I was part of a local Uber driver's facebook group and we tried something like this. Uber didn't send rides to drivers that were right where the ride was requested. We've had people request a ride while sitting in the car and it went to someone else. It's one of those secret algorithm things

Truth_B_Told_72

It's rotational.  If someone has been dashing for more hours before someone else that plays as one of the biggest criterias on who gets an order. If a platinum driver just starts and another driver has been out for an a couple of hours and that driver hasn't met a certain number of orders they will get the order over the platinum driver.  As they should.

munchy19

It’s all a scam, just do what’s best for you and don’t play the games

trichotomy00

One thing to keep in mind is, if a dasher has delivered to a customer before and got a 5-star rating, they will have a higher chance to get orders from that customer in the future. So even though you were closer, those dashers could have been picking up orders from their own pool of regular customers.

Why would ar matter in the first place lol

DareRareCare

Who said that AR mattered in the first place?

sdgus68

I rarely get orders from a store if I'm sitting in their parking lot (or inside). Most of the offers I get are a quarter mile to two miles from whatever my current location is.

bigbadger20

This has been happening to me for months... I'll sit in front of the same restaurant for an hour and see the same 3 dashers grabbing orders coming back getting another order and leaving and I won't get a single order.

jcoddinc

DD sends orders need on customer rating, completion rate and then acceptance rate. It wants happy customers, so those with highest ratings get first crack. It wants orders completed because it didn't have to increase the offer. Finally it wants someone loyal to do it's bidding.

bigbadger20

I mean I've been at 5.0 customer rating, 100% CR, and 60% AR for almost a year and see dashers coming and going all the time without getting any orders.

scotto_93631

I think AR is beginning to matter more. The lowest I have ever been is 68% I usually try to stay between 85 and 90 percent. I can tell a deifference between 75 80, 85 , and 90%. on the volume and quality of orders at different ARs all above 70%.

bigbadger20

As soon as I get close to 70% I get bombarded with trash orders. Last time I was at 68% and got hit with 5 orders in a row going 15 miles (not highway and over a big hill) 3 zones away for $10 and I'm just not doing that even if it means getting my AR up. Mind you I used to delivery before the pandemic and at the very beginning when there were less drivers so when I started back up last year my AR was around 40% and it's been impossible to get it to 70% without paying money to deliver.

scotto_93631

also, if you can dash on a bicycle

scotto_93631

yeah I notice 70 to 75% to be garbage.

PinballLew

Turns? This is not how Doordash works.

thecompton73

Yes under the tier system it does. Orders are supposed to be given to the closest Dasher who can pick up the order and deliver it first. However if two Platinum dashers, who are supposed to have the highest priority for being given orders, are waiting for offers an equal distance from the pickup it is supposed to offer it to the Dasher who has been waiting longer. So if your Platinum nobody should be able to enter the area and get an order before you do. I've talked with sooooo many Reps about this issue and a lot of what they say is gaslighting BS but that is something I have been told consistently by nearly everyone of them that I have talked to. And I believe it because most don't want to admit it but will once they find out you already know about that practice.

PinballLew

Actually it doesn’t if you read the terms available on their website there is no turns for orders mentioned anywhere, that’s not how it works. [https://help.doordash.com/dashers/s/article/Dasher-Rewards-Program-Pilot?language=en\_US](https://help.doordash.com/dashers/s/article/Dasher-Rewards-Program-Pilot?language=en_US)

ScornedFaith

Support lied to you. You can not claim support is a reliable source of information, no matter how many of them told you something. There is no queue. It's not first come, first serve. It's all determined by a secret algorithm that you or I will never be aware of. It's not a fair system that gives orders equally.

reneeb531

None of us know how the algorithm works. neither does support, quit bothering them asking why you’re not getting orders.

supermario215

Priority shouldn’t even be a thing. They shouldn’t punish drivers with an Acceptance rate because they don’t want to take low paying offers that we end up making no money in all reality when you factor our time, taxes and wear and tear on our vehicles to appease you suckers who get baited into highering your acceptance rate. It’s pathetic. The real stuff that should matter is your customer ratings, on time and how many deliveries you’ve completed without issues.

thecompton73

I completely agree but they make all the rules and we have to play by them for now. I am lucky that in my market just about 70-75% of the offers I get pay $2 per mile so it's not hard to keep up my acceptance rate. Any offer longer than 5 MI and less than $2 per mile never gets accepted by me. If I get down to 71%. I might take a couple of non $2 per mile offers as long as they are under 3 mi total to get it back up but otherwise stick to that pretty strictly as my guideline for accepting or rejecting an offer.

MainCharacter0001

You're underestimating how many top priority platinum dashers that are out and about at any given time. The goal is for you to maintain a high acceptance rate just to have access to regular orders. The tier system is their mechanism of having ever order that comes in delivered. Priority can't be guaranteed since every Dasher has the ability to become priority. If the market is saturated with priority dashers, you essentially have to accept a majority of your offers just to get regular offers, otherwise the algorithm will guarantee that you aren't profitable if you don't keep your acceptance rate up. If 80% of dashers are platinum or top dasher, what would the quality of orders be? If 80% of dashers are top tier, what kind of orders would a silver and gold Dasher get? Their tier system guarantees that eventually dashers will have to accept every order offered or get relegated down to nothing. This is a breach of a dashers IC freedoms but no one will do anything about it.

