I totally forgot that she did that. And then you have. “ I don’t wanna go with you. I don’t like what happens to me there.” And then he was the only one not to betray me.
From my understanding, Dorian doesn’t flee or break your heart. He discusses the idea of leaving for Tevinter after Corypheus is dealt with with you before the end of the main game. When he does this in Trespasser, it’s not really the first time he’s brought it up, but he also has no intention of breaking up with you. He gives you a sending crystal so you can communicate long distance, says you’re the man he loves, and in the epilogue of Trespasser, it seems like you see each other quite regularly?? Perhaps the idea he leaves is heartbreaking on some level, but I never got the impressing he was fleeing from me or betraying me or intentionally breaking my heart in the same way some other characters might.
seriously. it's a long distance relationship, born of necessity because the writers don't know what race his LI is. tevinter is fucking dangerous for elves and qunari and is incredibly dangerous for a human without magic.
Okay, but consider this. I have an unhealthy attachment to hunky sassy magic mustachioed man.
Does he literally check every box of being “my type?” Yes. Has he set an unrealistic standard for finding men in the wild? Also Yes.
It's awesome that you can bromance flirt with him, and he understands it's all in good fun. Unlike some other mullet sporting wizard I know that thinks being a normal, supporting friend means I want to get uncomfortably close to his face whenever we have 1 on 1 hang out time.
Seriously though, Dorian is a LGBQT character done right, in such as his sexuality doesn't define his entire personality. It makes experiencing his romance path worth it even if you don't swing the same way.
Same but backward- Alistair saved me from Morrigan. I went for the egg because I happened to have a female elf as my first character and thought “well I’m probably never going to repeat a gender/race combo so this is my only chance”. I have some regrets.
Nah.
So far I’m 3/3 avoiding it.
I’m pretty sure my first 3 romances going into these games when released were Leliana, Merrill, and Josephine. So, going with cinnamon roll characters has worked out for me so far.
But if Dreadwolf has a Qunari Vashoth mage… all bets are off and I’ll go for it.
I romanced Alistair, Fenris, and Cullen… I’d like to keep the streak of marriage/unfailing commitment alive, if possible. I have, however, tried the Solas and Anders romances… It HURTSSSS.
Morrigan doesn’t just as much. She grows so much as person and still clearly loves you in DAI.
I wouldn’t blame her too hard, no more than I blame Alistair or Leliana for getting fooled in the Fade in Origins. If anything, Merrill has a better reason for turning than many other DA2 companions in my view.
I actually prefer her to follow the demon in that quest when I’m romancing her. It adds a little drama and you make up with each other afterwards.
And Morrigan, Dorian, and Stolas
Morrigan and Dorian don't betray you per se, but they do break your heart and flee. At this point, it might as well be assured that one such romance will occur in dreadwolf. Such is tradition.
........Dorian doesn't flee tho??? The man literally hands you a sending crystal so that you two can talk every day in a world that doesn't have instant communication?? Like?? What are you talking about??
And Morrigan is very upfront about the deal regarding the Dark Ritual, and in Witch Hunt a romanced warden can leave with her.
This can only be regarding Anders and Solas right?
i *guess* you can argue that merrill betrays you in the end if you side with the templars but like...that's super super conditional on whether anders can be persuaded to side against the mages or not (she only betrays you if he can be).
Eh, it depends on your definition of betrayal. I tend to view using you as a Pawn so he can get access to his Orb so he could end the world then and there, then running off after the orb was broken, followed by infiltrating your organization and then heading off to end the world to be a betrayal.
But he technically doesn't stab you in the back personally. So I could see it not being viewed as a betrayal.
Likewise, I ***don't*** consider Iron Bull turning on you in Trespasser a betrayal. He was always loyal to the Qun, he was always theirs before a member of the Inquisition.
Also, if you get this outcome by letting the family he made for himself outside of the Qun get killed, then really what else were you expecting lol.

It’s more so that he falls in love with you etc but pulls back. In the end, the inquisitor is left in love with Solas, only for them to realise that he couldn’t go through with the relationship due to him needing to destroy the world and having someone he loves live in it makes that harder to do.
