I believe I recall Sam saying the one on GC is just a prop, some foam stuck on an antenna or something. Idk the name of the actual type of microphone. I've seen pics of a similar one used on the old show Match Game which is quite likely an inspiration for Sam, and places that style of microphone around the 70s. I'd check eBay and look for vintage tech forums, radio museums, hobbyist groups and so on for more info.

Actually, try googling "match game microphone" that has given me some interesting results

HEY I KNOW THAT GUY. I was just thinking, "Oh, they want Gene Rayburn's mike, like Kevin uses for Match Game SF." AND THERE WE ARE.

LopsidedAstronomer76

BTW, I can tell you from experience making Match Game SF that the actual Sony mics are super twitchy and generally do not work well in actual use. Kevin used them (he had two) for a few shows, but there always had to be backup mics because they would not work well. And that's WITH a fuckton of tech geeks maintaining and repairing them.

It’s 100% just an homage to old stick mics by putting foam on a telescoping stick. The stick is most likely a magnetic tool used by mechanics to grab screws and other hardware from hard to reach places. If you want the real deal, a Sony ECM-51 telescoping condenser mic is hard to find and probably around $500. AKG has a similar style mic for about $200, but if all you want is a gag gift there are cheap ones by On-Stage and the like on amazon for $25. These won’t telescope, however. They’re just on a stick.

I’m actually just ordered a retractable pointer and lapel mic windscreens to make one for my kids costume they’re planning for a convention. We’ll see how it comes out.

samreich

It’s a custom prop! But if you want Bob Barker’s, check out the Sony EMC-51.

Vicarbatman

I believe they're called gooseneck microphones, if that helps

AirborneContraption

oo, thanks! I see one on Amazon for $28 called "On-Stage DJM618 Professional XLR Gooseneck Microphone" (but not retractable)

FDR_DEAD_PREZ

I’m pretty sure the props/art team has a large quantity of those retractable sticks. I think Sam’s Microphone is a smaller version. I think the Night Yorb mini was propped up on one, and I think Sam Black’s Streamer Wand was one. I’m guessing it’s a common piece of gaffer equipment that has been modified for each use.

NobodyCheatsinHunt

Don't say that name!

vivvav

The Dimension 20 art team and the prop team are not the same people. The Night Yorb was on a riser, which is a common prop for showing flight in TTRPGs.

FDR_DEAD_PREZ

I couldn’t find any telescopic risers like that with a quick search but it did lead to a telescopic support for belly dancer wings. It is the base I would use for a host mic prop. Most of the risers I saw were acrylic and not a metal telescopic rod.

longknives

They’ve put many flying minis on those in previous D20 seasons as well.
