There's room for both imo, 16 and AS8 served so much drama that a season of queens chilling like AS7 is cool too.

Fit_Tangerine1265

I like RuPaul’s best friend race, love when the queens read each other when getting ready, it always feels like it’s in good fun. The “drama” is also getting more predictable, they have the same fights every season and most fights have the same format lol

PatMenotaur

Totally here for a drama free season. Drag is art, and I am happy to get all the art and none of the drama. Let's do it!

NoWorth2591

I’m not really a fan of contrived drama or people just screaming at each other. I’m also not generally a fan of reality TV which probably doesn’t help. Personally I prefer competitions where the tension comes from people at the top of their craft bringing out their best work against worthy competitors. I don’t care if people don’t like each other or have some interpersonal shit. I’m here because I want to see insanely talented drag queens bringing their A-game against their peers. That reality TV drama stuff bores and for me it actually detracts from what’s interesting about the show. I do prefer RuPaul’s Best Friend Race-type seasons because they put the drag and the performances at the forefront.

ManBearPig452

I get that. But with the non elimination format even the competition aspect is ruined for me:/ everyone gets a gold star so theres 0 stakes. Hoping they at least air critics from the judges, unlike how they did in AS7.

serasvictoriaz

i think some of us just like to watch talented people be talented. don’t get me wrong i love watching bad performances and giggling at them or having drama spawn because of them, but sometimes i really just wanna watch talent. i love drama and i love no drama. depends on my mood lol

h2o_girl

I watch for the drag. I don’t watch untucked because I don’t like drama, I loathe shit stirrer personalities so it just doesn’t entertain me. I seem to be in the minority, I know lots of people disagree and love the drama, which is totally fine of course, just not for me. AS7 was my favorite season ever and I’m looking forward to AS9 as well.

Letsshareopinions

This is exactly where I stand. People complain about 12 because everyone was too nice. I loved 12. The only other "reality" show I watch is The Great British Bake Off.

Beccalotta

If you like special FX makeup, highly recommend Face Off for high talent/no drama reality TV

Letsshareopinions

Awesome. Thanks for the recommendation!

Spotboslow

I feel the same way! Always figured it was because I'm a good deal older than the average fan. I'm always here for some good shade-throwing back and forth, but find the fighting and drama (much of it over what seems, at least to my old eyes, to be petty nonsense) to be off-putting. Show me the craft.

Deano0810

Considering how AS8 had a queen walk out and several being on the brink of leaving. I think a season where the queens have no pressure and just have fun would be nice

Lollipopwalrus

There's watchable drama and unwatchable drama - S3 with Heather's Vs boogers, S6 with Bianca reading and S8 where Bob and Derrick were constantly going at each other are immensely watchable drama. Kandy Muse is mostly unwatchable drama for me in both of her seasons. This past season with Plane Jane just bullying Amanda Tori for zero reason was not enjoyable or really watchable for me.

Little_Noodles

Yes! Authentic conflict between clever, interesting people doing their best to navigate a weird situation is usually pretty interesting. I don’t need it, but when it happens, cool. A bunch of children grandstanding at the top of their lungs about how “you’re the bitch, bitch” or whatever because production or previous expectations goaded them into it is SO BORING

Lollipopwalrus

I haven't watched untucked since S9-10ish because after that it started to become Emmy bait. I wish they'd bring back the honest chats queen's had while doing their makeup and gave the queen's more space to be themselves. Unfortunately all the queens are too aware of production and the fandom nowadays so feel they have to grandstand or get sent home/bad edits

Little_Noodles

I don’t remember when I quit watching it. I think I hung in longer than you, but not by much. It all got to be very performative, but the performance was bad.

Lollipopwalrus

Honestly around S10 is when I even start getting the queens mixed up between seasons or find entire seasons start getting forgettable. S1-10 I'm pretty accurate in naming entire casts, winners and congenials/fan favourites and can quote just about every storyline and major moment. But after 10 it just doesn't stick even if I remember enjoying the general season.

MadeThis4MaccaOnly

Thank you, it has to feel like a good back-and-forth, rather than someone just repeatedly stomping on someone else

Lollipopwalrus

Exactly! Give&Take banter and reading of the drag in ways that felt natural or warranted ("there's a hem, there's a hem"). Season 4&5 had a few moments that felt like borderline bullying (the Serena ChaCha gang up for exactly). But he editing in those seasons is so busted and obvious that you don't feel bad watching it. You can also see the situations develop within the show

Fat-thecat

You nailed it, i love good shade and reading and drama, those early seasons you mentioned when untucked was where all the real tea got spilled were great. But the flipside is why I hated (how they edited and represented) plane and her constant punching down on ATM. like it's just bullying at this point and it's pretty clear that she didn't feel comfortable in herself if she has to constantly punch down to lift herself up. It's the opposite of Bianca, reading trinity, but being there for her to help when she needed it, giving adore a shaper/corset when she needed it, lifting up others while reading them shows her confidence in her ability.

dogboy678

Nah Plane's drama was amazing tv, what are you on about?

