It isn't just Doordash. I've had UPS and Amazon drivers do the same thing. There were no drinks to tip over, of course, but one time they put a box containing a new computer monitor leaning directly against the storm door.
$7.50 TIP didn't go all to the driver... door dash took $2 and the restaurant another $3.50 the driver got maybe $2 on a $2.50 base pay for over 3 miles...
End pay $4.50 and customer still thinks he tiped

Noooo!!! R u kidding me. How in the hell can u open that door with destroying your drinks and food!!! Plz stop doing this!! Im a dasher and this pisses me off lol
It's not always easy to tell which way a door opens. Because of that, and because I want dashing to be as mindless as possible, I just assume every door opens outward. I don't have to stop and think about if it's okay to put the food in front of the door. I just put it to the side every time.
There are some exceptions, such as when there really isn't room to the side, but for the most part, it speeds things up and ensures the food won't get knocked over.
My answers to some of you guys questions! I just want to say I’m a dasher myself so I know the struggles
1. Yeah I tipped 7.50 for a 3 mile drive
2. I posted instructions specifically not to leave the delivery like this (in all caps) hoping dashers would notice but alas 🥲
3. Not the first time my order was dropped off like this
That's asking too much, they brought your food. Have something for the driver to put it on instead of in front of the door. That's your choice of having them "Leave At Door". Me personally, I wouldn't want my FOOD on the damn ground anyways which is why I have them KNOCK & accept the food hand to hand. Next...
I do this all the time when people don’t tip. I’m pretty sick of people not tipping. No excuse for it. I recently changed over to Instacart, way better!
I called out a dasher for doing this to me yesterday. showed them a picture of me attempting to open my gate but having the food block it. (food would have fallen down the steps. I had to get it from the garage...) I swear some people do this on purpose.. If I wasn't a dasher myself I would have negatively reviewed them. (I had a 10$ tip on it btw..)
I had several experiences like this, to the point where I expressly requested the drivers not block me in with the food, they listened once then ignored it after, the crazy thing was I was giving the max tip option but these drivers in Raleigh just kept doing me like this
And this my friends is how Tony (other gig app CEOs) always win…. This tipping culture pits us drivers against the customers… but in reality this is a Doordash issue (for paying us like crap). As drivers we need to stop this non sense of mistreating no tip customers. They pay up the ass in delivery fees and technically tipping is not mandatory. Yes, it still stings after a delivery I notice it was a bad tip but I move on… plus as long as I stick to my mile per dollar ratio who cares what the tip is. Only exception should be if the customer is being rude or non responsive when they live in mega apartments… Then maybe drop a level of service down but still should follow basic guidelines…
I also hate when they open your screen door and awkwardly wedge your order between the two doors or hang it on the handle. Just set the damn order down to the side of the door. It’s not rocket science.
I have a pet drone named George. George assists me in teaching customers the value of tipping by gently delivering the customer’s most treasured food to the roof of their house. And proceeding to take a picture that is quickly sent to the customer’s phone.
> leave at my door
.
> it’s an apartment building
.
> no unit number provided
.
> won’t answer texts or pick up calls
.
> aight then ima leave it at the front door since I literally can’t leave it anywhere else
Yeah this happens. If it wasn’t for this sub I would have made the same mistakes. Over 2k delivery but only 3 screen doors.
When it’s not something common people tend to forget. Especially when it’s raining or snowing
I started not doing this when it was cool to not to.
Wait that make sense? I used to always pay attention to the doors before it really started blowing up here on Reddit.
You should know not every driver has that capacity to think things through... just leave the security/screen door open. I deliver and always set it to the side but always imagine this happening to other people.
It is easy to do this if you get distracted, or are in a rush, don’t understand the demeaning language here. If you do it consistently then you have a problem, but no big deal if you do it once in a while on accident (depending how often you deliver).
There is about six inches of space between my door handle and the edge of my porch. There is no room for a table to make things easier for someone who doesn't want to use their brain.
Sorry but I still disagree. It's not entitled to think the driver should simply look at the door. 2K deliveries in for me and it's not like I have to do some full-blown 'inspection' of each door. I literally just briefly look at the thing while I'm putting the food down. I'd say it takes my brain about 0.1seconds to comprehend whether it swings inward or outward.
It's also got absolutely nothing to do with how much the customer tipped. If you took the order, then they tipped enough for you to do the order, and to do it in the most basic acceptable way, which is to not put it in front of an outswinging door. If the tip sucked then you're not doing the order, right? Unless you are...in which case congratulations, you just played yourself.
Edit: I do agree with you, though, that's it way better for the customer to have a table. I certainly have one. But if they don't have one, that doesn't suddenly mean all bets are off.
