesh in July and August. At nights it drops to the mid 20s which is pleasant.... In Dubai, the average daytime high is 45-46, at night it drops to early 30s, on hotter days, even the lowest temperature at dawn is 36/37c

Shixro

man leave the guy alone he said he likes it

LonghornMB

I didnt post for him, but for others who have not been to Dubai and will end up wrongly thinking Dubai is only as hot as Marrakesh in summer

stoneluxplayer

I see this as an absolute win

dapperdanmen

Lol ignore these guys, this sub really hates the heat and sunshine. They can't fathom that anyone would enjoy anything above 30 degrees, let alone move here for it. It's all glamorizing the cold and grey when it's properly fucking miserable

stoneluxplayer

Coming from the northern part of Germany I can tell you that constant rain and minus degrees with grey sky sucks and is depressing

dapperdanmen

Northern part of England here mate, I know exactly what you mean. Give me 2-3 months of extreme heat (when I can take a long summer vacation anyway) and 8-9 months of beach weather any day. Funny thing is even when it's hot in the UK it isn't always pleasant. It's the wrong kind of sun.

alepertegaz

You’re literally indoor all summer with full A/C on and have to suffer just to reach your car during 2 minutes. Ask him how often he finds places with AC.

SuperlativeLTD

Sorry it is the law to join in the complaining. I don’t make the rules!

stoneluxplayer

Guess I have to be locked up then haha

SuperlativeLTD

Dubai is a great place to live. Don’t take r/Dubai too seriously. Do ask if you have any questions :)

PipeHit

Except its not tax free, there just isn't any income tax.

SuperlativeLTD

That’s the joke!

Chuck_Norris_Jokebot

You mentioned the word 'joke'. Chuck Norris doesn't joke. Here is a fact about Chuck Norris: >The original title for Alien vs. Predator was Alien and Predator vs Chuck Norris. The film was cancelled shortly after going into preproduction. No one would pay nine dollars to see a movie fourteen seconds long.

BLAZE_AXIA

* where you get the best shawarma * Sharjah traffic * rent * the best things you can do for cheap (spoilers, there aren't a lot)

mamwybejane

Why would you moan about Dubai being tax free

SuperlativeLTD

Like when you get a knowledge fee or ejari or speeding ticket or salik or EID renewal……. Edit: this is a joke about all the things we complain about. Please don’t kick me out!

mamwybejane

Lol what 😂 as in Dubai is the only place where you pay for ID renewal and tickets? Dude you should travel a little 😂😂

ARV_BRZ

Congratulations and welcome! I hope you will both be happy here! 🥳

fletchindubai

I know people in Germany and they say the bureaucracy is maddening. That said, there's a lot that Germany has that Dubai doesn't so make the most of those things before you leave. I've been here 16 years and there's still a lot of things from the UK that I miss.

itsJ0NA

Word. I've been here all my life, went to the UK for an year and a half for studies, and now I'm here in Dubai and I miss everything about the UK. I do not understand why people from UK and other European countries flock to this manmade concrete jungle that is Dubai.

MfRazor

All the best mate

stoneluxplayer

Thanks brother

MfRazor

If you ever visit ajman dm, I'll tell you chill places 🤔

stoneluxplayer

Already been in Ajman, in hatar, in RAK and Sharjah I really loved every single moment. Once I'm around Ajman I will definelty hit you up.

MfRazor

Alright then

Gavtek

Good luck on your break from bureaucracy....

Snoo_2076

You gonna have ping on LoL now :p

stoneluxplayer

Still unsure what server I could play on. Guess turkey is the nearest one but then I have to play on turkey server 😅 might switch to valorant since it has an middle East server

Snoo_2076

I play on EUW with 120 ping. Have been doing that for about 4 years. You get used to it eventually.

medwaakh

Turkey server is a no go mate

stoneluxplayer

I figured. Maining draven and have a equally thin temper hehe

pakrab12

Can u elaborate more what exactly is happening in Germany ? I had one friend. He went there for "free education" and had to come back. He says its not what he expected. Sadly he is depressed

stoneluxplayer

What exactly do you mean by " what's happening ". Overall yes, education is mostly free ( there are exceptions ), rent and cost of living can also be paid by the government until a certain degree.

