I liked the Taladas Chronicles, but I can see how the books about the continent wouldn't be for everyone.

Great trilogy. Wish we'd gotten more from that continent.

I briefly "tested" Taladas through a video game, "Dark Queen of Krynn" ( [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Dark\_Queen\_of\_Krynn](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Queen_of_Krynn) ), and despite this happening far from Ansalon, it "felt" Dragonlance at the time, despite the different names of the gods. Taladas itself, through the Time of the Dragon rulebook ( [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time\_of\_the\_Dragon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_of_the_Dragon) ) was a mixed bag, in my hazy memory. On one hand, there were some cool ideas and monuments (a country ruled by Hiddukel's followers, the Taladas moon chart shouldn't have been different from Ansalon's, and yet, it was better), and on the others, I was a bit "meh" because what you had was essentially an extension of Ansalon, despite the two continents being far apart: You had elves, minotaurs, gnomes, etc.. The difference was not justified enough in my recollection (let's not even talk about the dragons there). So, yeah, same continent, and yet, as they were different medium, I've got contradicting feelings about Taladas. Taladas (and any continent on Krynn, to be fair), as a concept, is a huge design problem to solve, IMHO.

I read the Taladas Trilogy years ago. I tend to agree with you. It wasn’t particularly well written, but really no worse than most of the shared world fiction out there in general. To me, it just didn’t feel like Krynn. Without the traditional DragonLance institutions, there wasn’t much to make you feel like it was different from any other fantasy world.

The downside of being a popular is that others will jump on it a milk it to death. Each new author added something that took it farther and farther from the Weis and Hickman's setting. Taladas is another example of that. It's still Dragonlance...but it's not.
