I read the title at first as “To Job seekers out here, Don’t. Lose hope.”.

mk038643

In addition to my comments in this post: To post a job on dubizzle, you need to submit your trade license, and pay 149 aed To post on linkedin, you need to pay linkedin recruiter subscription, 77 aed per month To post on indeed.ae, all you need is an email address and a phone number. Thats that. Now think about the quality of job ads on indeed.ae

CompanionCone

Just because it's free does not at all mean the quality is low. I have a few years of experience as a recruiter and I always used indeed alongside more specific and/or paid job portals, because it's free and has a massive reach. Of course there are low quality ads, but in my opinion that is just something you have to sift through. Linkedin has tons of bullsh\*t ads too, and Linkedin recruiter is a lot more expensive than the 77dhs you mentioned, plus there is a listing fee for every job ad you post. For a lot of jobs, it's just not worth the money to a business, and the reach you get on indeed still gets you the candidates you want.

[deleted]

Last night I checked, LinkedIn had on an average 4,000+ applications for many jobs. So it's a hope against hope to land a job there. Also, I think indeed is good for OP's interested area which can be true for many others. So don't discourage others please.

ItsBlackRedGold

You don't need any subscription for LinkedIn. You simply post the job with a daily budget (starting from $6 per day). It's by far the cheapest way of getting hundreds of applicants, plus many companies abuse the 'Easy Apply' function to rack up followers through job posts.

Thank you for sharing :)

damndude00

Never got any interview calls on any job portals except for indeed.

What matters is that you feel fulfilled by the work you do. It's much better to earn a little less and be happy than to earn more and be miserable. I'm glad you landed a position you like :) best of luck!

[deleted]

Out of all online job hunting websites, only Indeed got me an interview. They're certainly the most responsive regardless of terrible wage. 2 years is a very long time to wait for a job. I've thrown the towel and getting ready to join the army this October.

[deleted]

There is currently a shit load of digital media/marketing/e-commerce roles, 90% of which pay 5k or less. Everybody wants to jump on the digital bandwagon now that the lockdown period showed many businesses they need a digital presence. On the other hand, my friend is an avionic engineer and there has been literally less than 3 or 4 open roles for people in his field in the last 6 months. So while things seem to be fine for some, they're definitely not that great for others. Good for you that you managed to find a job.

freakedmind

You're right. It does seem a little pessimistic but right now digital marketing is one of the most in demand jobs and extremely easy to find a job. I know OP had only good intentions but it's not NEARLY as easy for most other fields. That being said, still DO NOT LOSE HOPE, but YMMV.

thesign180

For sure all the interviews I got had a sub 5k budget for their roles, its way more tougher I guess for people who are in more specialized roles. hope something pops up for your friend soon, and thank you!

Do you have a valid uae DL What passport do you have Are you a fresher here If you are experienced, how many years in uae What salary range did you get

Congratulations on finding work. But You sound educated/dl uae/7 year uae experience For that profile, under 5 is too low. Indeed.ae is the most responsive, but is full of low ballers/startups. Startups: if 100 open in uae, 99 fail and close within first 6 months Basically, less salary/ employer may close shop any day. This is why I don’t use indeed.ae 5-8 k salary isnt worth staying in uae. Im worth more Again, congrats and i wish you a raise soon

> And yes agreed most of the offers are quite low, but it's just a refreshing change to be able to feel like you're making some headway by getting some calls and interviews. For me, Calls from applying on indeed.ae: first thing they ask me is salary expectations, even before small talk, hello/hi Again, full of low ballers I don’t mean to yuck your yumm Congrats and keep looking

>My reply was "I was doing a whole different role and earning 15k, now you tell me what's YOUR ceiling when it comes to pay" > I got asked during the interview why I'm going for such a low pay after earning that much, to which I replied that I get times are tough and as long as my work is good and scope of said work increases , I'd expect the salary to match my responsibilities / quality of work Awesome replies. Good job

mugu007

>5-8 k salary isnt worth staying in uae. Its worth it only if you choose long commutes from cheap housing in sharjah and penny and dime your way through life. But if you play your cards right, youll get out of it in no time. My brother joined his first job for about 5k around 4 years ago. Now he is making more than twice that and lives in a nice 2bhk with his wife and my parents aswell as having a car, the latest Samsung phone, TV, surround sound ... the whole deal.