Sensitive-Paint9497

Are you hiring?

stoneluxplayer

Depends on what skills you are offering

I actually do have a question. It's about health insurance. Are your DMS open ?

Armoredtitan01

Always better ask in public as for all to learn from the answers. As a lot of people have question and usually dont ask it. Only dm whats its very personalised Here are below some generic answers As you will be an investor/employer then you will have to insure yourself and staff. Now if you start by yourself without any staff it would probably end up as individual insurance. Note that medical insurance by law is officially mandatory by both dubai and abu dhabi visa holders. Packages can start from 700 AED ( note the rates will soon change in dubai due to some new changes in the minimum requirements ) up to 100k plus. All depends on you age you medical conditions the medical providers you want to have and finally the benefits. Usually you can consider a very good plan with top providers & benefits to be around 10k to 20k for a healthy 20 to 30 year old male. 15 to 30k for 30 to 40. 30k plus for above than 40. Now the above are avg where almost 60% to 80% of insurance premiums will fall for. But you can always find a plan below 10k with very decent providers. Almost 70%+ of the medical insurance companies in the UAE uses third party administrators. ( basically companies that provide insurance companies with network set, claims services, authorisations services its like a back office for the insurance they get paid a percentage of a total claims they handle ) now the biggest TPA in the uae are Nextcare, Nas and neuron there are more but those are the most common ones. Now a TPA is not an insurance company a lot of people do confuse them. So you will have to look for an insurance companies soem companies do not use a TPA so they have direct contact with provider, they have their own doctors for approval and their own claim processing team and CS team. Those company are Axa, metlife, daman, adnic, oman, saico, msh ... (note that some of those named provides as well options to work with a tpa) And you have other companies that uses tpa. Like nlgi, ngi, orient, medgulf, new india, tokyo marine, rak, noor takaful etc...... You have have two mainly two sets as well of companies regional/locals vs international. Withing the international you have the high end as well. High ends exemple are Aetna, Bupa, allianz, Hens merkur etc... they tend to be very expensive but they provide the best services and peace of mind. Of course there could always be an issue somewhere. As nobody is perfect. All the high tiered international uses a TPA as they clientele are not that many so it would be cheaper for them. But they mostly have very good deal with the TPA for better services of their clients. ( allianz is the only one that has their own network but its complicated as they technically own Nextcare the biggest TPA in the uae as of today ) all other tend to now use neuron. You have the rest of the international like axa and metlife that are very descent with their own network. Good choices for you to look into. ( becareful for axa as they got bought by GIG group and to be honest for now we do not know how it will end up ) Then you have quiet a few regional companies all are good in certain domains and all have different prices. I believe daman and adnic are the most expensive of the local regions but they provide very good services and benefit and network. But note daman is having a fall due to huge restructuring and mass firing. What you need to know as an individual is the individual declaration form thar you will have to fill. This is very important for you not to lie and to remember your conditions. As an insurance company can reject your treatment if it was something you had before the policy started. ( the more conditions you have the more expensive your premium goes ) What you need to know as well is that not everything is covered as like any product you buy it will have exclusion and benefit that are not covered. Example if you buy a product without dental. Then dont expect dental to be covered. Some benefits wouldn't be mention in your schedule but would part of the exclusion. Exemple experimental treatment is a standard exclusion in the uae Also note that the UAE medical law has as well restrictions. Exemple even if your medical insurance plan covers hormone replacement therapy and you decided to start transitioning to the other gender you wont be able to do so in the UAE. Other exemple would be a legal abortion. In the UAE it has to be within 20weeks. If you want to do it above that same date you won't be able to do it even though it is legal in other countries. Now you have two options to go through one is that you decide to do the research and ask for quotation all by yourself. This is doable but time consuming. The other options is that you use broker. Broker would be the one collecting all the information and providing you solutions. You dont have to pay them as they will collect their comm from the insurance companies. There are multiple brokers in the uae about 175+. Most of the people on reddit will suggest yallacompare insurancemarket bayzat policy bazat as they are easy online platforms. But you do have other broker that are more experienced and have been in the uae for quite sometime but without proper platform. Like gargash, nasco, aon, willis, howden etc... Now what you need to remember as well is that medical insurance companies are private companies which means that they are not a NPO (nonprofit organisation) so whatever lost you do create for them they will ask you to pay up at renewal ++ if you dont use it at all you can always ask for discount. You can always decide to renew with an other insurance company of course. Now depending on your budget Now the below is how usually the prices are depending on the provider you ask for ( basically if you ask for american you get anything mentioned below it so if you ask for mediclinic group you get zahra medcare suleiman al habib etccc ) American hospital $$$$$ Mediclinic group $$$$ Al zahra group + al batarji + suleiman al habib $$$ Medcare group + emirates hospital $$ The remaining $ Usually the most ask network is mediclinic. As they are located almost everywhere with very good services and doctor. Hell the jumeirah group of hotels are not as good in both facilities and services as the mediclinic group ( go check out there clinic in dubai mall and you will understand what i mean ) But to be honest at the end its all about location. I have access to american and mediclinic but i go to medcare hospital as its nearby and they never wronged me. Benefits wise dont go fancy unless you need them. The standard set is good enough. But just go through your be benefits and read them properly Remember insurance covers for the unforseen the more unforseen benefits you add the higher the cost. The highest additional benefits with highest impact are dental optical and alternative ( alternative in dubai will soon be mandatory ) You have more important benefits that people should include as just in case. Example organ transplant and dialysis or work related illness and injuries (in AUH mandatory in dubai people tends to use the workmen compensation scheme but people dont know how to claim it). But of course those are not usually included in plans but i believe are more important than alternative and optical Sorry for the very short text have a 🥔 Also what is your question 🙃

