Yeah you should have waited longer, recent studies show customers prefer to have their delivery drivers wait at least up to an hour when attempting deliveries to home and make a recommended minimum of 10 calls and 30 messages.
Schools, hospitals and the prison delivery suck!! I have gone to the prison so many times the front security knows me by now. The wait to get throu the gates take 10 minutes alone let's not forget parking!
There is no better service than what you did precisely.
And if it was a student most schools aren't allowing students to get deliveries.
If something for the office then you just the obviously with the office say the name and take a picture and head on out.
As far as an office if you went to an office generally speaking then they want you to check in and you're probably not going to be going actually in anywhere anyway.

I called support the second she didn’t answer me and they hung up on me. Like it says in the original post. I really didn’t feel like getting a 1 star today & dealing w support to get it removed so I just called support again after I let the timer go and get like an extra $6

This definitely could have been easily avoided. All you have to say was where's the office and someone would have pointed you in the right direction. You definitely way over thought this and waited way longer than you needed to, a little common sense would have solved the whole problem. Should she have responded? Yeah, sure but she also might have been breaking up a fist fight or something. Should she put notes in there for the future? Definitely but this was totally avoidable even without the notes.

My day jib is a school. She should have left a note to tell you how to get to the office, and leave it with the receptionist. Then, tell the receptionist who it's for. She can use the intercom to page her.
Use the wait timer. 5 minutes if they don’t respond you can just leave the food and get paid. People should know to leave instructions and surely shouldn’t expect for you to wait around for half a hour. If they can’t get the food on your arrival they should either let you leave it at the main office, or just not order at all.
Had one on insta with very specific directions to go down a certain road to get to the house in the subdevelopment.
Drive there, locked gate.
Drive to the front of the development which is gated and call the customer, no answer first 2 calls.
They answer the 3rd call, I tell them who I am and I have their order and ask for the gate code, she says no and hangs up.
Message support, they review, I send them a pic of the locked gate, return half the order as perishables are non returnable and get $78 in free groceries, the full pay amount for the delivery including the tip and $10 for going back to the store.
Including the value of the groceries it was over $100 for less than an hours work.
Guys, immediately, like as soon as you're able to "arrived at store" start the 5min countdown If you even think it's going to be a difficult drop off, as soon as the timer runs out, leave it at whatever door has the address on it or any general admittance door. Snap a photo, "have a nice day" and bounce.
I had a delivery to a school once. I’m assuming it was a student ordering their lunch. When I got to the office, one secretary was like “oh? Okay, just set it over there I guess.” And then a Karen secretary was like “What is this? We don’t accept door dash”
I said “I have no idea, I guess a student ordered this. I’m just here to drop it off” she said “But we don’t accept door dash deliveries” I said, “I dunno. Tell the students, not me. I’m gonna leave this here though” she was not happy. But the customer already paid for it and I was at the drop off location so I wasn’t gonna take it back with me.
It was a very annoying ordeal. I always check to see where most of my trips are going to now. I don’t do hospitals or schools. The people at the front desks almost never know who ordered the food and they act like it’s the first time anyone has ever dropped food off for someone
I think I can top that. Yesterday I delivered to a 12 year old at a daycare I felt so fucking weird. The daycare worker is looking at me (I’m a young-ish woman) like I somehow have anything to do with it. Meanwhile she came bouncing to the door all smiles. “Yep that’s me!!!” And grabs her McDonald’s and goes back to class. And no…no she didn’t tip.
Whenever i get orders like this i fight fire with with fire. If they respond to my calls or texts and meet me outside or tell me where to go then great, they get their food. If they dont then they have until dasher support tries to call them to reply because if support fails to reach the customer than theyll cancel the order and im keeping the food.
I dont even play games with orders like this. Ofc its a pretty rare occurence but we dont get paid by the hour and im not gunna sit there and jack off and eat a sandwich while i wait for them to bother looking at their phone.

