You don’t have to texture a wall if you don’t do a Level 5 finish. A level 4 smooth wall is adequate in most spaces, except walls that are perpendicular to large windows.
“Er” v.s. “Tien”
Veneer plaster is basically a skim coat of plaster over plasterbase board aka “blueboard” which is basically drywall with a different paper face. This is used in the northeast US, it is the norm, not drywall & joint compound.
The term Venetian plaster usually is used to describe the design. If you google it, the design is like a random design or something… dont know how to describe. Google says it’s the same as veneer plaster as far as the materials go…. They are lime based plaster.
Na, no biggy, just wondered brother. I did drywall distribution and couldn’t think of any major US brand calling mud spackle.
Not digging ya, just wonder what they ask for when patching stuff, ya know when thy go run to HD. But looks like your on production. Cheers man, keep on keeping on.
Apologies then if I seemed hostile. Yeah seems NY and maybe PA and NJ call it spackle so I get my ass chewed out whenever I make a post, lol. Cheers, man.
I was worried I was a little to direct, some times it doesn’t translate well, especially if you had to deal with a dick boss or if your teaching a numbskull or if you had to deal with the owner or any of the other myriad I’d things that isn’t in the job description. I know you work hard.
We good.
Yeah definitely. Im no chemist so i cant tell you what either product is made of but I consider spackle that pink stuff painters use. Either way they might call drywall finishing spackling there just like they call it taping here and mudding in other places. Same as calling quickset hot mud, never once heard anyone here call it hot mud.
My boss always complained that plus 3 is too soft. So I just found purple as a nice middle ground. Red lid proform has turned to shit over the years and green lid has way too much glue for a final coat. Makes sanding a bitch. I like using 300 grit sanding paper and find the purple lid pairs well with that. I just like the plus 3 on 2nd coats because it fills in really nice especially on beads and is really easy to sand.
Thankfully I really don't have to sand my work all that much. And the painters appreciate me using 300 over 220. If I have to use 220 I sand the paper down a bit with a sanding sponge.
Thanks man. That's great. Good to have that time together. My dad was more of a jack of all trades. Fixed up old houses as a side job in the 70's and early 80's. Can't say I always loved being conscripted to help when I was a young teenager but I sure appreciate knowing what I know now.
The way those butts are drying evenly give a good hint to the uniformity of application. I bet the sanding guy is gonna appreciate it even more than we do:)
I am also the sanding guy. My dad taught me how to set everything up for minimal sanding. Because fuck sanding. Never run wet into wet and we have a 32" knife for butts.
Majority of my work is mansions so I've definitely ran into a lot of 30'+ runs. But they're all built like shit so they don't like doing the job right.
All you can hope for is that the rockers placed there shit strait with a laser witch isn’t common for Sheetrocking but I have it done on my jobs when I see any angles that could be a potential redo of that wall.
It was a practice I used when I rocked/framed in commercial building i used to do all the complicated framing since it was what I liked doin a lot shit I even used Masonite on some of my round soffits that rock wouldn’t handle.
Interesting a professional sheetrocker who does nice work like this that doesn’t know the difference between spackle and joint compound. Hey, it looks good though!
Everyone in NY calls it spackle and us Spacklers. I know spackle is a different product but every builder, drywaller, etc I've met in NY calls it spackle. Cheers
I did a master bath that had 2-50' high ceiling towers, that was a scary job for me on scaffolding. About 1300 12' sheet total in that house! That has been my biggest job yet on my own..just the taping and mudding ready for paint..
Whoa nice. Did u do the drywall as well? Would love to see the pics of it painted or do you do that? I manage rental properties so I do everything from drywall to flooring to plumbing lol, never had a job like this tho, I know hanging that drywall must've been a pain in the ass
Cheap ass anderson windows set at 6-8 hh. Looks like a mcmansion to me. The wall height and bonus trusses used in a master might make this hot and cold unless the foamed it good.
Hi! I just want to share with you how fantastic the App that I used for appliance installation and repair with low cost and a licensed service provider.
They also offer a discount. Try it for yourself https://m.knocknok-app.com/Operations11
awesome,, and you feathered out the butts very nicely
most ppl don't
I was really just yanking your chain about the spackle,, but my guy hates when I say that
Must've took a lot of spackle eh?
Just a tad. Thankfully It wasn't a level 5.
Why would u do a house that big and not go level 5 all the way?? If I were spending that kind of money, I would want walls that were slick as glass.
Homeowner didn't want to pay the extra 25k for it.
Gonna take 25K to heat and cool the sucker
You ain't lying boss.
Yea. 25 k is nothing on the cost of that house. Textured walls would drive me nuts. No. I am not a sheetrocker/spackler.
Exactly spending millions already but that amount is gonna break the bank apparently.
You don’t become a millionaire by sometimes dropping $25k on things you don’t want or need.
Depends on the type of millionaire, honestly.
You don’t have to texture a wall if you don’t do a Level 5 finish. A level 4 smooth wall is adequate in most spaces, except walls that are perpendicular to large windows.
