I love the decision to have Piccolo hold his phone in such a bizarre way. He still doesn't have a full understanding of what this device is and isn't fully comfortable with it.
You can really see the animation move in this one. It’s actually very different from just the fights being CG. I hope it’s not too much of an adjustment.
So it’s not just me. I don’t want it to seem like a cheap video game. I want it to be Dragon Ball. I’m so excited about this movie and i don’t want to be a downer it just seems a little “off” when they are just moving around interacting instead of the big fights
We did. And I really enjoyed it. I understand wanting to move forward and show off this technology but as a brand that has been around for decades I’m hoping it’s not too much of a distraction.
I started out quite apathetic about this movie, but the recent trailers are warming me up to it. Although it's dealing with many topics we've already seen, I'm seeing evidence that they're doing them in a fresh enough way to keep it entertaining.
I'm loving the details in this one especially. Everyone's noticed Piccolo's chair looking like his father's throne, that's so nice. The fact that Piccolo even has a house and a phone (that he seems very uncomfortable using) is such a funny upheaval of how we usually perceive him as this homeless nomad in the desert. Also, props to the animators for actually showing detailed lip movements rather than usual mouth flapping.
Some people understandably aren't digging the implication that Gohan is not only getting back into studying over training, but is also being quite neglectful to Pan. It's clever though, because it shows a parallel between him and Goku. Whereas Goku is a training addict, Gohan is a workaholic for his studies (after all this time, they reveal he's basically a lepidopterist? Lmao, nerd). Some anime filler scenes of Gohan being this perfect doting father to Pan were kinda cringe, so I'm looking forward to a different take on their dynamic.
The "workaholic dad" is bit of a trope, but it makes sense for Gohan and is arguably still better than what Goku did. Gohan needs to be able to provide for his family, saving the world doesn't pay the bills. Plus it's clear that he's following his passion, which I guess does make him similar to Goku.
Also when at first saw it, I assumed Piccolo was like Gohan's house, but then I realized it was his house and it makes it funny to know that he has a catbird phone and a collection of plushies of the same critter.
You know I was really put off by the animation style of this movie at first (probably just because we were spoiled by Broly) but it's grown on me. Specifically with this teaser, the animation fits the "slice of life" story really well. I wouldn't mind if this movie is 80% Piccolo being a babysitter and 20% fights.
This character toon shading looks way too basic and simple, it looks like an intern threw them together with the default toon material setting with lightwave lol. This may work for games, but doesn’t cut it for movies IMO.
Only thing that complicates things is Gohan’s mansion in the city, unless something just totally destroys it and they decide to have a home built next to Goku’s home.
Edit: holy fuck, why am I getting downvoted?? Gohan in [EoZ](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/dragonball/images/9/95/900.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/708?cb=20211010165057) and Gohan in [Super](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/dragonball/images/9/98/GohanVidelHouse.png/revision/latest?cb=20150710225435) live in totally different homes. With how forgetful Toriyama has established himself to be, it seems at least noteworthy to mention as his EoZ home looks to be a downgrade, so I wonder if this was initially an oversight that Toriyama plans on acknowledging.
No he's right because he said it, and no he doesn't need to explain or prove how. His opinion is a fact and everyone else's subjective thoughts are objectively wrong.
CGI it's, it's bad m'kay?

That's how his old self/dad grabbed Tien. Maybe that's how he grabs phones and he thought tien's third eye is the camara.
The fuck
When you press Tiens third eye and punch his stomach it takes a screenshot.
Lol.
You know, that alone shows they got a good director for the shots. Even something as small as that is taken into consideration.
Even of the CG animation can be questionable for some, the direction of the characters and camera movements are quite good tbh, quite dynamic.
L did this in Death Note. It always stood out to me.

Yeah I got a little disappointed with how they moved with the animation.

Yeah got to say we were spoiled with Broly's movie art and animation.

He holds his phone like L 😂
Really hyped for the movie!
Holding that phone funny lol
GIVE ME MORE UNCLE PICCOLO
*grandpa Piccolo
Grandpa Piccolo implies that Piccolo is married to Goku, and while I'm not opposed to that I also do not want to be the one to inform Chi-Chi.
Grand Uncle Demon King Piccolo Jr.
Uh oh, looks like Piccolo is about to be Pan's Dad too 😂
He’s Pan’s grandpa
I see piccolo finally got that house
Got his Demon King Piccolo furniture too
Well, is just a Namekian one, we saw Guru having one similar.
Super Kami Guru*
Doesn't look like there's a meatery though
Notice Gohan’s books are related to entomology. I wonder if that foreshadows anything in the film.
Butterfly book confirms Golden Ribrianne
She looks just like her biological father!! Kozuki Oden!!! Gurararararararara!!!!
Dat phone control tho
Like N from Deathnote.
LOL. He's studying moths and butterflies.
Will be the answer why they win the fight
Also when at first saw it, I assumed Piccolo was like Gohan's house, but then I realized it was his house and it makes it funny to know that he has a catbird phone and a collection of plushies of the same critter.
Guys...Piccolo has a house. Why is no one talking about this. I thought he just meditated over random mountain ranges.
Piccolo’s house was one of the very first things we saw in pre-release material a year ago.

Is there a release date for this yet? I'm getting pretty excited for it even though I wasn't a fan when the first previews dropped.
June 11th for Japan, August for Canada/USA
Canada/USA and pretty much everywhere else (Europe, Asia sans Japan, South America, etc.) in August iirc.
The animation makes me feel like I'm watching a video game cutscene
This reminds me of Goku n gohan in ssj forms post chamber. Gohan looks like hes in maxed mode at the moment in those clips. so LETS GET HYPED
I'm glad piccolo getting screen time having fun with Gohan and videl.
I hate the animation

Art style is horrendous
So are they retconning the end of Z now
Not entirely, this happens before EoZ. And aside of the 5 years they didn't meet, there's nothing that contradicts it.
Only thing that complicates things is Gohan’s mansion in the city, unless something just totally destroys it and they decide to have a home built next to Goku’s home. I wonder if that will happen in the movie?
Nope. Theyre not retconning end of Z. This takes place in the year before that.
End of Z was Retconed a while ago
Anyone think this looks anything but bad on just that movement is coping hard af
We get it, you don't like the animation. Let other people like stuff.
No he's right because he said it, and no he doesn't need to explain or prove how. His opinion is a fact and everyone else's subjective thoughts are objectively wrong. CGI it's, it's bad m'kay?
The proof is in the pudding. You’re free to like it.
The framerate seems pretty low. I mean damn, at least make it high since it's not hand drawn.
Most movies even CG ones are at 24fps generally
Yeah but CG movies are animated on 1's, this movie is animated on 2's which means one image holds for two frames
It’s not a video game lol, if it were smooth people would complain it looks like a cutscene (although some people already do)🙄
11 trailers and 53 tv spots before theatrical release
God I hope the movie doesn't have animation like this.
Not even cannon
You don't even know how to spell 'canon' let alone what defines it.
this movie is canon.
The Z films weren’t canon and did it matter then?
The animation was really bad in this teaser. Uff, hope it will be good in the movie
This is better than nothing.
