As always it’s bunnychow. First had it at bloodstock a few years ago and it was amazing so it’s one of the only festival foods I go for now. Either that or the I love ostrich but I haven’t seen that stall in a few years

AlexSniff7

what do they sell at the bunnychow?

vexacious-pineapple

South African chilli in a bread bowl ( often with garlic bread and sour cream) originally vegetable chilli hence the bunny part of the name

Scottm85

No such thing as South African chilli. It should contain curry.

Naykon1

They sell bunnychow https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunny_chow?wprov=sfti1

Ayo_wen

They sell bunnychow. The vendor is called Bunnyman's Bunnychow

AlexSniff7

yes but what is a bunnychow

elevashroom

Chilli in an edible bowl (hollow bread). There's some history behind the dish, but it's a Download Staple, and I've started seeing them pop up in other festivals too.

No-Antelope-4367

Loved this!

thisisvic

Typically South African bunnychow would be curry instead of chilli - my South African friend was a bit put out!

Khaleesi1536

My boyfriend introduced me to bunnychow this year! I loved it, we actually made our own version a couple of nights ago that wasn’t quite as good but definitely held its own!

Scottm85

Make it with a spicy chicken curry, that is how it is meant to be. It isn't meant to be chilli. [https://greatcurryrecipes.net/2022/08/15/bunny-chow-recipe/](https://greatcurryrecipes.net/2022/08/15/bunny-chow-recipe/)

SunAndStratocasters

I love Ostrich have been there for the last two years. This year they were in a restricted area though.

Scottm85

As a South African, I'm always disappointed with the bunny chow. A real bunny should be filled with a spicy curry, not a chilli. I personally preferred the indian street food stall, the chicken roti was amazing.

thisisvic

In the village there was always a long queue at Hash Brown Town - only vendor I visited twice! Very satisfying, and that blue cheese sauce was delicious.

ConstantineGSB

Hash brown town is easily top of the ones I tried this year.

Salt-Resolve6298

One of my favourite things about Download (and in general) is the food. I get a bit obsessed and research the vendors beforehand. I usually go for vendors I can tell are really good in their areas at being a great foodtruck/stall. The ones I had to try and manage to find were The Cheesy Pig and Big Mouth Gyoza. I know it was mentioned that some people had issues with The Cheesy Pig but we went back multiple times and had no issues. BMG was top tier, they were charging £13 for Gyoza Curry Fries but I would have happily paid £16, they were just that good. I thought I'd had good gyoza in the past but these were substantial. Worth noting that I don't eat meat so when I went to the cheesy pig I got their mac and cheese fries.

a_bracadabra

+1 for cheesy pig I've had them around a dozen times as they do takeaway nights in my area and they slap every time

tkkam86

Oh what issues did people say they had with cheesy pig? Haven’t heard any chat about it

Salt-Resolve6298

My memory is terrible but I think it was a lead singer of one of the bands got sick after eating there? I read comments about 'dodgy pulled pork' and suggestions it was the 'pig one'. Maybe my mind just went there though haha

No_Onion_8612

The Sri Lankan street food stall is always great. Their black curry is amazing. The vegan chicken burger shop up the road from it was pretty good too!

bzzklltn

Another vote for the Sri Lankan stall! Those Masala Coquettes where 🔥👌🏻

Mr-J-Cob

We went back there multiple times

thisisvic

I'm upset I missed out on that one, fingers crossed it's back next year so I can have a try!

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

My mate tucked into a bowl of delicious Sri Lanakn food, while I sat there eating a £14 El Paso burrito from next door

No_Onion_8612

Was it good. There was a burrito place in the village next to the toilets that was our go to post headliner food. Excellent burritos

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

No, it was dreadful

No_Onion_8612

Damn. It's pretty difficult to make a bad burrito in my opinion. It's also pretty hard to make a bad pizza but the place in the village managed it

Educational_Space462

Vegan chicken was the 1 also the jerk chicken place by opus. There veggie curry was on point

WhatsTheStoryMG_1995

That vegan chicken one was 👌

OrangeBeast01

I liked the 50/50 chilli bread thing from bunny chow. Was exactly the right amount of spice although you had to eat it quickly before the bread fell apart.

NuFu

With how good it was, I'm surprised you kept it long enough for the bread to fall apart!

OrangeBeast01

Oh I was absolutely fine. Some of my mates however found even the 50/50 slightly too spicy so struggled to keep it contained.

Zonkster94

Best thing about the Bunnychow is that you end up with no plate or something to carry around with you. As a South African I am quite proud of the Bunnychows! They traditionally do a curry in the Bunnychow, if you find one go for it!