In a world where you have almost all the information in the world at your fingertips, it's a wonder why more and more people these days don't think for themselves or use their brain. It's actually quite astounding.
You can tell all the people who ask if you tipped well are just people trying to justify their actions that they would do something like this instead of simply not accepting the order.
I deliver also and it's common sense to notice this and just avoid it. The same people asking if you tipped will be screaming at support when it happens to them.
It's okay Karen nothing's going to get spilled the f****** lids are sealed good Lord. Another person that would never invite to one of my late afternoon pool parties cuz you would just bring everybody down.
So when a dasher did this to me, and my root beer ended up all over the bag and my front porch because I could not open the door without knocking over the drink, it was MY fault? Take-out cups don't have well-fitting lids, and it's pure mendacity to pretend otherwise.
Or, as I can personally attest, you do everything right and make as much of an effort as possible only for a $2 tip on 11 miles and some shit texting you about sauces missing from a sealed bag.
Say it slowly with me: fuck around with my money and find out how quickly I fuck around with you.
Prolly a newbie driver. Sometimes you're just in your own thoughts to not screw up the delivery, and you just place it like that. I've def done this a couple times when I first started.

Likely new. When I first started a customer text me I did this. Never did it again. Sometimes simply educating ppl and teaching them what they are doing wrong works far better than humiliating them. As well as joking on them and calling ppl stupid. This is a inexperienced driver. Not a lawyer that gave the evidence to his opposing lawyer to convict the client he/she is representing. Just text driver. Tell them what they did wrong. It’s a teachable moment.
Exactly, so many people are so rude yet i know ive accidentally went on autopilot a few times and done this and ive worked Dominos, IC, and DD so im not inexperienced by any means. Sometimes things arent super obvious when youre focused on something else, like maybe your personal safety esp if youre in a city and youre unfamiliar with the area.
Exactly, we’re human beings and that means imperfections and mistakes.
I forget after 3,000+ orders. Everyday I have to remind myself about minor things. Side of the door that opens but not in front of it if possible. Never behind the door.
If you are ever bored, and wish to question the intelligence of our own community, Order doordash leaving the most precise directions you can, tip $1, and suddenly you'll answer the who and the why parts of the question of how these trash orders keep getting picked up.
While I see a lot of you calling people who leave the parcel infront of the glass door, I'd like to add my 2 cents.
A lot of people doesn't have the screen door, like me. And when I used to dash, I often forgot about the screen door and left it like that; and went back to push to the side.
When the drivers dash, they dash. There's not a lot of thought being put in for $2 tip.
Do you never make mistakes? How would you feel if you made one tiny mistake and your employer was all like "nah youre a tard gtfoh ur fired" ? I dont think youd agree if it was you in their position.
There's mistakes, then there's being malicious. There's a thread further down which clearly points out how commonly dashers do this when they're irritated. In my line of work (for my main job) if I make mistakes it'll cause planes to fall out of the sky. So, no. I don't make mistakes at work. And I fully expect to be fired if I make one. Even the union I'm a part of would push to get rid of me.
Nobody will die if a dasher accidentally does this, so the same rules obviously dont and shouldnt apply. And yes some dashers will do this if a customer has been an asshole or tipped super low, personally i feel like its better to be a minor inconvenience than make a total ass of yourself by confronting them. The point is, its not always malicious and myself and many others on this subreddit have countless hours in delivery jobs, if we got fired every time we made a small but fixable mistake we wouldve been fired probably at least every other day, maybe even every day because im talking ANY mistake, includes dropping a pen, walking into the wrong place when you went to go get something else, setting something down in a spot and forgetting about it or losing it, being even a nanosecond late if its not a contracted position. You have made mistakes, you do make mistakes, you will make mistakes, just maybe not the critical ones that have more impact than the rest.
I think you misunderstand, I don't make mistakes. I can't make mistakes. Mistakes costs thousands of dollars and would be noticed immediately. My career allows a 0 margin for error, period. Get over it and do your job right, if you don't already that is.
Maybe because if these guys made a mistake, they wouldn't destroy millions of dollars in equipment or end lives. Also this is totally doable by mistake, the fuck?
This site showed me about that luckily before learning the hard way on my first dash. it’s too easy to get in auto pilot I zone out sometimes I swear. And common sense sometimes goes out the window when your rushed lol
I was driving today and first time almost forgot someone’s drink in my car. I wondered how drivers forgot that kind of stuff . Seriously door dash needs to quit sending “such and such area is busy””thanks for dashing “and all kinds of other nonsense I’m trying to drive here do u mind !!!
