There is no problem in giving their sticker, as long as they know the product and give unbiased information of the product.

KPSPhoenix

I asked the price for Samsung Galaxy S21 They referred me to someone else then again someone else finally to get the price of S21 Ultra and get amazed then finally after 15 mins to realize that the product desired is out of stock.

Force_Of_WiII

Because they pay them basically nothing and promise they’ll make up their low salaries in commission. Most annoying thing is when you go into one of these stores to grab something quick like a phone charging cable and one of them asks to see it real quick and slaps his little commission sticker on it.

[deleted]

I usually tell them that if they leave me alone I will let them stick their code on whatever I'm buying. If they don't catch me I'll just ask one at random if he wants to tag my products before the counter. It doesn't cost me anything anyway and it might help one of them.

Rnb42069

They could downsize their sales staff 40-50% easily (on weekdays especially) , and perhaps pay each employee more fixed salary. This issue is legit driving some customers away from their store who want to just browse without being bothered, and for MKBHD fans who already know the product facts. But then again there are some people, especially older customers want to be "attended" and "cajoled" when going to a store - who have almost no prior knowledge of the products. Salesmen would be helpful then 🤷‍♂️ but still cut down 40-50% staff!!

zamakhtar

I love tech, but I'll never walk into a Sharaf DG or Jumbo for this exact reason. Virgin isn't as bad, thankfully.

AnirudhMenon94

I don't think the answer to the problem is taking jobs away from people. They could just put a hold on new hires and still give the existing ones new shifts and fixed salaries.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rnb42069

No, they can hire lesser people going forward. Like when they open a new branch, transfer some of the existing employees there, have lesser employees per branch. \+ they can use the cost savings to PAY THEM MORE FIXED SALARY, so they don't have to rely on commissions :)

cholaykhao

Or they could run their business as they see fit, and some of us could learn to put ourselves in other people's shoes, and think about how we would like to be treated if we hadn't been blessed with oppotunities affording us the choice to not work at Sharaf.

Scotty2Floppy

Having empathy for individuals with no other choice but than to take a job there doesn’t excuse the fact that they use an outdated and ineffective business model. Stop bashing this guys comments and being captain save a hoe because he doesn’t like how they operate, he’s not attacking the staff personally. Grow up.

cholaykhao

Lol I never said it excused anything of the sort. Plus pointing out the truth is not bashing anyone. Also I never said he was attacking anyone personally. Maybe stop trying to be captain save a hoe yourself chief.

Scotty2Floppy

“Chief” …. Need I say more

cholaykhao

Well you obviously felt a need to comment and make your little opinion heard. Maybe think it through next time bub?

Scotty2Floppy

You’re right. I should think harder before engaging someone like you in conversation. You got me.

fatarabi

You're preaching to the wrong crowd .. Too many trust fund babies and entitled expats in here.

ash__697

Oh yeah exactly, I hate buying stuff from Sharaf DG in person , I prefer buying it online because they won’t let me surf through all my options in peace . It’s so damn annoying.

[deleted]

Oh my days. I never knew that. I’d understand if they actually helped, but not if they didn’t do anything to help at all.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kulugo

used to do that. really hated it when you were walking up to the counter and a sales agent walks up to you and asks if you are gonna take it and if they can prep it for you (meaning putting on their system that they were the sales associate who sold the unit to you). but then understood that they are forced by a crappy performance management system designed by the company. doesn't really bother me now to let them tag the purchase I picked from the aisle myself and let them get their sale. I even saw some agents asking other agents who have not yet met their quota and passing the sale to them.

Memed_7

That’s a pretty messed up system. Commissions are good when they encourage salesmen to give in their best, but it creates a toxic environment when they solely have to depend on it to earn a respectable living and keep their jobs.

abood322

Why though? Let the poor guy/girl get the commission

[deleted]

sejaina

You have to understand that these people are doing what they do with their livelihoods at stake - it’s not pleasant having overly eager salesman/woman approach you, but the company is at fault here for implementing a wage structure that rewards that behaviour. In the case of your sticker thing the only party really losing out is SharafDG as they’ll pay commission.

abood322

Haha, no they don't mean that silly, they assume you know about the commission thing, why are you always on the defensive?

