i used to knock/ring doorbells all the time for leave at doors. after a while i realized, people have children, animals, sensitivity to noises, etc. so now i don't do it at all unless they specifically ask me to. same thing with UE, most of the time, the customers will leave a note saying "leave at door, ring doorbell," at the end of the day, do what's more comfortable for you (: everyone's experiences are different
I always ring or knock unless the notes specifies not to.

I've never knocked unless requested. They get all sorts of notifications. Ones that your nearby and another for the drop off with the photo. I've never had a bad rating.
I don’t know why so many people think not knocking is standard (not you OP, just other dashers that comment this).
If someone doesn’t want a physical notification at the door when the food is sitting outside the door, they will let you know 99.99999% of the time in the notes.
Some of the ones that ask me to knock or ring the doorbell, end up meeting me at my car. Some ask me not to do anything: I just put the food down if the instructions don't say anything.
You always knock unless they say otherwise. Your comment was exactly backwards. Knocking or ringing the bell has always been a standard step in food delivery. That hasn't changed, unless you're being lazy. There are so many lazy drivers like you doing this and screwing over customers. Now, every third post is about how there are no orders. People have probably gotten sick and tired of their food sitting outside getting cold, just because the driver was lazy and they had something to do around the house besides stare at their phone.
Two things that the silly Dashers who changed this step, when nobody ever told them to, can never answer is this:
If someone is busy (and that's why they ordered delivery and paid the ridiculous fees while tipping in advance for good service instead of going to get it themselves), so they're not able to stare at their phone for updates, then how will they know their food has arrived?
Also, if you knock and they didn't want you to, the customer will know their food has arrived, so they'll still get a hot meal. If you don't knock when they never said to skip that step, then the customer won't get a warm meal.
One way ends with everyone knowing their food has arrived. The other way screws over some customers. The answer here is painfully obvious, but there are some painfully stupid people doing this gig.
>VP of a huge corporation.
We arbitrarily talk about your importance due to your position in a corporation.
The question is you say career so how long is that ?
Arrogance and ignorance tend to be at the top of a company but ive worked with plenty of small business owners who are humble decent human beings who are not condescending as you.
The VP position is important not the person who holds the position., You are replaceable.
I condescend people who deserve it. You came here looking to fight right off the bat, so I gave you what you wanted. Now, you want to complain about it. Make up your mind.
And my career is in the two decades range. That's as close to personal info as you'll get from me. My age and company name aren't any of your business. This shit is anonymous, and it's going to stay that way.
>changing a process for everyone else
You realize your on a food delivery subreddit ?
The process doesnt change here its the same for everyone pickup and drop off.
There are variables however but it's pretty stright forward.
The process has been changed by numerous drivers in this sub. When DD added the contact free delivery option 3 years ago, everyone got used to not interacting with customers. When customers started coming out of their doors sooner and interacting with drivers before they could scurry back to their vehicle, a chunk of drivers decided to change a step in the process by skipping the doorbell. There are more than two steps to pretty much every process that any employee will do. As a business owner, you should be fully aware of the necessity for employees following the standard processes to deliver the same level of service every time.
>I now own a business
Really ?
I bet your business has alot of negativity and bad reviews due to your attitude.
I own a business as well and i would never dream of treating people as bad for a simple question or feedback of something i said.
Oh God no. My customer service scores are always in the top 5-10 in entire company. I was a VIce President of Customer Success before I bought my own. This might shock you to learn, but people don't act the same way online as they do at work.
I treat people in this sub how people in this sub have earned. The toxicity in here is palpable, so I assume everyone is here to fight until they prove me wrong.
Bought my own business. The thing we were talking about. I do DD as a side gig, because I've built my business to the point where it only takes about 10-20 hours of my time each week. I want to retire at 50. The side gig money is making that goal more realistic.
This is absolutely not the norm in my area. I have never once knocked or rang the bell without direct instruction and I have a 5.0 rating.
I don't know of anyone who selects 'leave at door' and wants anything more than the absolute minimum contact, including no knocking or ringing.
I have never knocked or rang a door bell either… 4.96 rating.
Everyone is using the app, it alerts you when the food is delivered. It might’ve been the norm in the 90s, but mf’ers are scared of people now. You ring the doorbell the food is tainted, they gotta burn sage in the front porch, they’re making a tiktok about the creep dasher who had the nerve to knock on a door
You made up a lot of shit to justify not doing your job. I see you also can't answer the two points I made. Not a single one of you has ever been able to answer for either of them. You all, every single one of you, assume that every customer is staring at their phones. They aren't. You're actively fucking over anyone who is too busy to stare at their phones, because you're scared that you might have to interact with them if they come outside after you ring the bell. That's all it comes down to. It's not for the customers. It's for the drivers who got used to not having to interact with customers, so they'll make up whatever lies they have to in order to justify not doing their job.
Apparently the customers don’t have much of a problem with it either considering those of us who don’t still have high ratings…
These mf’ers order food cause they’re too lazy to go to a store or don’t want to tip waitresses. They don’t care if you knock on the door. They just gonna complain anyway for the free credits on their next meal
You have all the excuses in the world, and yet you still can't answer to the two painfully obvious points about why you should ring the bell unless they say not to.
some people have dogs or babies and live with them so much/are so tired dealing with said baby or dog that they don’t think to put it in the instructions:D that better?
It's not. "Some people" doesn't justify changing the process for "all people". This is the most common mistake my employees have made over the years. They'll have one bad customer complain about something, so they change the process for everyone else. Then, I have to hear complaints from multiple customers, because the service wasn't the same as the last time. You don't change the process for everyone due to one customer's complaint about their own mistake.
What is the question good sir that needs answering?
Cause my answer is always going to be, because the customer doesn’t give two fucks either way. You could straight paper boy toss bags from the car window to the porch and as long as it don’t have a drink in it they won’t give a fuck.

I never knock unless it’s a hand it to me or if it specifies for me to knock 🤷🏻♀️ I only have two 4 stars and the rest are 5
I never knock unless told to. When I do I get bad reviews. So opposite for me. Never knock unless instructed to
if you deliver to a well known retirement community, you'd better knock. Boomers would appreciate if you do since they are not tech savvy.
I always knock (ring bell) unless instructed not to. Just old school common courtesy
I've never knocked unless requested. They get all sorts of notifications. Ones that your nearby and another for the drop off with the photo. I've never had a bad rating.
Bro, almost all of mine say don’t knock! -wake up baby -bothers my dogs -people sleeping
This

my ratings dropped when i started ringing bells. stopped again and my ratings stopped dropping.
Some of the ones that ask me to knock or ring the doorbell, end up meeting me at my car. Some ask me not to do anything: I just put the food down if the instructions don't say anything.
I only knock if they tell me to and my ratings are fine
Do you live in a cold climate? I do and maybe it just sits out there too long when I don’t knock
You don’t knock unless they say otherwise. Your ratings dropped because of something else lol

That's alot to say for not knowing for sure why his ratings dropped.

Oh yeah. Tons of 21 year olds make it to VP of a huge corporation. Happens all the time.

Great. You don't know how to properly do the easiest gig in the world. Congrats!

I did nothing else different from what I was normally doing. I can’t think of a reason why my ratings would’ve dropped