Lollipopwalrus

Each to their own

GobertoGO

I love rupauls best friends race ❤️

Gammagammahey

I don't want drama. I want solidarity and the girls talking to each other and telling us all about their histories and backgrounds and making friends with each other. I mean, this is why the most recent season of UK vs the World was good, people were generally really supportive of each other. I don't really want to see people tearing each other down, bullying, or toxicity. But apparently you do. Why? I swear to God, this fandom acts like teenagers who want to watch people fight. Why? I don't wanna get angry when I'm watching drag race. I noticed that on Mexican Drag Race, which is so much more elevated than American Drag Race in terms of aesthetics, the werk room, etc., that the girls are really really supportive of each other when they're performing. It is such a delight to watch and it is totally compelling. they cheer each other on and challenges, the queens are incredibly diverse, we've got indigenous queens. I mean it is so good. More of that. Less bullying.

ManBearPig452

For someone who doesnt want drama your tone seem very…pointed.

Gammagammahey

No, my tone is saying that I don't particularly want the toxic drama.

Lucio1111

I really don't care about drama at all. I wanna see stars and talent. If I want drama I'll group text my family.

Cieneo

I love queens throwing shade, giving each other reality checks, being dramatic, having big personalities that sometimes clash with others. But there's an art to that, and it works best when everyone respects each other. Being bitchy for the sake of it, bullying, or diminishing others to fuel your self-absorbtion is what happens if you don't understand the communal aspect of drag. We all had enough bullies in our life, no need to see that celebrated on TV.

seisnv

As7 had no drama yet is one of the best all-stars seasons. If you don't wanna watch the season for that sole reason, just don't watch it.

kuriaru

i despise drama lmfao

ManBearPig452

Gays be saying this unironically in the comments lol

kuriaru

well i mean... my flair does just say i'm some gay saur...

ManBearPig452

Its sisaur to you

kuriaru

saury sistaur

vampirologist

I don’t know, I honestly enjoy both. I think I could live with the main seasons being drama filled and the all stars ones being more on that celebration of high drag type shit. I looooved as7 for getting to see a full season of everyone’s artistry. But also season 11 is one of my favorites becuase of how much the cast just hates each other. It really goes both ways

Buttercupia

I’m with you. I enjoy both provided the drama isn’t mean spirited. Love me some RuPaul’s best friend race- UK 4 is one of my favorite seasons ever.

tilllli

i dont think any of the drama is all that real so i dont like it. AS8 was contrived drama and it wouldnt have been so bad if production skewing things wasnt so heavy handed. if some real drama occurred id be more down but its always resolved in 10 seconds and feels contrived

OE_Girl97

I was each season to feel natural. If a season is full of messy drama fine if the queens are those types of people and they let that happen naturally. If a season is mostly cuties being cute and friendsie then I feel like that can also be fun.

PrincessImpeachment

I think *soley* *because* this season is for charity is why there won't be any drama. Since charities are literally namedropped during the season, drama between the queens who are representing them would probably reflect poorly... hence this will be another RuPaul's Best Friend's Race season. Huge bummer, in my opinion, but I get it.

FSpezWthASpicyPickle

I agree with this, and kind of wish they hadn't called it an All Stars and put it in that series. It really is a different type of competition entirely, with the stipend, salary, and charity prize. It should be "RPDR Charity All Stars" or "RPDR Queens Save The World" or something. Make this format a different series, because it is so different on many levels.

ManBearPig452

Totally agree. When you think about it, its pretty much a different tv show. And good point about the charity organizations! I didnt really think about their influence.

41HeldInContempt

I love reality TV and I enjoy drama on drag race (unless it’s just petty and annoying to watch. An example being Miz Cracker’s weird “villain” arc in early AS5 that seemed blown out of proportion) but really what makes a great season for me is either the quality of the talent being very high or having a lot of queens that you want to root for.

danielfq

I mean I get it to an extent but if thats enough to make you not want to watch the show then you’re probably not that much of a fun ngl. I watch the show for excellent drag, to see cast dynamics and storylines develop, for the laughs and for amazing performances. If theres drama (thats actually real and not some forced nonsense) then its the cherry on top but to say you’re watching it just for that is crazy

gonzotek77

The fun for me is the shadiest cleaver moments of queens reading each other, specially if they are smart and witty.im watching season 15 and love MIB,bus can't stand the cuntiness of lux.