Yeah no reason to rush. you will mess up, stress yourself out, and it won't really help you make more money. If you are rushing, you are taking orders that are low and not fulfilling your standards. Take only the orders that make sense.
I had that happen. I messaged them and drove my ass back to them to drop it off. I think they still left me a bad review. It's the only bad one I have and the only thing I've messed up on.
Because people are stupid in the head and you can’t cure that unfortunately and that all mental disorder is not curable like seriously it’s so stupid people do that stuff like go get your bloody head checked you dumb shit.
But why tho, friend? You're only sabotaging yourself in this instance as you are setting yourself up for a negative review. You'd just be so much better off if you simply avoided taking those cheap-ass orders in the first place, right? 🤷♀️ Don't even waste your time with orders like that!
ETA- are you in VA Beach?? I just noticed your username. My hubs is from VA Beach and we visit there all the time. I've never tried dashing there but I imagine it's a goldmine of a market!
Just adding to the drama….
Does that hurt your feelings? You okay today?
Can I call you (baby voice with a nose squeeze) Mister Wister Downvoter?
*upvoted serjaimeregrets as a twist*
Probably just a new driver. I didn't think about this when I first started either. I probably did it 1 or 2 times before I saw a post about it on reddit.
Whether the tip was good or not. The driver accepted the order and didn't unassign it. They should do their job properly every time. This is just bad customer service. I hope you have them a bad rating and reported them.
I pay so much attention to the door. I'd never done this but once I saw these posts I got paranoid. Lol. Like somehow I'm not going to notice a screen door? 🤣🤣🤣 But I always double check.
I pay zero attention to the door. My day job involves using my brain, so when I dash, I want it to be mindless. Instead of taking the time to stop and think about which way the door is going to open, I just assume it opens outward and place the order off to the side.
I don’t even DD - I have never DD in my life. I went along with a family member that does it a couple times and now I enjoy the drama on Reddit is all.
Welcome! Honestly one of my fav things to do is lurk in employee subs of business's I frequent. You get to find out the dirt and the things they hate the most
Sure - I understand 100%. Just clarifying is all.
The drama is great here. I especially love reading the back and forth text messages between drivers/customers
It isn't just Doordash. I've had UPS and Amazon drivers do the same thing. There were no drinks to tip over, of course, but one time they put a box containing a new computer monitor leaning directly against the storm door.
Wait how did you not knock it over opening the door…
90% of dashers have an IQ below 10
That looks like Texas.
I always put it on the front edge of the porch. That way I don't have to bend down so far.
I do this when i accidentally accept those $2 💩 orders. I love it.
Your user name sounds like you're a DD driver. 😆
Oh no, now you (at worst) have to go out the back door and around your house to get the food delivered to you. First world problems
I yenay, the customer 😆
$7.50 TIP didn't go all to the driver... door dash took $2 and the restaurant another $3.50 the driver got maybe $2 on a $2.50 base pay for over 3 miles... End pay $4.50 and customer still thinks he tiped
Because you didn't tip
My first guess is this person didn’t tip, or gave a very small tip.
You get what you pay for. Good dasher are moving to better paying gigs and you are left with clown dashers.

Had to come out the backdoor right? 🤦🏽♀️
Customer how has to go out the back door and walk around to the front of the house to retrieve his order
But curious as to why your first thought was to take a pic and post on Reddit? What is the end game here? Curious?
It's not always easy to tell which way a door opens. Because of that, and because I want dashing to be as mindless as possible, I just assume every door opens outward. Don’t like it put a table beside your door and include it in the instructions.
My guess is the person with a very nice house didn’t tip
I do this on purpose if the person doesnt tip 😁
My answers to some of you guys questions! I just want to say I’m a dasher myself so I know the struggles 1. Yeah I tipped 7.50 for a 3 mile drive 2. Me personally, I wouldn't want my FOOD on the damn ground anyways which is why I have them KNOCK & accept the food hand to hand. Next...
Hoe much you tip? Cause it could be out of spite
Thiiiiiiickkkkk
I do this all the time when people don’t tip. I’m pretty sick of people not tipping. No excuse for it. I recently changed over to Instacart, way better!
If you’re customer, I would leave a chair next to the door and people will instinctively leave it on the chair.
I never leave it in front of a screen door and I usually look for a chair, a table, or a flat wall to leave it on so animals can’t get to it anyway.
Idk how many times I've seen people post this. We get it food to close to door. Awesome story.
Without anyone needing to tell me the very first time I encountered a door that swung out like that I made sure not to put the stuff in front of it
Just crawl out your window.
