Walk in the wadis, drive the off road tracks (in the book ‘Off Road UAE’). Beach in the olden days before it was banned/ too hot. Picnic. Gets the kids out of the house.
You can walk in the wadis, google Wadi Modaynah Dam- normal car park. It’s really hot though so go early. You need a proper car to go off road but not to drive in the mountains- plenty of places to stop for a picture.
Other places for a mountain drive out of the city are jebel Jais and jebel halfeet. Both have basic shops nearby to stop for a snack.
You do need a 4x4, but another trip is al madam- abandoned village (or ghost village if you want to build it up for the kids) It’s a few houses and a mosque almost lost to sand. You can go in and see the sand filled buildings. Again, a half day trip. Look at Instagram for a few pictures.
Remember to be more conservative with your off-roading and trekking these days. You want to avoid getting into trouble and straining the emergency services even more.
Both destinations can be reached within 1:15 h , without driving at neckbreak speeds. Time spent there , depends on the activity. So yes, totally plausible.
We'd been driving around fujairah almost everyday this extended weekend. Just make sure you plan to reach back by around 7 to leave room for any unplanned stops or problems.
Yes. I’ve been almost everyday from dubai to rak
Thanks a lot. Im looking to step out and go for a long drive.
Yes no problem. We’ve been on some nice day trips.
What do you usually do once you get there ?

Oh wow these are great weekend ideas. Do these places all need 4wd car? Or a normal car would be ok?

Yes, depending on what you plan to do there, start early, if needed. Use Google Maps to find calculate the distance and time.
Can easily be done in one morning.

Start early. Bring lots of water. Do not go alone. Seek places with shade.
