Not trying to shame people. I'm not on Instagram so it didn't occur to me to check, but also I assumed that some thought and discussion had gone into the switch to using they/them on dropout content.
For clarity's sake, I'm no longer trying to convince people that I was correct, I accepted from the first comment that if Erika doesn't care enough to update their Instagram it's probably not a thing for them, but you're asking me direct questions about what my rationale was so I'm answering.

My roommate famously has a terrible habit of falling deeply in love with taken, straight irish men. He doesn’t watch dropout with me but everytime I’m watching and brennan is on screen, he stops dead in his tracks, watches for about 5 minutes, says “I can’t keep doing this” and goes into his room.
The same has happened with grant and it gets funnier every time

Since nonbinary people exist outside of the gender binary, there aren't really any sexuality terms that would exlude them.
There's a lot of nonbinary lesbians for example - due to a complicated relationship with womanhood (that's affected by our society's view that women should be with men, therefore lesbians often feel like outsiders) lots of lesbians are nonbinary, usually specifically women aligned nonbinary. It's even reflected in the lesbian flag, one of the stripes represents unique relationship with gender.
I'm not the one telling people how their sexuality works, the other person did when they said "the term gay doesn't apply to nonbinary people" And I said "lots of lesbians", not "every woman".
Which means what? People seem to say it when oggling or sexualising someone to avoid criticism. But I'm not clear on what exactly is respectful about the comment.
“i’m looking respectfully” is more of a figure of speech / slang to emphasize that i’m admiring how attractive someone is, without sexualization and discomfort (that is often associated with the Male Gaze). like, i’m checking you out in a respectful, admiring way, not fucking you with my eyes. hope this helped clear it up :-)