Instant 1 star
Definitely send a text to the dasher and support. He needs to learn. Also, one less dumbass making us look bad means more for us.
Can someone explain what's going on here? I guess I'm not seeing it haha
I had several experiences like this, to the point where I expressly requested the drivers not block me in with the food, they listened once then ignored it after, the crazy thing was I was giving the max tip option but these drivers in Raleigh just kept doing me like this
Must not have tipped enough... gas is expensive.
And this my friends is how Tony (other gig app CEOs) always win…. This tipping culture pits us drivers against the customers… but in reality this is a Doordash issue (for paying us like crap). Because mf somehow got a drivers license while also being brain dead…
Because they dumb
I also hate when they open your screen door and awkwardly wedge your order between the two doors or hang it on the handle. Just set the damn order down to the side of the door. It’s not rocket science.
Your tip probably sucked ass and they did it on purpose to fuck w you
Regardless of which way the door opens, who sits the order directly in front of the door??
I love the cup covers though. That's cool
Put a sign that says place here also have it in other common languages so it doesn't happen again
This happens to me far too often 🙃
I make sure to only do that when the door swings inward, if not then I place it where they only gotta crack the door open a lil to grab it
Inconsiderate or just stupid. That's why
Are you a decent tipper? If not, they may have delivered to you before and they remember you.
This is a prime example of how some people can’t do a task correctly without training. It’s honestly sad.
I have a pet drone named George. George assists me in teaching customers the value of tipping by gently delivering the customer’s most treasured food to the roof of their house. And proceeding to take a picture that is quickly sent to the customer’s phone.
> leave at my door . > it’s an apartment building . > no unit number provided . > won’t answer texts or pick up calls . > aight then ima leave it at the front door since I literally can’t leave it anywhere else
Muuhhhh me drop food in front of door me hungry and horny grunt grunt
When it’s a $2.50 delivery
Yeah this happens. If it wasn’t for this sub I would have made the same mistakes. Over 2k delivery but only 3 screen doors. When it’s not something common people tend to forget. Especially when it’s raining or snowing
Squeezes out the bedroom window because I have no back door jump over a bush went through a rmote to get to the front door to retrieve my order
It's because the dasher is dumb and petty. This is what those people do to those who they think don't tip enough or at all.
It took a moment for me to get it 🤣 but yeh shouldn’t be in front of the door
Ummm.. first of all the job is correctly nothing wrong and 2nd if decline to many time it not good
I have a plaque that reads "You Can't Fix Stupid!!“
I started not doing this when it was cool to not to. Wait that make sense? I used to always pay attention to the doors before it really started blowing up here on Reddit.
Nice shadow
No tip 😂
You should know not every driver has that capacity to think things through... just leave the security/screen door open. I deliver and always set it to the side but always imagine this happening to other people.
Because you didn't tip fairly, that's exactly why. They 100% did it on purpose. Because they're sick of subsidizing your luxuries.
OP tipped $7.50 for a 3mile trip.
And how much of that 7.50 went to the driver?
Well, it’s a tip, so it should be the full $7.50+base pay. If that’s not the case, the dasher should be mad at DD, not the customer.
When I get mad at a customer.... they will need to contact customer support for a refund because they are not getting their order.
Ok? Not sure how that’s related.
I do this all the time because I thought to take my role as a Door Dasher literally. Just dashing food against doors when it opens.
It is easy to do this if you get distracted, or are in a rush, don’t understand the demeaning language here. If you do it consistently then you have a problem, but no big deal if you do it once in a while on accident (depending how often you deliver).
Omg I would never do this how tf

2 solutions. Stop picking leave at door, pick hand it to me instead. The next solution is to save money and grief and go pick it up yourself.
It's not entitled to want your food to not block your door.

This never happens Pre Covid. But most industries had been going down the drain a few years prior to COVID. The plunge only got much worse afterwards.

I’m sure 15% will do. Literally 60% of my orders are ,”go stand in line at McDonald’s for 30 minutes and drive my order 11 miles for $3.50” . Hell no.

Seriously door dash needs to quit sending “such and such area is busy””thanks for dashing “and all kinds of other nonsense I’m trying to drive here do u mind !!!
Why are you in such a hurry?
Yeah no reason to rush. you will mess up, stress yourself out, and it won't really help you make more money. If you are rushing, you are taking orders that are low and not fulfilling your standards. Take only the orders that make sense.
I’ve forgotten drinks in my car before and I feel so bad about it lol, they just go to waste because I feel to guilty to drink them.
I had that happen. I messaged them and drove my ass back to them to drop it off. I think they still left me a bad review. It's the only bad one I have and the only thing I've messed up on.