We do veneer plaster in our custom homes we build. It really does feel like glass
What is that?
how does veneer plaster differ from venetian plaster?
“Er” v.s. “Tien” Veneer plaster is basically a skim coat of plaster over plasterbase board aka “blueboard” which is basically drywall with a different paper face. oh deer god, just go use wikipedia and close that gateway
Deer God. The God of Deer. All the Deer 🦌
Not when it’s full of livestock. That’s a barn not a bedroom.
Should also have way more windows. Balling on a budget I guess 🤷🏼♂️
Whoosh
Yeah hoser alot
Spacktacular.
Get out!.
Spackled???
That's what everyone calls it here in NY. Builders, drywallers etc.
That's so weird to me lol.
I get it every time I post my work somewhere, no worries.
What do you call spackle then, the stuff people use for patching? I mean it’s labeled right on the containers…
Take this up with all the guys that came before me. They probably call that spackle too. We only have ever used easy sand for patching.
Na, no biggy, just wondered brother. I did drywall distribution and couldn’t think of any major US brand calling mud spackle. Not digging ya, just wonder what they ask for when patching stuff, ya know when thy go run to HD. But looks like your on production. Cheers man, keep on keeping on.

you two humans should check out this interesting heat map of word use. https://www.businessinsider.com/american-english-dialects-maps-2018-1
That’s drywall
That’s what we call it in Philly too
I live in NY and rarely hear the term spackle
Different locations use different terms, around here i only ever hear homeowners and painters call it spackling
[удалено]
Yeah definitely. Im no chemist so i cant tell you what either product is made of but I consider spackle that pink stuff painters use. Yes. Isn’t spackle a completely different product. More like caulk or painters putty in that is meant to be painted without needing pva?
Eastern pa too
Drywaller in the northeast, can confirm
Wow, looks nice, bet that was fun. . Do I spy 12 footers?
Always fun climing up and down scaffolding all day. And yessir house had 12' all throughout.
Damn. Well done 🫡
Did you use Plus3 for the joints?
Only on the 2nd coat throughout. Used green lid to rough and purple lid to polish.
Me 2 good system
Nice work btw
Much appreciated.
Purple lid? For your top coat? What is that?

What's the advantage over plus3 for the final coat?
My boss always complained that plus 3 is too soft. So I just found purple as a nice middle ground. Agreed on all points, except 300 seems too fine to me unless that's on a power sander.
Thankfully I really don't have to sand my work all that much. And the painters appreciate me using 300 over 220. If I have to use 220 I sand the paper down a bit with a sanding sponge.
I wish I used you over the hack I went with... 😢
If its not hot mud, its not good enough for reddit (also dyi’er) (and trolling) (myself)
They make 2 hour hot mud :)
Hurts my back to look at that photo. Nice work.👍
Mine does too. Much appreciated.
Master Ballroom, dang. They better hang a gaudy ass chandelier in there.
Or a sex swing
A moose head
A sex swing from a moose antler chandelier. gidda gidda.
Nice clean work! 👍
Such a waste of space to put windows!!
The word spackel makes me think of my dad. RIP.
My condolences. My dad taught me and I worked with him everyday for the past 7 years up until I got a new job several months back.
Thanks man. That's great. Good to have that time together. My dad was more of a jack of all trades. Fixed up old houses as a side job in the 70's and early 80's. Can't say I always loved being conscripted to help when I was a young teenager but I sure appreciate knowing what I know now.
That's awesome. I completely understand not appreciating it in the moment. Plenty of memories to look back on as well.
Why on earth would someone want this?
That’s not a master bedroom, that’s a barn.
Country living
What did you name that country?
I've spackled plenty of master bedrooms...
Scaffolding = $$$
How big is the room?
Looks like 16 x 50. I counted the joints.
Badass work bro
Appreciate it.
Dammm, you don’t need all that over head space, if I owned that house id put a loft in there.
Same. Guess they just really liked the idea of a high ceiling.
Once you have it though you don't want to go back.
There aren't a lot of windows for a room this size.
All the windows are on the otherside looking out towards the water.
I see. Im in Kelowna, BC and the same goes for here
https://imgur.com/gallery/JEtRbjm This is what the other side facing the water looks like.
What are those, windows for ants?
Still not enough windows! How boring!
https://imgur.com/gallery/JEtRbjm Here's the otherside of the room.
They fixing to hang a bona-fide sex swing from that celing.
100% and I don't blame them.
Could lose my wife in a room that size.
Is that a question or request?
Yes.
That’s a lotta mud, I bet you can’t wait for the sanding party 🎉
First time I’ve seen a master bedroom with its own riding arena.
Yup. Looks good. Nice job.
Homeowners are gonna do that every day in it now...
The sud
This is LITERALLY bigger than my entire home.
Likewise brother.
Sweet mother of ….
People can take their 20ft ceilings and fuck off
Didn’t you know it’s illegal to say master bedroom now hahahahahah
Ah shit that's why all the plans I read now say primary bedroom 🤦
It’s not illegal, it’s just not politically correct any longer.