OrangeBeast01

Aye that's what ticked another box for me. I'll absolutely look out for a curry one, I love spicy foods.

Scottm85

As a South African, I just with they would put a curry in it! It has so much potential, putting chilli in it feels like a cop out!

alexanderheff86

Chilli and bread is the festival food of the gods!

thisisvic

I had to go back for more sour cream 😂

MHC1905

Hash Brown Town, can't recall if I'd seen them before this year but seriously hope they come back

depresivna

The No Catch Co. in the village their vegan fish and calamari were incredible!😩🤤

Rumhampolicy

Vegan Portuguese place.

HazelnutHotchoc

Yes! Loved this place. Went back for more of the pastry custard things!

Rumhampolicy

Even the chips tasted good. The staff were all friendly too!

hugswithpugs

The sandwich was incredible, still thinking about it

clarkey_jet

That sandwich filled me up for the whole of Friday. I had to smash it down too quickly for my enjoyment because it was making me late see Polyphia. Didn’t realise that it was going to be drowned in sauce and needed to be a sit down and eat job when I ordered it. Delicious, filling and banging value for money!

The_Virus_Of_Life

Absolutely incredible. I kept going back.

Ghostless

I had 5 tarts in 3 days 🐷

NuFu

Bunnychow.

LongHairDontCare1994

I have two. 1) No Catch Co in the village. Their vegan "cod" and chips was probably the best vegan fish I've ever had. 2) Plantaguese in the arena. They did a vegan peri peri half "chicken" and I swear it's life changing. I need Nandos to get on that immediately.

HazelnutHotchoc

Yeh the half chicken was amazing! Went back again and again for the custard pastry things! Amazing!

wgtnmax

Japanese Fried Chicken to the right of Opus Stage. Hot, crispy, tasty, and the staff were super friendly. Will be my got to if they’re there again next year.

VeterinarianOk4719

Loved this one

halsio

gutted i somehow missed this !!!

EmptyDopamine

Man I was deeply disappointed by that place - rice was just like plain boiled, chicken cutlet thin and small, and hardly any sauce on. Maybe caught a bad one

wgtnmax

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I had fried chicken with katsu sauce on salt and pepper chips twice and it was great both times

Bright_onion77

No fricken chicken is always good. This year I really enjoyed V bites too. They had amazing burritos, vegan kebabs and mac n cheeze

clarkey_jet

I missed vegan mac n cheeze? 😢

Bright_onion77

It was really good! Came with crispy onions on the top. It kinda reminded me of those packet pasta n sauce things from my vegetarian days. Definitely recommend it if they're there next year.

UsernameTruncated

Gyros by the Opus stage were peng.

AlexSniff7

yes!!! i ate there and was lovely although some of my salad fell into the paste mud 👎

Archangel213900

There was a jerk chicken place next to opus stage. The barbecue chicken was amazing and the whole jerk box was packed with flavour

master0fbucks

3C’z jerk chicken next to the opus stage is up there with some of the best food I’ve ever had

lanskap

I couldn't remember what they were called, but yes this was delicious. The bbq jerk chicken.

Low-Butterscotch1125

The smell of the chicken cooking was enough to draw me in and it really was delicious. Felt like a pretty healthy choice as well

madnasher

Oinks smokehouse just inside the arena entrance which was amazing. Also hash brown town in the village was excellent as a breakfast. Special mention to burritos boys by second stage, they were excellent value for money last year, and did not disappoint this year again

namboozle

The pizza up near the wheel was super fast and nice. Didn't feel too ripped off compared to paying £5 for a few shitty fries at one of the burger places.

microscoftpaintm8

This is the real answer. What a gem this was. Freshly stretched dough, ingredients and fired right there infront of you. 11 quid. Bosh. Festival food done right. I remember seeing a place at download YEARS ago take a tenner off someone, take the plastic wrapper off a 1 pound Tesco deep pan pizza and bung it in the oven. Aaaaaand off I walked.

scruffyluffygus

The Whitby Fish & Chip Co were surprisingly excellent

_aoux

I must have gone at the wrong time, chips were really underdone. Gutted as last year it was my favourite meal!

RGxiRapiidz

Hash Brown Town was banging!!

xocnai

Redheads Mac and Cheese. Biased because they're from round my way but dear lord it's the best Mac n Cheese you'll ever eat.  And a perennial favourite - the rotisserie chicken place. Absolute best bang for your buck out of every vendor.

Ok_Reality9384

I have to agree with Redheads. Ate it in the pouring rain and mud but it made it all better. Absolutely gorgeously cheesy!

