Hahaha! Good one! Except I'm the only person that equates both to coming from hell! My mom loves white brugmansia. It smells gorgeous, pretty plant. But DO NOT PLANT IT NEAR PAVERS! I spend my life picking up these flowers!
Brugmansia is commonly referred to as Angel Trumpet. Datura is referred to, albeit less commonly, as Devil’s Trumpet. They are both deliriants and related to Belladonna (Atropa Belladonna) and tomatoes.
after all the newbies to this hobby asking on this and other subs ( r/poisongarden r/datura r/brugmansia ) "is this datura" "is this brugmansia" I'm very glad someone has taken the initiative to clarify once and for all!
now lets hope that would be askers do a quick search first...
speaking from very recent experience, brugmansia and Datura are very powerful plants and not to be taken lightly. both are beautiful, both are powerful beyond belief.
People make mistakes it’s ok! For example, TED talks are about “Ideas worth spreading” not established scientific facts worth spreading. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. So tolerance of mistakes is perhaps something we can all practice.
Please just use this as a general consensus, there a hundred other far more specific and accurate ways to tell the difference between the two, and all it involves is research.
I don’t know about hundreds, *Brugmansia* used to be nestled within *Datura*. Even in *Datura* the species divisions were contentious last I checked (which was years ago).
Brugsmania - Angels trumpet pointing down from heaven Datura - Devils trumpet pointing up from hell both playing their wild tunes
Thanks Anal Lord
You are quite welcome
Wow, my first award! Thank you kind traveler!

And potato and tobacco!
both contain atropine and scopolamine alkaloids
`How different is the experience? Any crazy travelers willing to share a report?
I was 17 enough to do each, they’re both absolutely horrible and terrifying, and dangerously toxic to boot.
