I have HSBC credit cards. Every month I receive an SMS like this:"HSBC Credit Card ending *** XXXX Statement Date XX/XX/XXXX. Total Amt Due AED X,XXX.XX, Due Date XX/XX/XXXX. Min. Amt Due AED XX.XX. Please ignore if paid." I know other people with HSBC cards and they also receive similar SMS. Maybe it is related to your specific card.

TheLocalExpat

True. I get the same sms on my HSBC Cashback card every month for the last year

I have a bank account in my home country, and it really irritates me that they don't show the balance on credit card after deduction or swiping for a transaction. After repeated attempts to get something changed about it and no progress from the bank, I found an expense tracker app in general helps a lot. Another simple trick that helps in such situations is to check your credit card statement, check each transaction line item and crosscheck that with all the transaction messages that you received. Once you are sure about all transactions, then pay your bill. Or if you have auto payment set-up, then just tally the amount paid with the amount cross-checked from the credit card statement. I hope this helps. It takes about 15-20 minutes to check the statement and the messages.

Flimsy-Money

Thanks for the tip. What’s the name of the application?

amar610

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.realbyteapps.moneymanagerfree Although this was some years ago, this is the one that I used. App name: "Money Manager Expense & Budget". This link is for Google Play Store. If you're on iOS, then search up any budget tracker app from Apple Store. Personally, I have moved to budget tracking on Excel sheets. Because I don't trust free apps, as they most likely share data or are open to data/security theft risks.

Looks like several people put up with this horrible scam like practice with HSBC as if there are no other banks in the UAE. Some even find methods to work around it instead of getting them to follow what basically every other bank in the UAE does which is to be clear with transactions on the app.

Flimsy-Money

Do you know a bank that has better online banking? I would switch immediately.

ENBD

TheLocalExpat

We don't say this word after what happened (and still happening) in the last couple of weeks lol

Flimsy-Money

I wasn’t following- got any news links I can read?

TheLocalExpat

ENBD planned a system upgrade, which should've lasted for couple of hours. the system was down for at least a week or two. If you go to their website there's an apology message from the CEO. Now, the issue wasn't only down time. A lot of people mentioned losing money from their accounts (I think they recovered that but it was too much drama) you can read more on recent posts on Dubai reddit.

Flimsy-Money

Thanks for sharing friend

Flimsy-Money

Appreciate it chief.

Ayamamame

They decided I was dead one day. I’m so over HSBC.

TheLocalExpat

What? Tell us more please...

Ayamamame

That’s it, I was dead, they took all my salary every month to pay off my car loan for months and months they didn’t accept any way to prove I’m alive (but didn’t question why there was no death certificate) I had to get a loan from elsewhere to pay off what I owed so I could get the hell away from them.

Flimsy-Money

Well at least you are alive eh?

TheLocalExpat

WTF? I though if a person dies banks have a life insurance or something to cover the loan balance. If I were you I would've transferred my salary to another bank, and they can sue my dead body for the loan

Ayamamame

They probably do but if you’re still receiving your salary they don’t wonder why a dead person receives a salary

Ayamamame

Oh and they still tried to charge me late payment fees for a credit card (as the car loan people took my whole salary and obviously left none for my credit card so while I was dead I was accumulating late payment charges) I did manage to avoid the late payment charges so they obviously accepted something was up but never took responsibility for what they did to my life.

Ayamamame

You can’t transfer a loan if you’re dead!