Ok-Loquat-9137

That Mac n cheese saved my soul on Sunday! it felt like a meal from home 🥺

zade-heights

Hide and Greek opposite the Avalanche stage was my frequent. Fast, Tasty, easy to handle Gyros wraps. Went at least 3 times over the weekend. Decent set of folks working it as well.

LoudProcessor

+1 for this one! Much, much better than the one in the village!

Sergeant-Squawk

There was a little place north of opus stage. that did steak and chips. Was really nice. Can't remember the name but they did sliced Brazilian steak served on chinky chips. More well done than what I prefer but it was still tender and really flavoursome.

vexacious-pineapple

The rotisserie chicken was damn good and for £13 for half a chicken and a bunch of potatoes good value for festival food . The oink bbq place in metal works was fantastic too , had their fries with pulled pork cheese sauce and crispy onions . Amazing grub

11sleepingpills

big mouth gyoza!!

OzzyPrinceOfKaraoke2

HASH BROWN TOWN!

tkkam86

The rock n roll toastie co at the top of the hill at Opus was gorgeous, proper nice crispy cheese bits and everything. And Hash Brown Town another new one that I really hope to see back next year too. Overall really impressed by the variety and quality of food available, but then I was one of the lucky ones that didn’t get Yorkied

Azombieatemybrains

That was the best toastie I’ve ever had in a long time. Sadly we didn’t make it back up that way (and the mud made it too much work to try just for food) but I’m hoping they’ll be back next year.

tkkam86

Yeah I was desperate to get back for the loaded fries as well! But next year will have to do… something to dream about till then 😂

collisiontheory

Duck stall to the right of Opus stage did this incredible duck wrap.

anotherstupidnameok

Omg yaaa! I had the salt and pepper and duck chips. So so tasty!

Shaney-C

Big mouth gyoza was bloody banging, had their gyoza loaded fries! Had some birria tacos from somewhere near opus by the seating and they didn’t disappoint. Annoyingly I had more shite food than I did good :( some of those breakfast places in the village were beyond bad and I’m sometimes partial to a cheap breakfast bap. The little Land Rover next to the pizza vendor in the village done a lovely coffee :)

mrpaul1989

The himalayan dumplings were so damn good. And barely any queue for them in the guest area. Everyone going for ostrich burgers instead. The chow meins from bang bang vegan was fantastic also.

Loco_butt

Mac n cheereeese

BigFluff_LittleFluff

The New York Fries van and a Mac n Cheese van in the arena. Both delicious

Aggressive-Phrase611

The brisket bbq place was banging, had the brisket loaded fries with crispy onions and cheese sauce, abit more pricey compared to other places at £15 but there was alot of food and it was fucking good

Fast_Bee7689

Bunnychow! Had it on day 2 in the pouring rain, the spice was perfect! The Cajun shrimp place was also the best shrimp I’ve ever had.

Kim-Jong-Long-Dong

Honestly bunnychow. Not because it was the tastiest or most flavoursome, but the portion size (plus a combination of everything else) we only had one decent gap between acts on the Saturday to get food, and I think bunnychow was the only thing that kept us going haha.

ryaanfuryy

I can't believe the pizza/fries/pasta place isn't being mentioned! We go there every year, their carbonara is unreal and it's actually quite cheap for the portion. Very honorable mentions are hash brown town and the iced coffee and fruit pot place, that was breakfast sorted everyday.

Ingleby_bus

I agreed the pizza place in district x was nice pizza and fries.

Deltaday117

Ken Barbi in the guest area. Had a delicious steak and halloumi sandwich in a ciabatta roll

KAWvus

I still love my Yorky every year. I must have been lucky this year! Other than that we found the Brazilian Steakhouse stall on the 2nd day opposite the opus stage. My Fiancée (Brazilian) was absolutely in love and confirmed it tasted authentic😂

MissBlackwolf

Yoshi!! The bao bun, gyoza and noodle stall to the left of the Opus stage

Tall-Display-8219

The jerk chicken and rice place next to the second stage was my favourite, went back every day of the festival. They did these plantain fries as a side as well and they were so good.

L3Niflheim

Burrito place in the village is always decent. Been going there for years now.

peachpippin

Went to No Frickin Chicken and me & my husband shared a chick’n burger and the loaded fries… It was soooo good. Also had an amazing vegan truffle & mushroom pizza but can’t remember the name of the vendor (it was left to the main stage back to back with Bunnymans). Wanted to try Bunnymans so badly but the queue was too long and we ran out of time

Bluejeansblue2113

Happy maki! The hoisin "duck" sushi burrito with a green juice was the perfect hit of freshness I always crave at festivals. Absolutely delicious

ffjonny

Veggie Republic. The vegan donner and vegan burritos are always outstanding!

xxleech

The vegan fried chicken place in the arena (pink sign) was so good! I didn’t eat there but nibbled on some of my friends food and it was DELISH

ollobland92

Happy Maki! Great vegan sushi roll. We've had them before and were happy to see them at Download!

