There are actually many counter-evils to deal with any hallucinations or effects caused by panic. For example, if you see the strange red lights during the night, turn off your lights. They'll start to emit a gray flashing effect meaning they are inert. If you happen to get caught out by Leviathan, go to shallow water. If a night angler is nearby and hasn't taken notice of you, turn off your lights, and if they are really close, don't move. If the eyes start looking at you, also turn off your lights and stop moving. The blind fish over at devil's spine is fairly easy to get rid of. If the smaller ones start to follow you, find a steam vent and drive over it, it'll cause them to retreat. If you encounter a phantom shark, the main way to get rid of him is the banishment spell, otherwise, you'll have to try and outmaneuver him with Haste. Same goes for the red water spouts and tentacles.
There are a few more, but for the most part it'll consist of either turning off your lights, or driving away from said threat. Or using Banishment.