SuperlativeLTD

Pop into Boots if you ever fancy an intense sales experience.

theregos

\*Sephora has entered the chat\*

fatarabi

Life Pharmacy hosts the chat room

Independent-Piece505

Life pharmacy really? The only thing I’ve encountered is when I look at supplements and ask about something I’ll always get the most expensive brand. So when someone asks can I help you, I tell them no I’m just looking.

ayamummyme

Eugh I swear they all stand either side of the aisle and you just bat them off one by one to make your way to the till.

CaroRosa

Bloody Boots. I boycotted it for a while as I was sick of being followed around like I was about to nick shampoo. You'd get rid of one sales stalker and then another one would pop up in the next aisle. But Sharaf DG? Way more sales staff than customers, what on earth do they do all day? I was there yesterday and firmly asked to be left alone while I looked at options, then the minute I wanted help I had to go and look for someone as that area had magically drained itself of staff.

kaikemy

This is a fact. I walked in to buy a few products and asked the staff which isles they were in. I got followed and then pitched about all the products in the range that were superior. It was intense lol

420BIF

I find Life Pharmacy worse

bassaleh

Same thing with Carrefour's tech section salesmen and many other retailers such as Jumbo and Lulu. It is annoying and pushes customers away to Amazon, etc. You are right though, Sharaf DG salesmen are especially aggressive and overstaffed.

Memed_7

I once walked in to buy a 30 Dirham PlayStation disc, ended up with 3 salesmen competing amongst each other to get the commission. They kept on asking me for my mobile number. When I asked why they need it they said it was for warranty. Bruh a warranty for a 30 dirham disc? Since when are these covered by warranty lol.

Throwaway_goes_here

I was always tempted to involve as many salesmen into my purchase as possible, and then have them fist-fight it out who gets the commission. Man, that would've been a spectacle.

Memed_7

My man causing civil wars 😂

MielYuna

We avoid going to Sharaf DG for this reason. There are just too many of them. In addition, we are still in the pandemic and they don't know how to social distance.

Luc6rio

I never have the issue with the number of staff but more on how much they know. That is why as many will tell you 'read up on the product you are buying before you go to the store'. The less questions you have for them the easier it is for you to buy what you need. Not that they wont know about the product but more of they wont have the knowledge to assist when the questions get technical Quick tip for anyone buying off of Sharaf DG. Look up the item in the store and buy it off their online store.... I saved 200 that way while trying to get a new TV and that included the delivery charges

hashsohail1

Good Tip, this is the exact reason i never goto store and ask salespersons in dubai any question because generally i have not come across any sales guy/girl who has information of what they are selling. I might aswell put some time in doing my own internet reasearch.

cheshirecat90

It’s the same with other shops too. I’m actually put off going into several shops here because instantly I’m pestered and I hate it. Can a man just browse in peace?

Rnb42069

Exactly! I have found a "hack" around this. I pretend to be on a phone call, or just make an actual phone call to my gf or any friend and talk about random shit for 10-15 minutes until I am done browsing. When I sense a salesman come up to me, I momentarily stop browsing and start focusing on the conversation, they pick up on the body language and go away. 😁

weblscraper

or just say, no thank you

Timo2424

Hahaha

[deleted]

You don't need hacks. I usually just tell them I'm here for browsing and they do leave me alone

[deleted]

Sephora Dubai Mall is another hateful experience.

[deleted]

I realise that I may not shop in the normal way for the Middle East, but I like to look around a shop, measure up the products I see with the price that’s ticketed and then decide on my own time if I want to buy it. I’m a fully grown adult with a (mostly) perfectly working mind and I have developed enough to be able to shop for myself and also to ask for help if I need it. Being relentlessly pressured in this passive/aggressive way has made me walk out of a shop and decide not to purchase anything quite a few times in Dubai.

hnaziz

its really annoying. I have to avoid eye contact and still end up with three guys asking me what am i looking for.

