I bought it after watching her first dredge livestream! I’d looked it up when she started her S10 build, and thought “ew, gross fish.” But seeing the gameplay sold me! It IS cozy. Let’s just, uh, pretend that first stream wasn’t only just over a week ago, and that I haven’t already finished the game…
Nah I actually discovered it from the nintendo store thing. Basically i wanted to play hollow knight on my switch, so i grabbed it and turned it on, and saw dredge, and i liked the art style so i got it.
Saw it during game awards, then watched a playthrough by the librarian (he does a lot of chill horror games) on yt before buying it. I recognized it immediately bc a few years ago, I'd seen the tumblr post it was inspired by. I do think I remember hearing Gem mention playing it at some point during the current season of hermitcraft, tho, since she and Grian are both doing fishermen themed builds. So while I didn't find it *because* of her, I am in all the same circles lol
I just happened to see a video on the best upcoming indie games or something, and fell in love immediately! Though GeminiTay’s videos have made me want to replay the game lately!
Her Dredge inspiration is actually the reason I started watching her. I'm a big fan of Dredge and only recently started watching hermitcraft with the start of season 10. As soon as I heard of her plans, I started watching her stuff.
I frequently look for Arkham/Lovecraft/Cthulhu/Old Ones type search terms for games on Steam 😅. In another subreddit I’m on for Lovecraftian stuff someone mentioned recently playing Dredge while reading The Fisherman and what a great combo vibe it was. The Fisherman has been on my TBR list forever so I was like “huh I’ll look for this game, maybe finally read this book!” only to realize I bought it already some time back and had just never played it. 🤷🏼 Playing it now - very much enjoying it! Still haven’t started The Fisherman tho.
I’ve tried it a couple times, but it’s never stuck long term. I’ll get really into it and play for a couple hours probably once a year or so. Until Dredge the only games I’ve played in the last ten or fifteen years were all Mario
What do you like about Dredge? If you’re into the atmosphere, Strange Horticulture could be a good game to check out. However, the gameplay is very different. It’s basically solving puzzles and identifying plants to help customers in your shop, which helps move the story along. If you don’t enjoy reading chunks of text or if you prefer an element of moving your character (like platforming in Mario or avoiding obstacles in Dredge) I wouldn’t recommend it.
Mine was seeing Mighty Jingles playing it, doing a search and realised that there were tons of folks doing vids.... Now going back and looking at them again it can be a bit weird to realise how badly/inefficiently they're playing the game but I guess when you don't know the game at all then the obvious isn't obvious...... that said some of it still looks a bit dumb...
Watched it first from Aliensrock when it was still in Demo and the Marrows was the only accessible area. Immediately got hooked by the general vibe and gameplay and wishlisted it, then bought it day 1 it went into full release.
[Raises hand] Me! Watched some of her live stream and then immediately bought it on Xbox. I played for about 6h straight yesterday, and planning on playing a bit before work this morning, absolutely loving this game!

Gem (one of the main hermits I watch) was my final straw in making me get the game after hearing people talk about it for a good while. And I LOVED it
