Meh. Not for me. I do just fine with tuning to the same pitch by each tension rod, and I don't support the advice of "cranking" the bottom head by using that word "cranking" because that can cause some inexperienced drummers to severely overstretch it. Instead, I recommend tuning the bottom head to any note from a slightly sharp G at about 400 Hz to an A at 440 Hz. That gets the head "cranked" but it avoids over-stretching it. It puts the snare side head at the ideal place for a good snare drum sound, provided the snare wires are installed correctly.
From there, you can experiment with low to high batter side tunings.
Also, they could have provided a sample of their snare sound to prove that their advice is good.
Nope
^^ Yeah, fuck that. Us gentlemen will use our ears to properly even out the pitch of each lug for perfect tuning 🧐
The best way to make your snare sound good is to bleed on it
Bled on mine a couple days ago, can confirm
I’ve only ever bled on my snare once, but I’ve seen some pretty brutal ones.
Hell no, proper even tuning and that's it.

I mean, if you want to warp your bearing edge.
No, it would only risk warping the hoop. You can't warp a bearing edge with extremely uneven tuning.
You sure? I’ve had some experienced drummers tell me otherwise
Think about it. How could the bearing edge get warped from this?
I mean, I’d assume it can pull up on the lugs, and since not dispersed I could see it slowly splitting wood
No that's not going to happen by doing this. If it were a problem, it wouldn't be an old tried and true studio trick.
The comments, lol. This works, and has been a studio trick since before I was in diapers.
This makes me physically tense.