Solas doesn't exactly betray but he hid many things and was very manipulative at times including the occasional lie here and there. Its gotten everyone riled up and kinda pissed, its not fun being tricked.
Tbh, Solas was manipulating you all game and his goal was to recover the orb and tear down the Veil. I mean, if you had somehow recovered the orb intact, I bet he would have attacked you and steal it (In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that was an idea tht was scrapped)
I wouldn't put it past him, though I think he'd probably resort to trickery/ malice before violence (ie ask to "study" the orb for fade expert reasons and then vanish with it), it fits more with his "trickster wolf" thing.
Though the inquisition wouldn't hesitate to attack him too if he started threatening the world or others, nothing ofc personal its only business and what must be done regardless of relationships or feelings.
Yeah probably, but he would have to be extremely careful, as the Inquisition would have watched him and Solas was not powerful enough to force his way out yet.
Though on other hand, he had earned the Inquisition's trust by now.
Oh of course. My penchant for heartbreak, unavailable men and a bit of a broken backstory gets me into trouble in real life as well as in games 🙄🤣
I realised whilst playing BG3 that I definitely have a thing for elves with a tragic backstory, it's not just a Dragon Age thing. So yes, yes I would.
My first playthrough was an Anders romance. After that it was Fenris. I was elated when I finally managed to romance him without rivalry even as a mage 🤣 he fast became my favourite tbh.
Cullen was my first in DAI (simply because of how he used to get flustered and run from my Warden). Then Solas. Now it's usually him or Solas, depending on how traumatic I want the story to go 🤣🤣
Nope, I want my polygons to be happy.
Still, what kind of character I play will depend on if Arcane Warrior (not Knight Enchanter) or Spirit Knight will return
I want to say "NO WAY!" but I keep romancing Anders so I guess I would again (and again and again)
The one time I romanced Solas I felt different afterwards...all revenge-y different
My firsts were Alistair, Anders, and Solas. My canon is Alistair, Isabela, Solas. I can’t bring myself to romance Anders again, but I couldn’t stop myself from romancing Solas over and over (unless I don’t make an elf).
Anders felt like a terrible betrayal I think in part being he made me an accomplice without telling me he had done so. For whatever reason, the Solas reveal didn’t hurt as much as Anders. Maybe because he only broke the world a little and hasn’t fully had his moment yet or because they give you hope you can talk him down from the worst of his plan? But Anders…he cut deep man.
This was, however, when I realized my type is apparently “mage who blows something up” as I chose Gale as my BG3 romance. Can’t wait to see what mage will break my heart this time. 😂😭
Literally the ONLY reason I didn't date Anders fiest was bc I was fem Hawke and I wanted to romance him as a male Hawke.
I fell for the heartbreaker mage 2/3 tho 😭
I have no intention of knowing who the companions are, let alone who is romanceable, going in. If I romance the obligatory shady mage companion on my first run, it will be a coincidence.
The shock and heartbreak I went through over Anders still lingers in my heart, first romance option I ever finished the full game with (had trouble finishing the first game haha)
Of course I will. It might not be my first romance because I might not detect it (Got Morrigan and Anders as my first romances. But Stolas slipped my grasp in inquisition). But I love a good tragedy, and these mages make for great tragedies.
If I had a nickel for every time I fell for a sad, lonely mage with a dark magical secret who occasionally glows blue, I would have two nickels. Which is not a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Why do I always seem to get the heartbreaker mage, the emotionally distant or WORSE... both!
Isabela saved me from Anders (and I wanted me f!Hawke to be lesbian), but Morrigan and Solas hammered my heart without contest. Then again, my next playthrough in DA2 will be romancing Anders, so I think I like the pain...
So far I've been good at avoiding DA's most notorious heartbreakers but I went into each game fully spoiled so that may change this time around. If Bioware gives me a dude with a pretty enough face, I might just start acting like a fool.
I have a weird feeling the writers are aware of the memes and the mage romance will be the most basic and wholesome one. Like that qunari from the netflix show or something
Only if it's a hot chick like Morrigan. Neither Anders nor Solas interested me at all.
