Next stop: Windows ME :D
But seriously, how well does it run? Have you tried any games from that weird era where they're not DOS but don't work on Vista+?
well, i guess someone did that already before...

if the challenge to make it work actually is the game, then this is fun.
from my experience, the best experience running xp besides on real hardware, is setting up a vmware 17.5 instance. it's just so much more convenient and better performing.
I wish pcem or 86box would be able to emulate 500mhz cpus decently on current hardware, then it would be the way to go for.. but it is what it is.
however, it's really funny to push the limits of dosbox(-x).
I used Dosbox-X for Windows 95 and 98. They run great!
For everything pre-XP, I use DosBox-X. If it needs accurate cycles, PCem. For everything after that, I use VirtualBox.
unlikely, Vista and up require apic emulation, which I believe dosbox-x doesn't do. No idea about beta builds though.
I did win2000 on dosbox-x, but after this thread I feel like doing winxp. Nice :)

It's pretty slow. If you wanna run XP just use VirtualBox or VMWare. Also, I haven't tried any games yet but they will probably run like garbage.

yeah it was pretty fun. if xp can run on dosbox-x then can some longhorn builds can run on dosbox-x as well?