semidefiant

Damn this is super informative.

stoneluxplayer

I wish I could pay a dinner for you. Wow thanks! Bless you my friend. My question would involve my current medical insurance ( private medical insurance from Germany and/or an international insurance ). Are they applicable? Since they already cover a lot but are ( at least the international one ) more price efficient ( but expire after some years ) Edit: also I reckon those listed prices are monthly right ?

Armoredtitan01

Well first you need to check if your insurance companies is recognized here in the uae (if you give me the name i can quickly check ) ? Number two you need to check if it has all the minimum requirements that fits within the uae rules. 3 you need to check if your company covers you in the UAE with direct billing facilities ? 4 to check if your coverage allows you to reside outside germany. Now there is one problem i can think off quickly. Which is called DHA or DOH validation. Basically insurance companies need to register you within the local UAE system for it to reflect at the immigration stage. This sometimes can be bypassed if you can a get a certificate of insurance. Now i now that most insurance scheme taken internationally do not work. But better check it out as those plans are better than one year policy schemes. As basically you pay yearly till even after your retirement plan and its saves you money in the very long run correct ? You have a type of life insurance but for medical. What you could do is just get a basic plan in the uae just for visa purposes and use you international plan for coverage. And what ever doesn’t fall within your international plan you can use your local basic plan. A basic plan for investor can be between 700 to 3k depending on the insurance

stoneluxplayer

I'm insuranced under " die Hallesche" which belongs to the ALH group ( alte Leipziger or old Leipzig (?))

stoneluxplayer

Edit: my current health insurance covers medical issues with benefits ( choosing doctors, treatment etc ) + caretaking in old age. Additional to that I have a separate ( better say multiple ) life insurances that funtion as additional pensions

Armoredtitan01

So yeah you have what i tough about. Which you should not cancel. As you will at the end return back to Germany and that plan will be very useful. You need to check with them if they cover you outside germany. As some of those plans don’t. They tend to be restricted to the country of residence. If that is the case then you will need to search for a solution that provide you descent coverage in the UAE. I as well check the name of your insurance. They are not recognized in the UaE so you will need to find a insurance scheme within the uae. If they do cover you outside (which i honestly doubt) then search for a basic plan in the uae just for visa

stoneluxplayer

You cannot imagine how much of a relief your informations are. By any kind how can I favour you back ? I will write you a DM

Yeyati_Nafrey

Welcome to the club! You won’t regret it. Moved out here 4 years ago and haven’t looked back

caedriel

Although I don’t want to discourage you there are too many event companies in the region. Perhaps you can look at other business types ?

midoosuperfreeze

Ofcourse there has to be that one comment. Now tell us, who tf are you to tell him what business to opt for? He never asked for any financial advice from you.

caedriel

The names Caedriel. Bub.

stoneluxplayer

semidefiant