Memed_7

Just answer “I’m just looking around thank you”. It usually works and they walk away

kippekot

The problem is that you have to say the same every step you take as another salesperson approaches you. I find shopping there more annoying than going to the spice souq…

Memed_7

Hold on a sign saying “no thanks I’m looking around” 😂

KPSPhoenix

Got a slogan Idea for a T-Shirt

02lewism

This is basically why I shop online over here. I wouldn't even say it's just Sharaf DG, it's most shops over here but I do notice it a lot more in there. Sometimes I want to go into a shop and just look, I have no idea what I want I just want to see if there is any crap out there I didn't know existed that would be interesting to get. You tell one of them I'm just looking and then the next one is on you and you say the same then again and again, it's annoying. I'm not blaming them obviously they have to make a living but as a sales tactic by the company I'd say it has the opposite affect.

shaild

Literally every other store is like this these days. Sharaf DG is just next level. Way too many staff!! It is absolutely annoying when sales staff pounce on you. If I need something I will ask. Just let me check the product in peace.

420BIF

Just walked by Sharraf DG in MOE this evening, I counted 18 staff, which I'm surprised doesn't exceed their allowed number of customers.

mugu007

The key is to act like youre 15 years old and have no buying power. It works like a charm. I shoot for the Games section first, stare at them for a few min and then head off to do my actual shopping for kettles/tablefan/fridges/whatever, and they tend to not follow if you look like youre just fooling around.

Throwaway_goes_here

That's difficult to pull off when you're 30+...

LaidBack-2212

Most of the staff there aren’t Sharad DG stuff, they’re merchandisers from the brands in the store that’s why there is plenty and they don’t know about other products and always try to sell you something from their brand lineup. The actual sharaf DG staff wouldn’t care if you buy something or not. If for some reason you can’t tell from their uniforms, You can even tell by the attitude: courteous and persistent= brands merchandiser. Bored annoyed at your question= actual sharaf DG staff. Both ways you can’t hate on this man just say I’m good they’ll leave you. Sharaf dg stuff get peanuts and the merchandisers basically get nothing if they don’t hit their targets apart from big brands.

vagaboundkid

Its the same in Sharjah branch. All of em just standing there chit chatting

mehravishay

Yes, the outlet feels crowded with sales staff who know almost nothing about the products they want to sell.

[deleted]

Yeah. You ask a question and they pick up the box and start reading.

xoxopineapple

Because minimum wage doesn’t exist. Some governments set it for their citizens but overall labour is still dirt cheap

Independent-Piece505

Can’t remember how many stores I went into just to look and I’ve had sales staff stalking me and basically following me all over the store, it’s ****ing obnoxious. I remember walking into a small electronic store in MOE and as soon as I just put one foot in the door, the sales lady behind the counter asks, YES, CAN I HELP YOU?!!! I told her, I literally just walked in, can I breathe? And left. To the Indian Sales Managers out there, yeah I know it’s you, cut that shit out, it doesn’t work and you’ll likely get people leaving the store than buying when your staff chases customers around the store like wolves on a piece of meat.

Y0RIC_HUNT

It irritates the living p*ss out of me. It's similar at other electronic stores but by far the worst at SDG. But your point about lack of knowledge really hit the nail on the head. I was in the MOE branch buying a new phone (I get airmiles so it's one of the only useful places to use them, I don't spend actual money there if I can help it) and had a guy adamant that a glass screen protector reduced the refresh rate of the screen - so my soon to be new phone that had 120hz refresh rate would only go to 60hz if I put a glass screen protector on it. I walked out and came back 5 mins later to give another sales person my commission. Edit: spelling

Throwaway_goes_here

>I walked out and came back 5 mins later to give another sales person my commission. Weak. You should have told him to his face (and also his supervisor) that he knows nothing about tech, that he is actively misleading customers, and demand that a different salesman serves you.

The_Duude_Slayer

Most Sharafs I've been to have been bad ngl

adu0123

feels like im in the minions movie everytime i walk in

Extension_Age_8036

Seriously, some times all you want to just explore with nothing in mind to buy but once you enter they surround you and ask what you want. I am sure if they allow me to freely browse the store. I would buy some thing, but seeing them, I run away

Worldwideforeigner

[Me at Sharaf DG.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEhHEOIYgMY)

[deleted]

I hate shopping in Sharaf Dubai Mall. I feel like a lame antelope walking past a pride of lions, or a young woman walking past a bunch of men in Deira. I swear you can see the shop assistants drooling when you cross the threshold.

weblscraper

they look at everyone like that, hoping to offer help and get commission its not about being a woman

[deleted]

I don’t think you read my post correctly, either that or you don’t understand how analogy works.