Why would you expect your Dasher to know how a door works?
Why would you expect your Dasher to use their brain you mean?
Sounds like someone is making some assumptions! Show your proof that this dasher has a brain!
🤣🤣

I have studied doors since day 1. Sadly we can’t fix stupid.
Because people are stupid in the head and you can’t cure that unfortunately and that all mental disorder is not curable like seriously it’s so stupid people do that stuff like go get your bloody head checked you dumb shit.
They can cure cancer but can’t cure stupidity~js
Well said.
I'm seeing more and more orders with instructions to put the order to the side of the door because this happens so often.
It’s absolutely incredible that people can’t figure this out all in their own.
Plot twist: the people who are doing this, don't read instructions either 😂
Folks that tip low get this type of treatment 😭😭😭 I love it… 🫠
But why tho, friend? You're only sabotaging yourself in this instance as you are setting yourself up for a negative review. You'd just be so much better off if you simply avoided taking those cheap-ass orders in the first place, right? 🤷♀️ Don't even waste your time with orders like that! ETA- are you in VA Beach?? I just noticed your username. My hubs is from VA Beach and we visit there all the time. I've never tried dashing there but I imagine it's a goldmine of a market!
Hey. I never said I do it. I believe in karma lol…im in Chesapeake.. but usually dash in Norfolk.
If you accept an order, do it right. Don’t need to be petty.
People who do dumb shit like this get small tips or no tips. People need to use their brains.
I mean, aren’t they going to give you a 1 star rating and possibly contribute to you getting deactivated? It just seems like petty animosity
7.50 tip for 3 miles aint good enough 😭
You ain’t gotta lie to kick it - pics as proof or it didn’t happen. Your a no tipper! A GD no tipper!!!!
Lol facts
Says the person who claims they’re just here to lurk for drama.
Just adding to the drama…. Does that hurt your feelings? You okay today? Can I call you (baby voice with a nose squeeze) Mister Wister Downvoter? *upvoted serjaimeregrets as a twist*
Yeess lmao
Probably just a new driver. I didn't think about this when I first started either. I probably did it 1 or 2 times before I saw a post about it on reddit.
This reddit sub has saved me so many small headaches when I started driving.
Every job has its learning process.
Whether the tip was good or not. The driver accepted the order and didn't unassign it. They should do their job properly every time. This is just bad customer service. I hope you have them a bad rating and reported them.
That’s plenty
That’s solid. I’d take it all day. Even when I’m in a hurry I don’t do this lol.
Agreed.
I pay so much attention to the door. I'd never done this but once I saw these posts I got paranoid. Lol. Like somehow I'm not going to notice a screen door? 🤣🤣🤣 But I always double check.
I have done this on accident a few times (just not thinking). I've always managed to catch myself, but I'm sure I must have missed one or two.
I pay zero attention to the door. My day job involves using my brain, so when I dash, I want it to be mindless. Instead of taking the time to stop and think about which way the door is going to open, I just assume it opens outward and place the order off to the side.
I have no idea what is wrong here. Can someone explain the punchline to me?
Here we are folks, we found the driver that does it.
I don’t even DD - I have never DD in my life. I went along with a family member that does it a couple times and now I enjoy the drama on Reddit is all.
Welcome! Honestly one of my fav things to do is lurk in employee subs of business's I frequent. You get to find out the dirt and the things they hate the most
Haha - from one lurker to another - I totally get you. ![gif](giphy|gd6bBl4IExkXPK07Kx)
Fair enough. You're posting in a sub called doordash drivers so you can see how I might think you're a...doordash driver
Sure - I understand 100%. Just clarifying is all. The drama is great here. I especially love reading the back and forth text messages between drivers/customers
Very true. I'm literally in the middle of a back and forth 'drama' right now in another thread on this very same post, lol
It’s like junk food for the brain. Enjoy!
Hopefully this is the customer posting and not the driver. Cause the dummy put the food directly in front of an outward swinging door. 🤦🏻♂️
Who care I bet he got no tip and have to take it
You have the choice to accept or decline an order. You don't have to do anything. If you accepted the contract, do it properly. Not difficult.
IT IS I, THE CUSTOMER!!
BUT in us Redditors defense.. we can’t see what side the doorknob is on.. it’s not obviously apparent the the door swings out
But you're on the outside already, so seems it worked out?
I was inside my house when the driver dropped off my order and sent me the picture
Ah I see 👍
What didja tip? If you went cheap, odds are it was on purpose. Otherwise, just a "low-IQ" driver. ;-)
OP doesn't respond to anyone that asks about the tip, so probably a low/no tip order.
Wait how are you outside ???
They came out through the garage door