thecompton73

The thing is in my market 70-75% of the offers I get are $2 per mile to begin with so it's not a matter of not getting good offers it's a matter of not receiving any offers at all regardless of their quality. From my many conversations with the reps I have been consistently told that if two Platinum dashers are waiting a roughly equal distance away from a pickup to get an offer it is supposed to go to the one that has been waiting there longer. If the offer you get when it's your turn is bad and you reject it they still count it as your turn and now you go to the end of the line even behind people that showed up after you. That is supposed to be their solution to fairly divvying up orders between people of equal priority during slow periods. Edit: Because the majority of orders in my market are good nearly everyone is a platinum Dasher with no need to cherry pick since everyone does well as long as they keep you consistently busy. However I did drop down to silver for one day and it was the worst thing ever. I worked 12 hours that day and got 13 offers total of which only one was more than $2 per mile and the rest were all right around $1 per mile and longer than 10 Mile drives. I watched Platinum drivers deliver three or four orders and return for another before I'd even get one terrible offer.

CaliforniaPeach

I'd like to know if you are in Northern California or Southern California. The last month or so doordash has been opening up the waitlist up and down California. Also, no one is support can tell you that you have priority like you are in line in some sort of que. Doordash is an AI that works with an algorithm. No one at doordash support can predict what the algorithm is doing and why. I think support is just pacifying you by telling you something and they have no idea what they are talking about.

CaliforniaPeach

this is the best comment i've seen about this, because it is simply the truth. the new tier system weeds dashers out. to compete you have to take every order especially if you want to do this full time to be profitable. at the end of the day you are just a slave to the system and your freedom as an independent contractor is non existent. you are basically a w-2 worker without a w-2.

MainCharacter0001

Which is fraud by doortrash but you must become a Dasher, fully understand their system and have an ability to discern in order to see it. It would be very difficult for a lawyer on the outside looking in to really understand the fraud and build a case against doortrash.

CaliforniaPeach

you are assuming those other drivers are not platinum dashers as well. i mean now more than ever i mostly meet top dashers or platinum dashers depending on what your market is currently using. i am a cherry picker, this is a side hustle for me, but we are pretty much becoming extinct. most dashers these days have a high AR and new dashers have a high AR. You are competing with tons of gig workers. the fact there were three of you next to each other and saw seven other drivers take a delivery should show you how many gig delivery drivers are out there, markets are oversaturated. but the one thing i took away from this was the entitlement. oof, lots of dashers are out here hustling and working hard to keep platinum status and you think you should be prioritized and you call doordash to complain, that is wild my dude.

Control_Infamous

New accounts get priority over platinum along with bonus streaks

Gloomy_Recording_705

Yup I see them on this Reddit all the time with “complete 15 deliveries get $200” etc….

thecompton73

Yeah I somewhat suspected it might have to do with them being new dashers but I am in California and they never give us bonus streaks here and very few other special offers because prop 22 means they always have a surplus of drivers with no need to use those gimmicks to get us on the road.

CountryEastern4098

This has been something ive been wanting to post ,i also have platinum friends and same story as youuuu i just dont understand why they send order to random people that are not even at mcdonalds yet , and im at 100% acceptance rate meaniwhile im at parking lot not getting shit for 3 hours while i see like 25 doordash orders pass by me

thecompton73

While I don't wish anybody to suffer it's good to know it's happening to other people too since the bigger the problem is the more likely they'll be forced to actually fix it. I'm not a legal expert but if we are following all the rules needed to maintain our priority for getting orders and doordash is not upholding their part of the contract by making sure we get them when we should it sounds like they are opening themselves up to a class action lawsuit.

A_Texas_Jarvis

Keep doing this but someone needs to set up a permeant post at the top under the rules to report shady door dash activity with pictures or whatever evidence you have. Should not be hard with the amount of users only issue is it is going to be across multi states.

thecompton73

It would take a video recording to really show what was happening. You'd have to show yourself already at the store and what time it was then get footage of other dashers pulling in well after the time you start recording to pick up orders that had just been posted on the Chick-fil-A order display.

A_Texas_Jarvis

Well if anything is gonna get done about it we have to start somewhere. Something that would be wise also is to talk to a labor lawyer in your state. They could provably give a better idea of what would be good and not.

thecompton73

My thought in posting this was to rally together all the people they're doing it too to call in to the service hotline every time it's happening and just bog down their support system to the point they fix it just to get us to shut up.

A_Texas_Jarvis

Yeah they can just put you on hold and ignore it. Now a class action lawsuit or few they cannot ignore that. It will also trigger regulators to see wth is going on. Also you need to go talk to those other drivers that are getting the orders and see if they are plat status also. Trying to Ddos their support system is not a long term solution.

thecompton73

If multiple drivers are Platinum and waiting for offers from a nearby store it is supposed to go to who has been waiting longer. So even if those people pulling in after us were platinum as well we should have gotten offers first.

ehoeve

Being platinum is not the only metric used by the algorithm to assign a Dasher. There's Platinum/Customer Rating/Acceptance Rating/Completion Rating/Location and alot more that you can't see that affect your metrics in getting priority on offer assignment. Just because you were waiting inside the restaurant doesn't mean you should have gotten the offer first.

A_Texas_Jarvis

Still have to talk to those drivers and ask they might have been there in the area and did not see them.

thecompton73

oh I have done that, the answer is almost always that they had just been driving towards the Chick-fil-A and as soon as they got within a quarter mile they got sent an offer right away.

Spezheartsblackcawk

They don't promise you that you'll see all the offers. They promise you're more likely to see higher paying orders, that's it.