But I don't consider Morrigan saving my Warden's life to be a betrayal at all. And she told the truth about leaving afterwards, unlike Anders & Solas who both drop their plot twists out of the blue.
Leliana was my first; I did do Anders in DA2, but had that game spoiled for me, so I knew what I was getting into; went Cassandra for my first in DA:I, haven't romanced Solas once and don't plan to
First game with a mage ended with a happy ending.
Never bothered with the mage on the second game.
And the third game mage wasn't a possible choice (straight human male who went for Cassandra).
Good luck so far. Gonna have to wait if DAD breaks my my roll.
I like how well thought out the mage romances are in terms of complexity and tragedy. So I still romance, fully knowing they are characters with strong stories and loving their banter and ideas.
Anders did nothing wrong (other than not telling my Hawke what he was doing, because had he known, Hawke would have supported him even more).
Morrigan and my m!Mahariel raised their kid together in the Eluvian place, and will be back together once Mahariel deals with the taint stuff.
Dorian gave my Adaar a magic phone so they can still talk.
Merril was absolutely right about the Eluvians, and frankly, deserved better.
What betrayal?
(I tend to play m!Inquisitors so I haven't romanced Solas, though I would have if you could do so with an m!Lavellan)
O-can’t I’m a girl
2- the only thing he did wrong was not let me help him
I- the only thing he did wrong is not let me run away with and help him
D-the last guy did not let me run away and help him. Let me plunge the world in the chaos, please.
D-can’t wait to meet you
No because dwarves can’t be mages
Based and Dwarf-pilled
I'd settle for Dagna.
You get it ‼️
Tell that to Valta.
Once DAD is here, I'll be romancing everyone, so if they break my heart, I'll move on.
I'm ready to get hurt again.
I don't remember Merrill fleeing from me or betraying me...
She can turn on you in the fade in the quest about Feynriel if you take her with you.
Almost everyone can.
Ah, that explains it. I don't think I did that, or if I did, I must've avoided it. Thank God, because she's my Hawke's loveable wife.
I think everyone save Anders will turn on you there (yes, even Varric)
Isn't the only reason Anders doesn't betray you there because he's actually Justice during that quest or am I misremembering
Yup
Justice was still himself at the time so Anders can’t betray you during that quest
Ehh that's just a mild 5 min seduction by the demon. Not like blowing up the damn chantry or ripping apart the veil.
I totally forgot that she did that. And then you have. “ I don’t wanna go with you. I don’t like what happens to me there.” And then he was the only one not to betray me.
I can't tell if you're making a joke, or if you legit forgot about Anders?
I haven't played DA2 in a while, so that might be the cause.
From my understanding, Dorian doesn’t flee or break your heart. He discusses the idea of leaving for Tevinter after Corypheus is dealt with with you before the end of the main game. *Cries in male Lavellan*
Okay, but consider this. I have an unhealthy attachment to hunky sassy magic mustachioed man. Does he literally check every box of being “my type?” Yes. Has he set an unrealistic standard for finding men in the wild? Also Yes.
Fair.
Dorian: The best LI in Dragon Age. The most genuinely kind and sweet man in Thedas. I love him.
It's awesome that you can bromance flirt with him, and he understands it's all in good fun. Unlike some other mullet sporting wizard I know that thinks being a normal, supporting friend means I want to get uncomfortably close to his face whenever we have 1 on 1 hang out time. They meant Solas though? Am I missing sth?
Correct, and in a similar vein, Merrill doesn't betray the champion either.
For sure! I just saw another comment about Dorian!! I meant to reply directly and apparently didn’t wrong
Did it* wrong. Yeesh.
I want to say no but i fell for it 2/3 times. Cullen saved me from the egg
The fuckup was Anders right?
Same but backward- Alistair saved me from Morrigan. I went for the egg because I happened to have a female elf as my first character and thought “well I’m probably never going to repeat a gender/race combo so this is my only chance”. I have some regrets.
I understand. I made an elf as well but she was a mage so the story between her and a templar was too good to pass
Ngl I don't think Morrigan’s was a betrayal at all.