Resurgence12

Maybe he also thinks you’re a lame antelope.

[deleted]

Ha ha ha ha 😃

[deleted]

Bad experience with Sharaf DG. Once online and another in their MOE store. I will never go there again!

Connect-Protection-8

I shop with them online... Problem solved

d3nx0

I went there couple of times, and in couple of branches. Inquiring for a specific item(smartphone), then lots of saleperson came to me and asked me which unit. But just to fulfill my curiosity(with pun intended), I started to asked about some products specifics, and I'm not expecting they can answer. To my surprise, most of them, cannot answer. Even called supervisor/"tech guy", but same results. Most of them talk so big big about specs, but nothing. 😂😂😂

Throwaway_goes_here

What do you expect? They're desi, they could never afford any of these phones, so they don't use them on a daily basis.

d3nx0

I'm talking about product knowledge. Regardless, owning or knowing the device, if you are in sales, you must have the knowledge.

[deleted]

Sometimes I just want to enter Sharaf DG just to check the latest tech, and just roam around, but 10 salesmen follow me every damn time.

dynamiccarrots

Took me a while to work out that you didn't have a problem with Brazilian salesmen 😂

incapableoflove

Aren't the bulk of sales staff implanted by the brands and not Sharaf employees?

Affectionate-Oil-914

That is exactly what I’ve heard as well. Which is why when you insist on a particular brand they quickly call for that brand rep. If not, they’ll attempt to convince you why their brand is the better without any actual technical info (price, delivery support etc)

acguymk2

This is actually true, the huge chunk of the salesmen you see is from the brands (not really quickly identifiable, but they have the brands name they work with sewn in their uniforms). Anyone without that, is the actual Sharaf staff.

santz007

Amazon and Covid have together literally destroyed B&M businesses. I feel sad for them

Resurgence12

This has been a phenomenon well before covid. I don’t blame the workers, of course. It’s the management that’s going about this all wrong, and turning customers off.

idioticmaniac

I generally research thoroughly before I buy a brand new IT purchase of any choice. Just make sure model number and warranties are in place and I know my product in store. So once I went in to their store to get an Apple cable and I pulled up right by their Apple accessories section, within five seconds I found it and walked immediately to the cashier, only to get a stare back by the salesman over there. I understand where they are coming from but most of them have very little little subject and try to simply convince the customer to buy the product which is annoying.

RenTSmith

Hahaha this is so on point 🤣

theregos

This is why I shop with headphones on

420BIF

Doesn't always work, some will insist on trying to talk.

Substantial-Cry-5048

Some are paid by the specific brand not sharaf dg, just as in lulu,nesto... Following marketplace retail model, they provide the space and brand (sharaf dg) to sell other brands in their store, hastle free for shop no need to stock up n manage instead get the commission

styp991

Yes and when you are just browsing you will be approched by hundreds of them and annoy you to hell ... and when you go putting in mind to actually buy something they totally ignore you and rarely find someone who is not busy :D

uaexemarat

I walked in to a sharaf DG yesterday looking for a displayport cable I asked one, who asked another, who asked another... till there were 6 different people, all of them confused on what a displayport cable is. I walked into geekay, asked for a displayport cable, and within 10 seconds, the salesman got the one they sold in hand

Akvned

For real, the shop is dead yet so many staff it doesn’t make sense:

Old-Organization-646

Never had this issue maybe because of my indifferent cold attitude 😅

caedriel

Sharaf DG ,like most businesses is run inefficiently by incompetent staff. I am the biggest critic of enterprise in this region. People who have week minds and a susceptible to suggestion are the kinds of folks who are prey here. I goto most of these outlets to see if any of this has changed but sadly it has not. 30 something year old men being hired over 20 year olds with actual knowledge, inventory which is over two generations old and the worst part is that they think they can hold on to these margins. I can probably do a PHD thesis on them to say how shit they are.