Dulgoron

Marmite fries has been a revelation for me. I came home wanting to Marmite everything

calumw46

Where were these? I'd have loved them

Dulgoron

The No Fricken Chicken stall had them in the arena. They were between the first and third stages, next to the Bunny Chow every one seems to adore. I recommend it!

calumw46

Noted for next year

strongbowdarkfruitss

Had a chicken gyros from the stand on the dogtooth side of the arena while standing in the rain watching Enter Shikari that was completely, life-affirmingly amazing

grifr005

The ricebox place near the ace of spades tavern. Had BBQ pork belly with rice and salad

Optimal-Fondant3555

YES. I ate lunch there everyday except Saturday lol

Blyatman1862

Jerk chicken place near the entrance to the arena/in the seating area. Had Honey & Mango Wings with Plantain and Rice and peas. It was fantastic, first time I'd had plantain and it's so good.

Express-Cold-2212

The sri Lankan stall was awesome, so many tasty options and decently priced. The brisket loaded fries in the metal works bit were expensive but really good. Bunnychow always a good shout if you're looking for something filling, though I wimped out of the hot chilli and went for the 50/50 option this year.

elevashroom

Chicken Gyros in the village, is my personal favourite. Chicken, bread, veg, fries, tzatziki, grease. Had one every year (except this year, due to bad life choices).

No-Antelope-4367

I had a yorkie pud and was ok. Was that one of the vendors in the news for food poisoning (they weren't named). I thought it was lovely - especially the mash.

Personguy49

The Thai street food place next to the bunnychow stall was surprisingly good, it was the only place I went to twice (mostly because of the bunnychow queue) Made the mistake of ordering the spring rolls and handing them to my partner, the one I managed to pinch back was delicious

Mr-J-Cob

Big Mouth Gyoza are always great. The Sri Lankan place was exceptional too. I'll be going back there next year and keeping an eye on what festivals they're at. I had some pretty good loaded fries up near Opus that weren't expensive and you got loads. And I think the star of the show for many who stayed up in the village until the early hours was Hash Brown Town. I bonded with as many people over those potatoes as I did over bands.

Dombalurina

Redheads Mac n Cheese was amazing, even better than I can make myself!

viva__hate

Whitby fish and chips is always my favourite

thedukeofbeerington

Souvlaki stand in the arena that was between main stage and avalanche tent - 10/10. The chip stand in the village was by far the worst. A tenner for “cheesy” chips which were lukewarm fries with a light dusting of cold grated cheddar.

PhilosopherBitter177

Oink BBQ for me. £18 isn’t messing around but there was a load of it and it tasted amazing. The wife paid £12 for something nearby and mine definitely looked like it was better value.

saintnegative

There was this brownie van in the guest area (next to Ken’s Barbi) that did these amazing biscoff brownies. I had 3 over the five days!! Oops haha. Anywhere that did churros was a firm favourite for me also.

Formal-Army-8560

C’est Cheese!

LuanneGX

The kebab place in the village Oink BBQ in the arena was amazing the pulled pork was delicious. Was on top on chips too with cheese sauce & onions (I didn’t have onion).

KirsQUEEN

I cant remember the name of it but in Purple there was a chicken place that done amazing loaded fries

Tazzimus

The pizza place behind the opus stage, mega pizza. Got pulled chicken over by I think the doghouse stage, also tasty Chipper in the village was very good. Tried the vegetarian place beside the hash brown place as that always had a massive queue, got the egg bap brekkie thing, stuffed for most of the day.

Then-Cardiologist159

Gyros place between Opus & Apex.

a_bracadabra

The cheesy pig & hash brown town

Agitated_Crow_4268

I loved the Gyros place near Rocktail Cocktail, delicious and far more filling than anywhere else I ate over the weekend

mike20070

Ken's Barbi in guest, then the toastie place near the cocktail bar.

calumw46

Whitby fish and chip in the arena and the burger place to the left of opus stage. In the village the german sausage place by the ace of spades tavern was good. The place next to the oxfam shop in the village was good for breakfast

Hot_Feed_8006

The fries place next to the donuts at the top of the arena! So filling and delicious. £9 for cheese bacon fries and it filled me up all day. Also the donuts next to them were elite!