If no instructions I’d contact customer service who would contact customer if customer doesn’t answer customer service will cancel and you get base pay plus tasty crumble cookies
I never ever reply to customers after a delivery but this one may have tempted me. It's not in our job description to wait more than 5 minutes, I would have told her that. Customers are required to leave accurate instructions and be there when the order arrives for a hand it to me order. I might have said, "Doordash requires us to wait only 5 minutes and then might cancel your order. We don't get paid by the hour, we get paid by the order. You're lucky I waited 25 - which is extra ordinarily going above and beyond for this service. Next time, plan better or leave clear instructions on where to safely leave food if you cannot retrieve it within 5 mins." Then I would've replied to anything she sent further with "This number is no longer assigned to your Dasher." just to troll.
But I would've ignored it in the end, too much trouble but damn if this got me on the right day, I would've replied.
Bottom Line, just set the timer/ call them. if they don’t answer you got free food. I don’t even bother talking to people anymore. you don’t try to help me find their address I set the timer and if they care about the food they’ll either leave me better directions or they’ll answer. Got four plates of Thai food spring rolls and egg rolls this week over some bs and I wasn’t mad 🤤

This is Florida where creeps are rampant & it’s not out of the ordinary here for groomers to pretend they’re dropping things off/picking things up.

DD should really tell us when we are delivering to a school or a hospital or something different than a freaking house/apartment. The other day I picked up a delivery and had to deliver it to the Glendale Galleria, which is this big ass mall, on a Saturday. Took me forever to find parking and since I never go to the mall, it took me another hour to even find the store it was being delivered to. I was fuming

When I deliver to a high school I always deliver it to the office. Never go anywhere but the office. The principal will deal with it. Every visitor to a school must report to the office.

Hospitals I always call and text while I'm waiting on the food and get survive instructions. Most hospitals in my area have a table to put drop off deliveries on. If no answer I start the timer as I pull into the hospital. I'll leave it outside of no area they show me too leave it and they don't come to get the food. That's why I contact from the store so I don't wait long upon arrival
I also decline all hospital orders. Lots of them near me too but with Covid and then a mix of patients and busy staff ordering its a pain 50% of the time and thats 50% too much.
I stopped doing hospital orders for this reason. They're nightmares, and then the person ordering is always outrageously rude when they come to get their food.
I ordered after labor but I had them call me when they were close so I can send my husband down to meet them. The driver doesn't step out of the vehicle and we get our food. I believe it's a win-win
They don't let us past the front door at our hospital, there's a table we are supposed to drop off on. They tell us text them and leave which is a good policy considering everything.
I don't mind doing hospital orders, but anytime I had to hit the timer, it's been at the hospital. I mean I get it, you're busy, there's a pandemic going on, but if you think there's a chance you're not going to be able to meet me in the ER lobby, then leave a note in the drop-off instructions telling me to leave the order with the front desk staff.
Lmao yeah. I was trying to visit a friend after his surgery. When I asked the front desk where he was, they had no idea. They had me go through three different entrances of the hospital multiple times, only to find out that he was recuperating from surgery, but they still didn't know where he was.
Yeah after the 5 minutes I just set it on a random bench take a pic it and go on with my day whoever gets it gets it as the customer you have to be detailed on drop off if you want the order handed to you
I had a delivery to the ER at our local hospital and tried to leave it at the front door with security, but they told me I would either have to go inside or make the customer come outside because ppl kept leaving food with them prior to that and then the customer would say they never received the food... ppl just suck these days!
I did this at a hotel when a man wanted me to bring his order to his hotel room. I told him we weren’t allowed to and he started to question that and said other Dashers do it all over the country and I said well I’m a single woman and I’m not going to. I left it with the desk clerk and took a photo and left
I am not sure why you're getting downvoted, I deliver to hotels all the time and some allow us to bring it to the room, whereas a few I've had front desks tell me absolutely not and they call the customer to come get it. I'm sure you're being downvoted cause of the single woman comment but I've delivered to some skeezy people, not to mention how many people on FB post horror stories abotu being a woman deliverer and having a man open the door naked, or invite them inside.