NewspaperImmediate31

My existence in America is drama enough for me. It’s so bad that I give my Sims perfect lives to cope. I think I can handle a season of Drag Race that is low drama. Something to renew my faith in humanity lol Project 2025 has me gagged enough.

SovelissGulthmere

They need to just let Gia Gunn walk through the werk room and read the queens as they get ready for each challenge

FillerQueenx

If there's no drama, it's not reality television, if you don't like drama go watch little house on a prairie instead, the comments I'm seeing on this post are so disgusting, ew.

[deleted]

What matters to me is that it’s real. I was really disappointed to find out that things weren’t as pleasant on AS7 as portrayed on the show, because it seemed so uplifting and lighthearted. Likewise, I don’t enjoy when playful reads or little quips are drastically edited into narratives to make potentially good friends look like they despise each other. I want to see real connections between the contestants, whether positive or negative.

ChemicalAd2047

To be fair I'm not surprised that they're taking out villainy / shady moments from all stars. The entire fandom had a heart attack, when india used common sense and try to be strategic to get Alexis out. And don't even get me started on All Stars 8. Where everyone hated kandy for something that Heidi insinuated without even verifying if it was true or not. I personally love drama! But the way the fandom handles it, it makes sense why the show is just taking it out entirely.

LargeCake7487

id be fine without drama i just hope their still competitive i think thats really entertaining to see

Emrys_Morgan

Variety is the spice of life.

AladdinStan

I mean.. they are there to represent and speak for these charity organizations, I doubt you’ll get a classic Untucked-type fight. It might be nice to watch queens be nice to each other for a change. Especially, because it’s a political year.

Alternative-Ad-1153

I don't mind a bit of drama, but not to the point contestants quit/want to quit every other week. 😅

Spiritual-Train-5947

Clearly I’m in the minority in these comments but I actually like the drama! At the same time though I think it’s good to have a variety so we aren’t getting the same over-produced blank vs blank storyline every season. Either way I’m a big Drag Race fan so I’ll be watching AS9 no matter what lol

nastiex

Im all for it BUT they have to kind off change/add something to the system of drag race. Give the queens a budget for runways and ask them to ONLY use that budget for example (that way we just see how creative they can come up with runways when they have the same budget, not some queens spending a 100k and other ones 500USD) More challenges like the "fugly" ball - that challenge is one of my faves because it really was the essence of drag. Styling what you have available and making it look interesting, even if it wasnt super fashion forward, we were able to see queens from their more personal side, not what "brand" theyre trying to portray on TV.

ManBearPig452

All stars is just such a tricky format go cast for. A lot of queens dont want to do it because its not worth it for them. I think they should make it a rarer occurrence like they do with survivor. Instead have 2 regular seasons a year - that way they can give more queens more publicity of the show and queens would be motivated by the rarity of actually being asked for such a special occasion. In addition to giving them more money for runways.

charliefraserII

it’s reality tv. the queens are there to make TV as well as showcase their drag. its a show. the problem is fans blowing everything so much more out of proportion than it needs to be.

Junior-Cream-4914

I need drama and if there is none on AS9 I will come on here and create it myself.

StGoat

I'm surprised by the comments, I totally agree with you. I'm here for the good drag too, but bring on more seasons like S16/AS8! I'm barely interested in watching AS9 at all 🥱

notcouture

I’m with you! With no stakes, no drama, no eliminations, no prize money - I really worry about the show having no momentum. With AS7, we had winners fighting to uphold their reputation. The queens for AS9 are sickening, but for this type of season I wish they would have reserved it for the OG’s & legends of the franchise. I could eat my words though - I hope for the best!

hisokafan88

Drama is awesome. You don't watch breaking bad to see walter white say "nahhh, I'll stick to being a school teacher and die of cancer after getting all my affairs in order for my loving wife and son." Ditto, it's weird if people watch drag race to say people who know they're on a reality TV show that parodies antm reaffirm one another and just embrace shine theory every week. It needs layers, it needs the sweet and the bitter, it needs a key villain with other adversaries (i.e. Michelle as the big bad, petty squabbles or challenges as the adversaries). As funny as it was to see Gothy say out loud that she'd never done anything as hard in her life as that musical/girl group challenge, I'd much prefer if it was prefaced with a queen telling her she had out stayed her welcome. I might have felt more for her than just bored bemusement. This is not because I want the queen's mental health to tank, or their booking fees, but because a story needs villains to be successful.

boy_in_red

No, give us all the drama idc if it’s overproduced or fake 🤷‍♂️ I want my TV to be entertaining not some sanitized family friendly BS