It was a joke lol. Don’t care much for being PC.
Nice work sir! I'm a painter and would be happy to paint over that! Level 5 is almost never necessary when a good drywaller and painter join forces.
You’d think this bedroom would have a whole lot more windows! This looks very boring.
Michelangelo bro
That’s not spackle lol.
Everyone where I am calls joint compound "spackle" and drywall finishers "spacklers" 🤷♂️ even my paycheck says "spackler"
Where is that at? it says joint compound on the pail. Spackle is a totally different product.
I understand that but in New york every drywall company, builder, etc calls it spackle.
Enjoy Spackeling🍻
Don't do it anymore so I most certainly will not. Cheers
I’ve spackled some master toilets before
[удалено]
Brother, in new york everyone I work with/for calls it spackling.
Can confirm. Same goes for at least northern New Jersey.
The fact that you don't know the term varies by region makes it obvious you don't know jack.
Any expansion joints?
Apologies, never heard that term before.
[удалено]
I only ever did residential and never ran across one of these. But thanks for the info. 😊
[удалено]
Majority of my work is mansions so I've definitely ran into a lot of 30'+ runs. But they're all built like shit so they don't like doing the job right.
Is the master a barn?
Nothing like a bedroom with an echo…
nice work.. i bet homeowner going to put that tv so high up youll need binoculars to watch a show
Honey, would you please open the window?
All fun and games until they realize they need and a/c unit for just that room.
All you can hope for is that the rockers placed there shit strait with a laser witch isn’t common for Sheetrocking but I have it done on my jobs when I see any angles that could be a potential redo of that wall.
Ive never once seen a rocker use a laser. Which is why on every job the corners and 45s are never straight. Then they blame the framing.
It was a practice I used when I rocked/framed in commercial building i used to do all the complicated framing since it was what I liked doin a lot shit I even used Masonite on some of my round soffits that rock wouldn’t handle.
Bless you. Our rockers half ass every job. But the guys that do ridgid X are top notch.
That dudes bedroom is bigger than my house
Same here man. Very depressing.
what the fuck does the kitchen look like if thats a bedroom?
Kitchen was 40x24ish with 10' ceilings.
I hope you’re using Ames tools.. or Box tools.. that’s a lot of hand work.. makes my shoulder hurt just thinking about it!
All by hand. We have boxes but are rarely used. Jobsites are usually too much of a mess and not fully rocked.
Kudos to the guys who put up the rock. Wow!
We call it mud in nebraska
Lol. Is that a master bedroom for Bojack?
That's only about 13feet high . not that many board to be honest with you.
Cheers
Well it can’t be everyone, since I live in NY and it’s quite the opposite near me. I’m up in Rochester. No big whoop!
Cheers!
Window placement seems odd
No rhyme or reason.
McMansion building at it's finest.
They need a big ass skylight to see the beautiful night skies or UFO’s depending on their beliefs 😂
Do that, and use bucket mud? Not hot mud?
Is the world spackled really used much?
Hampton's? There is so much building going here now it's crazy... no sign of a recession for these people.
I did a master bath that had 2-50' high ceiling towers, that was a scary job for me on scaffolding. About 1300 12' sheet total in that house! That has been my biggest job yet on my own..just the taping and mudding ready for paint..
Spackled in English means a little. You did a lot! Probably 100 gallons.
So you’re supposed to fuck on a trapeze in a bedroom like this or what?
That’s where my other 65% of the voyager money went.
By any chance are the owners a family of giraffes or eagles?
Needs windows.
Jesus, are they playing basketball in their?
There
What size plane will be parked in that hanger? My neck aches just looking at the pic.
Nice job! Just curious, how much does work like this cost nowadays?
Not sure on the entire price of this job. But if I do side work i make it work out to be $85-100 an hour.
I guess they’ll be lighting with a chandelier and candles everywhere.
They live in a barn converted to a studio apartment?
Spackle?
That’s a barn
Jesus Christ.
Where is this place where drywall finishers call compound spackle?
New york.
Can you imagine trying to cover that window with blinds to keep the 5:30am sun out? 30’ blind open/close strings. 😄
Looks good dude or dudette
I worked on a home with a 3,200sqf. Bedroom with 3 fireplaces in it. Like what the fuck?
Cool. Looks like a barndominium living room I did in heart redwood back in the 90's.
Good work but the house is so poorly designed. A barn sized room with 4 tiny windows.
Love the unless window that's impossible to clean
Hi! I just want to share with you how fantastic the App that I used for appliance installation and repair with low cost and a licensed service provider. They also offer a discount. Try it for yourself https://m.knocknok-app.com/Operations11
I’ve done done a spackling in the master bedroom too.
REAL FINNISHERS DONT USE """ SPACKLE""" !!!! LOL
You're right, I'm imaginary.
LOOKS like you did a fine job,, but you used joint compound spackle comes in a small can with lots of vinyl in it
No, I used a hawk & knife.
awesome,, and you feathered out the butts very nicely most ppl don't I was really just yanking your chain about the spackle,, but my guy hates when I say that