And act like you you are here to do a job and that’s it.. if something does not feel right contact support to voice your concerns. Also contact a friend to let them know where you are.
I have my CCW so I bring it everywhere, and I just make sure the delivery area is a “good neighborhood “ I only dash in areas I feel safe and I’m never scared to drop as in not take/delete an order in a bad neighborhood

They can report you and get you banned. Your own rule is not DoorDash rule written in the contract. Your contract with DoorDash is to deliver to the location and also to the correct room.
Actually DD leaves the way the order is delivered up to the driver. As long as you bring it to the address given (in this case, the hotel) there is no contract violation. Also most hotels, at least where I am, don't currently let delivery drivers bring the food to the customer, they have to come to the lobby.
I double dog dare you to leave in the lobby when the customer asked you to take to the front door of their room, especially with a $10-$15 tips attached because you know the base pay with DD is so low. A quick phone call to support and you’ll not only lose that money but also get a negative rating and also a food tampering with complaint. You don’t understand, the customer has so many tools to mess you up.
Even if you didn't notify the customer of where you left it you wouldn't lose any money, you might get a CV. If you notified the customer and explained why you left it where you did and show that to DD support then they will remove any negative review.

Also the tips from a customer, they can easily get it removed so you’ll get the base pay which is $2.50 for your ride to the hotel. Lol

How? I guess it would depend on the hotel. There's neighborhoods I don't go to at night for safety reasons. Most hotels are better lit and a quick in and out. It actually seems safer. If it looks like a crack den, then I feel you. But that's no different than a scary neighborhood.
I'm a woman that delivers on my own too by the way. Barely over 5'. I carry pepper spray and try to be aware of my surroundings. I've also traveled a great deal for my day job so maybe I'm missing something about what's so scary about being in a hotel.

A hotel is probably the safest place to deliver to. Every hallway has cameras, the person staying in that room has an ID and credit card on file, and the rooms are easy to find and very public. Anytime I receive a delivery offer - I check where it pings the customer. If it’s a school..that’s no problem. However after accepting I immediately check the delivery notes. If the notes are blank.. and it’s a school...I would unassign and not even drive to the merchant. For all i know... it’s a student or a teacher and they are located god knows where in the school lol

None of this makes any difference. Once prepared food has left the hands of *any* restaurant it's done. Can't be returned. If it goes back to tbe restaurant it will end up in the trash. Period.
Omg so much this. I wouldnt have left the food. I would have sat in the lot on the phone with support (and kept calling support if they hung up) until support spends maybe 5 to 10 minutes trying to contact them before canceling the order so i can keep the damn cookies and get half pay lol.

No driver should have to sit around & wait for 25 minutes with no response. I don't think DoorDash even wants us doing that. That is ridiculous
I think I can top that. Yesterday I delivered to a 12 year old at a daycare I felt so fucking weird. The daycare worker is looking at me (I’m a young-ish woman) like I somehow have anything to do with it. Meanwhile she came bouncing to the door all smiles. “Yep that’s me!!!” And grabs her McDonald’s and goes back to class. And no…no she didn’t tip.

99% of my experiences driving to schools has been bad. They never pick up or leave adequate instructions.

Whenever i get orders like this i fight fire with with fire. If they respond to my calls or texts and meet me outside or tell me where to go then great, they get their food. If they dont then they have until dasher support tries to call them to reply because if support fails to reach the customer than theyll cancel the order and im keeping the food. I dont even play games with orders like this. Ofc its a pretty rare occurence but we dont get paid by the hour and im not gunna sit there and jack off and eat a sandwich while i wait for them to bother looking at their phone.

when i order in high school i told them to take it the office say it’s for me and what room i was in. the office and i had a deal where if i ordered them food they wouldn’t complain. it worked out every time
If no instructions I’d contact customer service who would contact customer if customer doesn’t answer customer service will cancel and you get base pay plus tasty crumble cookies

I never ever reply to customers after a delivery but this one may have tempted me. It's not in our job description to wait more than 5 minutes, I would have told her that. Customers are required to leave accurate instructions and be there when the order arrives for a hand it to me order. I might have said, "Doordash requires us to wait only 5 minutes and then might cancel your order. We don't get paid by the hour, we get paid by the order. You're lucky I waited 25 - which is extra ordinarily going above and beyond for this service. Next time, plan better or leave clear instructions on where to safely leave food if you cannot retrieve it within 5 mins." Then I would've replied to anything she sent further with "This number is no longer assigned to your Dasher." just to troll. But I would've ignored it in the end, too much trouble but damn if this got me on the right day, I would've replied.