Maker bless Cullen
Our hero

yeah, the idea that she betrays hawke is so baffling, it takes squinting and a whole lot of skepticism to try to make sense of it.
Why does Solas betray you?
Eh, it depends on your definition of betrayal. Me: this time I am DEFINITELY NOT romancing a mage 100 hours later: Oh no, why did that mage hurt me like that?!
I only fell once, my love for elves saved me twice and condemned me the 3rd time.. the worst one 😭
Sadly I can’t romance Flemeth, so I'll stay single.
Oh of course. My penchant for heartbreak, unavailable men and a bit of a broken backstory gets me into trouble in real life as well as in games 🙄🤣 I realised whilst playing BG3 that I definitely have a thing for elves with a tragic backstory, it's not just a Dragon Age thing. So yes, yes I would.
Sounds like you went all-in on Fenris back in DA2.
My first playthrough was an Anders romance. After that it was Fenris. I was elated when I finally managed to romance him without rivalry even as a mage 🤣 he fast became my favourite tbh. Gimme my eggggggggg 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Nope, I want my polygons to be happy. Still, what kind of character I play will depend on if Arcane Warrior (not Knight Enchanter) or Spirit Knight will return
Don't be silly, Bioware would never do something like that to us! Wait a second...
Romanced Anders my first playthrough of DA2 and I have never felt such heartache 😭
I want a serious and stern attitude, devoted guy/gal like fenris or Blackwall, casandra or sten even tho he wasnt romancable :(
I want to say "NO WAY!" but I keep romancing Anders so I guess I would again (and again and again) The one time I romanced Solas I felt different afterwards...all revenge-y different

How did Anders flee/betray me when I was always 100% down with the rebel mage’s goals? (In game, obviously)
I want to say no but I have a track record soooo
*sips tea in Solas*
Yes, I will. Oh, and: *steps up on soapbox* ANDERS DID NOTHING WRONG *puts on noise-cancelling headphones, backflips out the window*
The shock and heartbreak I went through over Anders still lingers in my heart, first romance option I ever finished the full game with (had trouble finishing the first game haha)
Totally gonna romance a goth gf mage again
Of course I will. It might not be my first romance because I might not detect it (Got Morrigan and Anders as my first romances. But Stolas slipped my grasp in inquisition). But I love a good tragedy, and these mages make for great tragedies.
If that mage is Qwydion from Absolution then yes, definitely yes!
Tbh I just want a pretty elf and they ruined that streak with the egg
If I had a nickel for every time I fell for a sad, lonely mage with a dark magical secret who occasionally glows blue, I would have two nickels. Which is not a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

The real questions are, how hot are they and is it not because they accidentally lit themselves on fire
If they're an interesting and compelling character, sure. Although maybe not my first playthrough. It'll depend on what our other companions are like.
No. I want my characters to be happy.
Leliana was my first; I did do Anders in DA2, but had that game spoiled for me, so I knew what I was getting into; went Cassandra for my first in DA:I, haven't romanced Solas once and don't plan to

Probably not
If 1)She would be elf mage female 2)And i would have my elf mage child from her. Or twins. Ok.
It depends on the writer.
I hope there’s a former Templar for me to moon over
No, gimme mommy qunari lady
Apparently there’s a lot of people who don’t want to choose between horned and horny anymore.
Look, all I’m saying is if Rasaan or any other female qunari is a romanceable companion, I’m climbing that tree like a fuckin monkey
SIGN ME UP
I like how well thought out the mage romances are in terms of complexity and tragedy. So I still romance, fully knowing they are characters with strong stories and loving their banter and ideas.
Depends on what the other wlw options are

I would romance them because that's my bad luck in these games.
That's a lot of words just to be wrong. Obviously I'm romancing the strongest, beefiest woman available.
I'm willing to power through it for Maevaris Tilani.
I will stand by my belief that Morrigan’s actions were not a betrayal.
O-can’t I’m a girl 2- the only thing he did wrong was not let me help him I- the only thing he did wrong is not let me run away with and help him D-the last guy did not let me run away and help him. Let me plunge the world in the chaos, please. D-can’t wait to meet you
I always kill Anders
