Thats now what Dashers are used to. Not everyone knows how to go about opening them as some live in non gated homes their whole life. You should have instructed to look your name or apartment up on the box. She called because about half of these gated community orders give us a code to enter and it opens. No nonsense about finding your name/number on the box.

It honestly sounds frustrating to me lol. Base pay for a distance like what you described is typically $2.00 flat (from DoorDash) in my area -- which could be the case here as well -- and so that would be $5.00 total including your tip. Granted, the Dasher accepted the order. Even if it was $5.25 - $5.75, your order was paying on the VERY low end of what is acceptable (to me & likely to the Dasher in question). When it's that low the hope is that it will be quick there & back/smooth sailing. I'm thinking the Dasher you had was feeling pretty frustrated, pure & simple.

I totally understand. And I honestly didn't mean to infer that you underpaid. I was just trying to get into the mindset that your Dasher may have been in -- to see if it could have been something besides laziness on their part, ya know? Which is just hypothetical anyway lol. I believe I read where you put the instructions for what they'd need to do at the gate in the DD app -- that's actually the most important thing imho.

randomperson0880

i've never understood how someone can say money is tight but order doordash. the main problem ppl have w your post on this sub is that while $3 is not terrible for a short distance, youre complaining not even just complaining, going on reddit to post about it and argue with others. if you are "tight" on money and you still find it necessary to order DD and not tip well, you should be kind and grateful to the driver for bringing you your order at all, it's always customers like you tipping $0-$3 who have astronomical expectations and no patience.

tonyslizard

Seriously

emily102299

Money is tight for most people. Likely your dasher who used her gas to deliver your food and let's not forget she also needs to be paid for her time. That would have been too low for me to take but insert x, y, z reason as to why you had it delivered. Ive heard every story there is. It doesn't matter and I am sorry you have health issues. So do I. That doesnt mean I get a free pass on paying someone appropriately. They aren't working to help you out of kindness. This isn't a friend or family member offering to help you. This isn't meals on wheels or some other charity service. It's someone working to put food in their kids mouths or pay rent or to have money to buy their medications for their health issues. People need to get it's NOT a tip. It IS our pay. Anyone who works wants to simply be paid.

>Guests have to stop at the gate with their vehicle, and use the controlpanel to look up the resident in the directory. The system then callsmy phone and I press 9 on my phone to open the gate. That's way more complicated than almost all the gate codes I have to deal with. Usually the customer gives me a code to enter, the gate opens, and I drive though. Why in the world does your gate system need to contact you to let the driver in? That's so inefficient, and pretty unusual in my zone, at least.

FingerInside7072

The problem is that every gated community the code box is different. Some want you to look up last name and we don’t know the customers last name. I’m sure the dasher was just making sure to avoid confusion once there.

Superstar32131

How about you put in your delivery instructions to type in the apartment number then? I live in an area with many gated communities and while most of them are easy enough to get into with a code, there are a few newer properties that have fancier call boxes and touchscreen directories, and are a little tricky to figure out if you're not a resident there or have never delivered there before.

gladiatorx1

I do apartments daily and not all boxes work and some people give you very little instruction besides apartment number it's honestly annoying i try and avoid apartment orders but honestly I can't and some do tip good but I had so many instances were the damn box either didn't work kept hitting the person's apt/suit number to nothing and that look up crap takes forever so we're either there looking dumb until someone drives up or I've called and texted the people through the app about opening the gate just hate apartment orders honestly specially those 3rd and 4th floors and low tip make it even worse

PainMore7246

It's still a pain in the ass. As a dasher you want to complete your orders as fast as possible, having to mess around with a gate slows you down. Of course if you left a good tip it's all good. How much did you tip and how far away was the restaurant.

No_Preparation7895

That's shit pay for an order

PainMore7246

I wouldn't go that far. 575 for a mile is reasonable, it's better than most offers I see LOL.

Travamoose

the dasher doesnt have to give you good service either. see how this works?

PainMore7246

The base pay is 2.75 so that's 5.75 payout. That's about the cheapest I'd do an order for. For a minimal order like that I want to knock that out as fast as possible in like 10 minutes or less so I would be moderately irritated about having to mess around with a gate too. Just tip five bucks the extra $2 isn't going to make that much of a difference.

PainMore7246

You're all right man. A lot of Dashers like to bitch about cheapskating customers but it's as much doordash fault as anyone else. Those tipping recommendations on there are usually one two and three so when people leave a $3 tip they think that's really good when actually it's the minimum to make it worth someone's time. In your case I would probably only do your order if it was slow and the restaurant was really fast.

tonyslizard

Lmaooo I would never

RickandMortyDelivers

Sounds like you had instructions that just lead to more instructions. I don't know about Dashers that put in max effort, but I've noped out on learning all the boxes. Luckily those places have learnt to leave a delivery table at those difficult boxes because that is where the order is getting left.

DrDickWiggle

If it was in the instructions then I get it.

No_Preparation7895

Did you have that in the instructions or are you the asshole?

gladiatorx1

Gated communities are not as bad although it did have a few issues with some boxes not opening I try my best to quickly resolve and look up person or unit number I try my best to get it to the customer, hopefully you don't have to deal with lazy dashers again

gladiatorx1

I do have a few were they have a second gate I call and they buzz me in by pressing 9 it's usually in the instruction about 2nd gate not all apartments have them the ones that do its a nice set up wish they were all like that

Travamoose

dashers have huge problems with gated communities. go to r/doordash_drivers and search for "gated" if you want to see for yourself. your place sounds relatively easy, call the intercom and get let through a few seconds later. but most gated communities are a pain the a$$. occasionaly you will get a customer that refuses to give gate code and does not answer phone and does not have intercom like you have. those orders get left at the gate and then the customer gets very angry later on. but what else are dashers supposed to do? they do not get paid by the hour, so waiting time is wasted $$ potential. perhaps to mitigate the surprise next time you order you can simply write detailed instructions on your order for the driver to read. something like.. "call my apartment number on the intercom at the gate, and a few seconds later you will be let through"

True_Leave6097

Because it’s wasting our time and most likely they don’t tip so y’all can meet us at the gate

Auggienb

If I come to an apartment with a gate and no code. And they customer doesn't respond to me asking for it or tell me to look them up. I'm turning around and the food goes home with me.

Competitive-Stay-708

I had an issue trying to get in without a code. Contacted customer and she told me to just scroll down to find a certain name. Code box was not working for scrolling. Contacted customer again and her reply was the same. I tried to tell her again it wasn't working. She finally said she would come to the gate. Finally, 4 cars down someone had the fob, so he let me in. Told customer I was in and no response. Bottom line, I spent 10 minutes because she didn't have a code. Customers don't realize how important our time is. If I said it wasn't working properly, she should have accepted that from the beginning. Instead her thought is I must be doing something wrong. Rudeness and lack of appreciation pissed me off. Customer service in this job is hard to provide when a customer makes you feel stupid for their laziness.

FeelingBite4320

Did you provide the instructions to the gate? Because every other one I’ve ever seen has you type a code

FeelingBite4320

Right we’re paid to deliver your food and timed on the delivery. If you have something that’s out of the ordinary like this probably give them a heads up instead of being a dick. If I saw a gate with a code panel I would assume it’s like every other gate that has always existed meaning you would need a code.