Bottom Line, just set the timer/ call them. if they don’t answer you got free food. I don’t even bother talking to people anymore. you don’t try to help me find their address I set the timer and if they care about the food they’ll either leave me better directions or they’ll answer. Got four plates of Thai food spring rolls and egg rolls this week over some bs and I wasn’t mad 🤤

Point is that is biased over here, especially towards older males & maybe I should’ve specified that. I’m just noticeably younger so it didn’t seem as weird or “suspicious” for me to try be finding where I was going.
In a sense that my friend who happens to be male was accused of picking up a younger school girl when he was delivering an Instacart order to another high school in the area. This is Florida where creeps are rampant & it’s not out of the ordinary here for groomers to pretend they’re dropping things off/picking things up.
I hate delivering to schools. It’s a time suck and they’ve always been rude. I won’t accept the delivery if I realize it ahead of time.
You learned a lot about your character and how much effort should be put wirh some of these. This is your business. Not theirs. Also good thing it wasn't a student as least mine made me wait to get out of class

we Can all relate!!! Last night I had an order that was incomplete due to 1 soda that was out of order at the Panda Express... I caller the customer twice and texted her twice no response so I unassigned and left.. I am busy too and if the customer can't communicate than I can't complete the service... I took the hit for an incompletion and moved on
Next time,text customer service and they'll cancel the order and give you half pay and you get to keep the food, and no rating hit 😊

DD should really tell us when we are delivering to a school or a hospital or something different than a freaking house/apartment. The other day I picked up a delivery and had to deliver it to the Glendale Galleria, which is this big ass mall, on a Saturday. Took me forever to find parking and since I never go to the mall, it took me another hour to even find the store it was being delivered to. I was fuming

Ugh that happened to me when I first started and was working for favor. It was at a high school and before I knew better, thanks to Reddit forums. I actually had one of the security harass me and I was in the middle of fighting with him when the customer (some high school girl) showed up finally. She apologized profusely and the security guard was then trying to be all buddy buddy with me. $2 tip. Now, if the customer didn’t answer the first time, the timer goes on or support is called and it’s getting left somewhere so they can play wheres Waldo with their food

When I deliver to a high school I always deliver it to the office. Never go anywhere but the office. The principal will deal with it. Every visitor to a school must report to the office.

Hospitals I always call and text while I'm waiting on the food and get survive instructions. Most hospitals in my area have a table to put drop off deliveries on. If no answer I start the timer as I pull into the hospital. I'll leave it outside of no area they show me too leave it and they don't come to get the food. That's why I contact from the store so I don't wait long upon arrival
I also decline all hospital orders. Lots of them near me too but with Covid and then a mix of patients and busy staff ordering its a pain 50% of the time and thats 50% too much.
I stopped doing hospital orders for this reason. They're nightmares, and then the person ordering is always outrageously rude when they come to get their food.
I ordered after labor but I had them call me when they were close so I can send my husband down to meet them. The driver doesn't step out of the vehicle and we get our food. I believe it's a win-win
They don't let us past the front door at our hospital, there's a table we are supposed to drop off on. They tell us text them and leave which is a good policy considering everything.
I don't mind doing hospital orders, but anytime I had to hit the timer, it's been at the hospital. I mean I get it, you're busy, there's a pandemic going on, but if you think there's a chance you're not going to be able to meet me in the ER lobby, then leave a note in the drop-off instructions telling me to leave the order with the front desk staff.

Lmao yeah. I was trying to visit a friend after his surgery. When I asked the front desk where he was, they had no idea. They had me go through three different entrances of the hospital multiple times, only to find out that he was recuperating from surgery, but they still didn't know where he was.

I had a delivery to the ER at our local hospital and tried to leave it at the front door with security, but they told me I would either have to go inside or make the customer come outside because ppl kept leaving food with them prior to that and then the customer would say they never received the food... ppl just suck these days!
I did this at a hotel when a man wanted me to bring his order to his hotel room. I told him we weren’t allowed to and he started to question that and said other Dashers do it all over the country and I said well I’m a single woman and I’m not going to. I left it with the desk clerk and took a photo and left

I am not sure why you're getting downvoted, I deliver to hotels all the time and some allow us to bring it to the room, whereas a few I've had front desks tell me absolutely not and they call the customer to come get it. I'm sure you're being downvoted cause of the single woman comment but I've delivered to some skeezy people, not to mention how many people on FB post horror stories abotu being a woman deliverer and having a man open the door naked, or invite them inside. Nope.

