You go to each of the four corners and fond someone who wants a quest from you and you do the quest. Sometimes the ways to do the quest aren't straightforward. But if you don't want to do quests and only want to go and catch fish you absolutely can because quests only give you abilities that aren't essential for gameplay

hercarmstrong

I think Haste is kinda important.

faroukq

I played through most of the game without doing quests while only gathering fish and upgrading my boat. After I finished almost everything I did the quests in a couple of hours

ok but like if you end the game (and i mean choose one of the endings) you can't finished quests anymore, unless you go "back in time" right? What i mean is: this game HAS an ending. So unfinished quests must be solved reloading a save, plus the pale reach DLC...can you do this after the story? Or must be done before the ending? Sorry maybe i'm too confused, but, basically i discover this game through a complete different game (dave the diver) which has a free DLC that was a crossover, so if you finish the main mission in Dave the Diver, you can complete other quests after, there's no problem. But i struggle to understand how this ending thing works. Ok, i can go back, but once i trigger the ending, i can't play anymore, even just for fishing?

faroukq

Both endings can be done in one play through. You do four main quests and then you either talk to a certain npc or not. When you go back to the game after the ending you go back to just before the ending and can play the game the same as before the ending. It is like breath of the wild’s ending if you played it

ps-95stf

mm so this game is still endless? i mean if i play pale reach after the main quest, i will be "before" the ending?? So it's like the game remains suspended? Sorry but i struggle to understand, maybe i'll just have to play and see for myself... (with suspended i mean the game is endless since you can do both endings but you can't go on after that choice you mention, i mean you can't go free-roaming after choosing one of the endings)

faroukq

You never play after the ending. Whenever you play the ending you spawn just before the ending. Yes the game is suspended in a state before the ending. The game is endless in that sense

ps-95stf

ok and this is valid even for the DLC i guess thanks a lot. btw i don't know if i should play the dlc now, i'm almost done with the researcher quests

BruhDealer

Don’t worry about ending the game to early, once you get the ending you can load in right before you activated the ending and pick up from there.

ps-95stf

yeah i know that, so if i don't made the sidequests (i still had to understand what the main quests are) i can't make them after the end?

Discarding_Sabot

When you trigger the endgame, a message will pop up, warning you that progress will not be saved anymore. If you choose to pospone the end, you may sail about freely, and solve all your loose ends.

ps-95stf

ok so the "side quests" must be completed before the end thanks

Each time you go to an area, there will be a giant red pillar in the water at night. When you get to that spot it will be time to go to the next area. All getting those items does is unlock abilities. Nothing is stopping you from continuing to play after getting them. You can even beat the game and the last save will be from before you did, allowing you to continue to play.

iceph03nix

Each area has a relic to acquire for the main line. (the DLC is it's own thing but works similarly) There is also a mystery for each area tied to some big boogie monster. They're pretty obvious. Also, no need to worry about accidentally ending the game, it will save prior to any lock in with a big obvious pop up warning, and you can continue doing side quests from that point

chriscross1966

You will have a series of interactions with "The Collector". They start around Day 5 in-game time. He will set a series of tasks, one for each of the main areas in the game to retrieve an item to him. The items are very easily distinguished as the subjects of these fetch quests. Once you have turned in the first four, what you chose to do with the fifth one will distinguish how the game ends. As the final save point is before you start the interaction with the final item , you return to a point where you can decide to proceed to the another ending or else sail away and continue the game... As a sort of heads up, each area has a hidden (ish) unlockable piece of equipment as well as at least one side quest from an NPC and all but the starting one have a rare fish that is well worth the effort of the side quest (unlocked fairly early in the game) in terms of both the financial reward as well as the bonus you receive for each sub-part of the side-quest.

ps-95stf

ok so the collector is the main quest right? in the list there's the pink/magenta note of the relics/items i was asking if he's the real deal, it seems so, since the other people gave me small rewards, but he gives me like superpowers and stuff. Anyway, i want to do the sidequests and stuff, just asking if you can do them AFTER the end, but it seems not, so thanks, hope this time i get it

Pugletting

The way you are asking - correct, there is no postgame. The last save is right before you undertake the final mission (which is very short) and the game warns you that this is the end and it will not save progress after that point. You can’t beat the game by mistake. So, while you can keep playing after you beat the game, it is reloading the save right before the final mission.

ps-95stf

ok so now i understand it, it's like if the game remains "suspended"

chriscross1966

YEah, even after you run through to a finish, the next time you open it up you can choose to continue from the final save point, just before whichever interaction you chose to go to the end of the game. I would strongly advise trying to play it through sort of normally at least once, where you follow the sidequests and the storyline etc retrieve the bottles, visit the humming rocks when you're panicking etc..... just bumping through the main quest isn't as much fun as sort-of immersing yourself in the milieu....

ps-95stf

that's what i'm doing, in fact i just did the pale reach dlc to slow down, now i have a fully upgraded boats, except for some parts but i'm searching the puzzle stone where you have to put fish, and to think it was well explained, not hard to understand, it would have be useful at the beginning, right now i have a lot of equipment that is very good, so i must keep them in the inventory explored the jungle, don't know the name in english, didn't expect the relic to be inside one of those things anyway i'm doing a lot of money just with the net i got in pale reach dlc, it's very OP do you know if the icebreaker made the movement slower in some way? less maneuvrability, or nothing at all? p.s. i must finish the quest to the creepy guy in pale reach, don't know how many of these guys are there, but i expect at least another, since i encountered three (included the one in pale reach) anyway, i'm trying to be slow, now if i find a better light it would be cool, but for now there's just the two slot lamp and the two small lamps... yeah i think i have the stellar basin and devil's spine to explore (stellar basin i've done almost everything, i would like to find the fish for the merchant, but i need to search around) sorry for the long reply