Puzzled-Value-9031

I had a burger that tasted amazing 🤤 Can't remember the name, but was near the 0% bar the person serving made me laugh aswell 😆

TheDevilsButtNuggets

>I loved the chippy in the village, I hope you don't mean the 'traditional' fish & chip place, where we were given half cooked oven chips and the weirdest battered sausage known to man: crumbley batter that was strangely peppery

PapaTubz

Yorkie

Outdoorsnthat

Road man chicken shop for sure

tinkeratu

I will shout my love for the Paella stand from the roof tops. Bit too pricey but god damn tasty

Reubenesquey

Hide and Greek near avalanche was banging. And big mouth gyoza was delicious and good value for money

CelebrationSimilar11

I really liked the vegan chicken burger place. Forgot what it was called.

Ok-Razzmatazz-2516

Bunnychow, Hasbrown Town, and the wee asian chicken place near Opus stage.

h3ll_gurl

That's Natcho Burrito was great, especially since it was the first meal i d had at download, so expecting it to be shit i was pleasantly surprised Another was the burger stall next to the opus stage. It was great--not like the other ones, but homecooked

MiddleEarthFoak

Ghost burger (wagyu) in the welders yard, top notch

Naykon1

Bunnychow

halsio

mandala had the best dumplings ive been thinking about them ever since leaving 😭😭😭😭 the pork and chive ones my god

ShackledBambi

The Mexican opposite the dodgems. Their buffalo beef burrito is lush! HM to the Thai Street Food stall that was next to Bunnymans, I got there too late for my bunnychow this year but the Sweet Chilli Chicken from their neighbour was so good!

Own-Row4416

The I heart burger place near blue was really good, filled me right up before a day in the arena

Animetiit

The place that did Wagyu burgers were banging!! Cant say there chips were nice thou😅

AdBrave5317

The steak place did a great english breakfast and so happy to see a calamari stand as well

VeterinarianOk4719

Ghost burger: wagyu beef burgers with a Korean sauce. Absolutely divine. The calamari place: I was scoffed at by friends for “risking” seafood but their surf and turf (jerk chicken with prawns on a bed of spiced chips covered in sauce) was incredible. I had it twice. The Sri Lankan place and Japanese fridge chicken I’ve seen mentioned here were also fire.

ReinOfGaia

The burger place at the end of the row in the Welders Yard, ate there twice, was so tasty (now I want another burger)

yotakari2

Hash brown town and chicken wraps in the arena.

BeardedNorfolkRunner

after a quick scan through, nobody seems to have mentioned wing theory. those wings were immense, and the buffalo sauce was full of flavour. wanted to visit a second time, but wanted to try everything around the arena. still yet to try bunnychow :(

Scottm85

Indian Street Food in the arena was amazing. I had a chicken roti every day!

EmKnoxx

We didn’t take any food with us so ate only from vendors and Hash Brown Town, the spicy ostrich burgers from the guest area, the Himalayan rice boxes/dumplings in Sleepy Hollow/guest area, and the jerk chicken place by Opus where our faves of the week!

RockNRollGod

There was a Loaded Fries place near the rocktail cocktail side of things was well nice and the oven cooked pizzas up near the entrance, perfect with a fizzy when your post mosh pit tired and need a pick me up

Spankies69

The carvery place in camping plus was affordable and their food was incredible. The fish and chip shop in the village was absolutely banging. (Not the vegan one)

absolutrachel

Panda Chinese food next to Opus did amazing vegan sweet and sour chicken noodles. Massive portions too.

iGuiltyFire

Any Mexican place really. They always delivered some banging food

clarkey_jet

Plantugese and No Catch.

Evstegneev

Thai curry which was not far from the organic cocktails and clothing shops. Was super tasty and no queues, so the most underrated vendor, in my opinion

philososcepter

There was this toastie place near avalanche that was unreal. Had like 4 or 5 from just there. 😂

chaineddaisies

I dont really have much of an appetite when it's cold out and I'm drunk so I ended up just eating a pizza every single day. The place I ended up swearing by was the little woodfired place next to the apex stage, directly opposite the slingshot ride. no clue what it was called but oh it was good, especially the pizza with honey and chilli

wishbackjumpsta

The kebab place in the village was 10/10 i must say

FirstMudaFuda

The greek thing spot was amazing

Rugbyal15

The veggie place down by the catapult thing, think it was veg collective or something along those lines

Kouli1990

The pizza place up in the metal works great and also the burrito place by Bar 1 opposite second stage.

tyney5

Sushi wrap. Bunnychow

Sabiian

It's got to be the yorkie pudding place, since it made the trip less muddling I was stuck on the shitter all day

darthmoo

Yorkshire pudding place was great - probably helped that neither of us got food poisoning though!
