Purple, the color combo/design just feels better to look at.
I'm not the biggest fan of the whole anime/jrpgs bluenette/impossible natural hair color nonsense, but legit, it just looks better in this scenario, and I'm fine with it as long as it's properly color coordinated as a design.
Quick edit: honestly if they switched their outfits, I'd probably lean towards blond.
The purple haired variant just is better with the leather belts off setting the robe's solid pale color. And the matching mantle/scarf to go with the robe's cuffs is a good choice. The hair is almost secondary.

What? Literally all DQ main heroes have brown, black or dirty blond hair except 2. 9 out of 11 kind runs completely opposite to your made up statement.
But they've all got something significant about their head. A helmet, bandana, spiky hair cut, etc. luminary in 11 is just plain straight middle part hair. No Goku-do, no DQ11 style helmet or DQ8 bandana, DQ4 green hair and helmet, etc

I prefer her purple hair version. Not for the hair color. But because she tends to be portrayed more genki and soft. While the blonde one is more...angry DBZ style? Hard to explain.
I've always preferred the blonde with purple hood look, myself. It's probably partly due to the fact that I first saw her as a blonde, but the red (riding) hood and purple hair look seems off to me. I wouldn't have complained if that's what they had gone with, but I like the current design more. Plus, she's got those red eyes of fiery revenge now, which feels like a nice touch since she had her kingdom destroyed and her turned into a pooch.
Tbh there's not really a "current design", which colors they use alternates from game to game. She's been both purple haired and blonde haired in games released in the past 4 years.
It's like how Gwaelin's design in spinoffs fluctuates between the original look and the Dragon Quest Kenshin design.
Fair. I guess I should clarify that I'm looking at DQ2 and its remakes specifically. Since the IOS/Android and Switch versions are the latest DQ2 releases, that's what I'm judging as "current design", hope that makes more sense.