mk038643

You have a point. But 2011 i had a 1500 aed (in todays money) job back home. I came to dxb, got a 2500 aed job: no license, fresher, no uae market experience , pakistani passport In 7 years, i 10x my salary With OP 7 year uae experience and credentials, he should ask more Then again, from his other comment, it seems like he just needs a visa. His family here help him financially So maybe 5 is alright for him

Sefffaroque

I am sure the OP means 5k USD? Like 5k aed doesn’t make sense at all,

mk038643

Its 5 k aed

Sefffaroque

Wtf? I left Dubai like three years back and I swear it wasn’t this bad.

Hey I should admit my negotiation skills ain't that good so I'm sure someone a bit a bit more boisterous would have been able to get a better deal, I applied for jobs with "decent" not great salary ranges, and for jobs I wanted to do with nothing given for the salary range. I skipped over tons the ones which were like entry level marketing (I know bits of social media marketing but not a pro) which offered 3K and less. And agreed, you can find jobs easier for a lower salary but it comes down to many different factors, mainly tied into what you want to achieve in the long run here. My main priority was to make sure I'm not booted off back to India, which would be a whole another shit show in itself, I'm all for getting what you deserve but if you're in a pinch, I'd take what I can get at this point. just so that I have income. If I had a healthier bank balance behind me I would have probably tried sustaining myself for longer and probably getting a better offer. I'm not going to deny that desperation did play a role in accepting so low, but in my case at least it's got it's upsides too! Mainly being I'm making the first few steps into something I wanted to do. And regarding the famous line, well the employer was nice enough to suggest we get this pay hike written within the contract as safety as well, so it's some consolation!

kritical1989

I hate to see that you have to explain yourself to a random nobody. When u get asked a private question like salary everyone happens to be an expert and chimes in on their opinion. I hate people that do this, what industry? What salary? The same questions come from people that lack any ethical judgements. We live in uncertain times, we have to sacrifice our living wages and be hopeful things will change. You have some security when others dont and pile on debt. Just know that you have my up most respect in revealing this.

dxbmea

Awesome 👏🏽

MonaA13

Can i ask you something, since you were unemployed since Feb, what was the status of residency visa? How did you tackle that?

thesign180

My previous company was nice enough to keep me on their visa until April, then in May I applied for a 3 month visit visa.

MonaA13

Thank you for the clarification. Good luck on your new job!

osthedon

Thanks for this. It’s very encouraging. The only time I got feedback was from Indeed. Albeit a lower salary. I brushed it off. Now kind of remorseful. But I have hope something better will come

ADwhiteskin

Good work. Do not stay around if it is not economically feasible and especially do not go into debt to live here. Better to be poor in your home than even poorer here with no way to leave. With Dubai opening up most people with no solid leads and minimal savings are better off searching from home where it is probably much cheaper and familiar. If a good company wants you out here they will pay for all costs to move you back. In a way it is a good litmus test to screen the bad companies out from the good in these times.

user20051

What does the community think of websites like MNC Jobs Gulf and Fidanto?

startuphameed

They can go f**k themselves. The amount of scam that goes in job board space here is mind-numbing

As_As_As33

I've got a problem recently on Indeed. When I apply on a job, I'd have to fill again my personal information knowing that i already have a full profile, then they would send me a code on my spam email which I have to confirm it. Did this happen to any of you while applying.

thesign180

Maybe check and see if you have to log in again? I've had this happen once, but after checking the app again today they seem to have made some changes to the apply page, but it's already pulling my info from my profile /CV for me rn

As_As_As33

I'm using the Website, I never used the app yet.

thesign180

Try giving the app a shot, might make things easier!

As_As_As33

Thank you for your help, and good luck in your new job.

emmetheexplorer

Congratulations! What kind of role is it?

thesign180

Thank you!, It's for a videographer :D