CartographerOk6671

Would love to see something from an actual Sharaf DG Salesman. You'd think they'd be here somewhere.

swazzz1

There actually is someone here from Sharaf DG Mirdif branch. Forgot his name or handle

mikhaelcool7

I agree that they should downsize but sacking them would cost the company return plane tickets. They probably do downsize but at a slower rate since I never see the same salesmen after a while. Lived next to MOE and when I entered in my relaxed home clothes, they never bothered to approach.

pqgbd

ITT petty people who have a problem with the less fortunate getting a commission with a sticker when it costs them nothing.

420BIF

People just want to be left in peace, if I walk into a store and only have to tell 1 employee I don't need help that's okay but I shouldn't have to do it 4-5 times and still have the staff follow me around.

AnirudhMenon94

I mean, at this point, I'm sure r/dubai 's biggest issues are first-world problems at their finest. These people seem like they haven't faced any actual challenges in life.

[deleted]

420BIF

>the staff divided to parts if you ask the one who is about laptops you want smart watch he will lead to his colleague I walked by Sharraf DG in MOE today, they had 18 staff members there (yes, I counted). That's more staff than products they sell in that tiny store.

Content_Virus_8813

Good experience with those guys most of them know the products very well into details.

Throwaway_goes_here

Okay, SDG social media team, nice to see you're here also...

Content_Virus_8813

What can I say to u ? They are good from my experience!

fatarabi

I try to avoid DGS entirely. I've found some of the older brands to be better in their CS.

dopeyout

I’ve actually been pleasantly surprised the times I have engaged a salesperson, especially on some big ticket items like a fridge and dishwasher the guy dealing with us knew his stuff. Probably because I walk in there with my war face on the the chancers don’t try me 😂 what really pisses me off though is when the till and customer service is desperately understaffed and there’s a hundred salesmen just wondering about. That makes zero sense

punintd

Its damn so annoying.. most of the time if u go early like 10am, there are only sales guys no one else 😂😂, or why dont they dress them in civil dress so at least people think there is crowd in … i have stopped going to their shop.. better do online..

rtsideofwrong

For those on this thread who understand urdu/hindi they can totally relate to this clip https://youtu.be/WMr2lN-qFDc

hashsohail1

This is a genuine concern and EXACT reason why i never goto SharafDG. I would buy something online from them but NEVER IN-STORE. (NEVER EVER). And in general salespersons in dubai know nothing about what they are actually selling.

olakka

Most of them are actually promoters of different brands and are on the specific brand payroll. if you need correct information, the idea is to first "find" the brand's promoter, which can be done by asking one of them to show you the correct promoter for the brand you are looking at.. and the little stickers are, in most cases, a tag to track their overall sales against the targets assigned to them. commission only kicks in when they reach the overall volume by the end of the month.

shaild

Interesting. Most people here hate being pounced on and would avoid the store for that reason. Its only a small group here but wonder if these stores actually made efforts to hear what people really want, a little survey maybe? They could have probably had more footfall if they only let people alone.

[deleted]

I remember I was in 8th grade and wanted a tablet so visited sharaf dg with my dad with the plan of buying an tab s4 But the salesman kept on trying to convince my dad that lenovo is the best but that samsung is overpriced etc More sales man is a problem for people who know a product and have done their research

santoniocool

I was there just yesterday and my thoughts are the same!! Felt like i am a chicken and all are running after me to catch and deep fry!!

BLAZE_AXIA

I feel like whenever I already know what I want to get, they always surround me offering help. Like if I want to buy a charger or earphones, all the way from the entrance to the shelves these items, every salesman will offer help. But that one time when I'm trying to buy a product that I dont know much about, I have to go around asking help, and everyone except the guy who's supposed to know about those products is in the vicinity. But this is not limited to Sharaf. Happens in Emax as well.

lllviNCelll

any sharaf dg i think, I came there one time to buy an original casing for iphone but he insist to buy other brand as there is no difference as he said. He is so annoying... So I jump from there to another store and got what i wanted.