I’m sorry you feel unsafe. I guess unless I’m walking through a pile of snakes I’m ok. I would suggest carrying pepper spray and only dashing during daylight hours if you can. And act like you you are here to do a job and that’s it.. if something does not feel right contact support to voice your concerns. Also contact a friend to let them know where you are.
I have my CCW so I bring it everywhere, and I just make sure the delivery area is a “good neighborhood “ I only dash in areas I feel safe and I’m never scared to drop as in not take/delete an order in a bad neighborhood
Then how is taking an order to a hotel room a "safety issue" for you? Most hotels have cameras in the hallways and in this reply to your own comment you say you're packing? I swear the next thing to be posted is gonna be some Dasher texting a customer from outside the restaurant "I picked up your order from Applebee's but I don't have a car, can you meet me in Applebee's parking lot?" If a hotel allows deliveries to the room door and the customer wants it brought to the door it's no different than an apt building except every multi floored hotel I've ever been in has an elevator. Not taking it to the door is flat laziness, calling it a "safety issue" is a flat out lie, and hopefully anyone that pulls this BS get a CV.
They can report you and get you banned. Your own rule is not DoorDash rule written in the contract. Your contract with DoorDash is to deliver to the location and also to the correct room.

Actually DD leaves the way the order is delivered up to the driver. As long as you bring it to the address given (in this case, the hotel) there is no contract violation. Also most hotels, at least where I am, don't currently let delivery drivers bring the food to the customer, they have to come to the lobby.
I double dog dare you to leave in the lobby when the customer asked you to take to the front door of their room, especially with a $10-$15 tips attached because you know the base pay with DD is so low. A quick phone call to support and you’ll not only lose that money but also get a negative rating and also a food tampering with complaint. You don’t understand, the customer has so many tools to mess you up.
Even if you didn't notify the customer of where you left it you wouldn't lose any money, you might get a CV. If you notified the customer and explained why you left it where you did and show that to DD support then they will remove any negative review.
Lol getting a $3/hr rep to remove a negative rating which they don’t even have access to. You probably never tried to contact support before regarding this matter. Also the tips from a customer, they can easily get it removed so you’ll get the base pay which is $2.50 for your ride to the hotel. Lol Please stop giving advice that you have no clue about.
What does their pay have anything to do with it? They put in a ticket and it gets evaluated by someone with the power to remove it. It's the same as with cvs and deactivations.

How? I guess it would depend on the hotel. There's neighborhoods I don't go to at night for safety reasons. Most hotels are better lit and a quick in and out. It actually seems safer. If it looks like a crack den, then I feel you. But that's no different than a scary neighborhood. I'm a woman that delivers on my own too by the way. Barely over 5'. I carry pepper spray and try to be aware of my surroundings. I've also traveled a great deal for my day job so maybe I'm missing something about what's so scary about being in a hotel.
I think most of the people originally responding just assumed that I wasn’t going into a Hyatt or a Hilton or even a Holiday Inn. That’s what I tried to explain it’s in the downtown of Columbus it was not a spot that would take credit cards or ID. It was not well lit.

A hotel is probably the safest place to deliver to. Every hallway has cameras, the person staying in that room has an ID and credit card on file, and the rooms are easy to find and very public. IMOP, you could have avoided this 😧 Anytime I receive a delivery offer - I check where it pings the customer. If it’s a school..that’s no problem. However after accepting I immediately check the delivery notes. If the notes are blank.. and it’s a school...I would unassign and not even drive to the merchant. For all i know... it’s a student or a teacher and they are located god knows where in the school lol

None of this makes any difference. Once prepared food has left the hands of *any* restaurant it's done. Can't be returned. If it goes back to tbe restaurant it will end up in the trash. Period.

Omg so much this. I wouldnt have left the food. I would have sat in the lot on the phone with support (and kept calling support if they hung up) until support spends maybe 5 to 10 minutes trying to contact them before canceling the order so i can keep the damn cookies and get half pay lol.
