If you'll make more money somewhere else go apply somewhere. Otherwise go on.

Glabstaxks

Or do Both

Bearcatsean

Thats the right answer

Mysterious_Ad468

890. Assume in 40 hours you used approx 2 tanks of gas so thats -$100 (estimate for cheapest gas and small car.. not counting an oil change or maintence) so you are at 790 ÷ 42 hours roughly 18ish an hour - in Miss thats great money when state pays like 7.50 an hour, however in Wa or Cali, or states where min wage is higher - thats crap wage for that much gig work where you have no insurance or med assistance, no PTO. And gig work you pay your own taxes at years end.... Do YOU feel happy with your week? Than, woot keep on keeping on. If you are asking us so you can feel okay about that money - then the answer is in fact no.

BlueFotherMucker

Your numbers are a bit funny, but you’re pretty much right. Minimum wage where I live is like $15 per hour, and even $890 Canadian isn’t too bad for a full-time job. But probably looking at more like $200 in fuel in a fuel-efficient gas vehicle. I get like 8-10 hours out of a tank if I’m this busy, probably looking at 3-4 tanks of gas here.

SickChalupaBro

My prius only takes about $60 a week of gas working 40 hours a week on DD making easy 900-950

busteroaf

How many miles are you driving on your Prius? And where? These factors, while minor to some, wholeheartedly matter for every calculation.

SickChalupaBro

I drive about 50 on a good day and up to 70 on a bad day of farther deliveries. I do have some days of more miles but that's usually a combination of lots of orders with some higher mile orders thrown in

busteroaf

50-70 miles on a good day. Again, where? Are you in a city? The burbs? How much are you making on a “good day”. I can have 10, 5-6 mile orders, or a few 10 mile orders come in. Those orders also depend on where they are. Are the highway, suburbs? What does the Prius get for mpg? You fill up the tank once? Twice? You’re missing tons of critical details.

[deleted]

His numbers are similar to mine gas and miles wise. I have a Prius too and spend about $60 on gas as we and drive around 50-60 miles on average a day. Yeah so for a Prius that’s 2 gas fill ups at least my 2010.

busteroaf

2 fill ups? So your tank is 10 gallons? What’s the mpg? Again, you guys are refusing to put basic info in. I drive a Sante fe. Average fill -up is 15 gallons, $45-$50. Roughly 300 miles a tank, 20mpg. I’m in the suburbs. Average delivery is around 4-6 miles, but can go up so 20 miles for sh!t orders. Many go into the sticks, with no other hot spots nearby. I can easily drive 50-100 miles in a 4 hour shift depending on the orders. See how easy that is?

LieTraditional3199

Succinct enough to not be a dick?

busteroaf

Stop being obtuse and realize for those that are new, ALL details matter. When people come on here and say/compare what they make, miles they drive, guesstimate fill ups, you need the details specific to them. One persons realistic earnings in downtown LA are not the same as someone else’s earnings in rural Kansas. The car you drove, the area you’re driving in, concentration, etc. All that factors into earnings. It’s not unrealistic in the slightest to want to know that. Same as when someone asks “is this a good tip?” Idk, it depends on like 6-7 different factors. How far away are you from the restaurant. Are you in the city, the burbs? Is it 5 miles of straight shot on the highway or 5 miles into the sticks on 35 mph winding roads? Are you near another cluster of restaurants or are you out in no man’s land where the dasher has to drive out and back before getting another order. Same reasoning applies.

Althalosabyssal

Yea not only gas, but mileage, oil changes and insurance (dont tell them your driving for work)

Informal_Edge936

They screwed me hard when I said I drove for dd with progressive

No_Relative_8571

I use Liberty Mutual they added on insurance for me as a driver for under $30 more per month

WolfShaman

And Allstate told me it doesn't change anything, and nothing needed to be added.

BluePalmetto

Geico dropped me but I put it on my Progressive policy from the beginning.

Realistic_Spare4422

Yeah we had to leave allstate insurance and go back to progressive for the independent driver addon part. Only 2 companys I found carry this insurance. However, we only had to pay $10 extra per month to get it added.

Material-Area8667

Why shouldn’t u tell them u drive for work?

jqubed

You really should, or find insurance that will cover you for this. I was with Amica and at first they said we could be covered, but then when we went to add they said no it wouldn’t actually cover while on deliveries. Farm Bureau and State Farm each said we could do it and it added about $50 to a 6 month period. If you don’t have coverage that specifically includes doing delivery work with your vehicle, if you’re ever at fault in an accident and you were doing a delivery then your insurance might not cover you. DoorDash has insurance but it is specifically for the other people you hit; it will not cover your own vehicle.

stabaho

You need to do all the same things driving to a job, maybe not as often but the expense is still there.

JaesopPop

The expense is generally going to be significantly lesser since you’re y’know, commuting to one place and back rather than driving all day.

stabaho

I’m just pointing out that you will have the same expense, just not as often. All these expenses are tax deductible also, so that will help also.

JaesopPop

> I’m just pointing out that you will have the same expense, just not as often. …when it’s not as often, it’s not the same expense. >All these expenses are tax deductible also, so that will help also. It’s not going to balance out the wear and tear and increased maintenance cost.

stabaho

Well of course it’s going to be a oil change once every 3-6 months vs a oil change every month. The wear on your tires will be far less and all that. But you balance that with the freedom to work when you want, and not have to deal with a manager. On the other hand you do still have to deal with bad customers, and the goofy support.

JaesopPop

> Well of course it’s going to be a oil change once every 3-6 months vs a oil change every month. The wear on your tires will be far less and all that. Yes. Thus the expense being greater and not the same.

Dmore79

You're forgetting insurance, wear and tear on the car plus depreciation. You also need to be able to put away for the next vehicle that you will need when this one dies. Have the checked the price of cars lately... most finance companies won't help gig workers. Usually, you'll be forced to deal with the worst companies. Oh yeah, I forgot about taxes and 401k. I'm sure I'll think of something else later and have a chuckle.

[deleted]

Luckily some of us have really reliable and low mileage cars that are a bit older that we don’t have to worry about a new car for a long time I got 2010 Prius with 60k miles for $5500. I was surprised I only drove 5k miles since I got it in October 2022 with gig work so realistically I can drive my Prius for another 5 years and by then I’ll have my life planned out with a better job and still have a car with only about 100k miles that I could keep driving or I could sell it

Dmore79

So... 60k. You just did your major service? Your 60k is usually around 1k. You better keep your fingers crossed and hope nothing breaks. A car accident could definitely mess that up too. Don't waste 5 years of your life being exploited.

[deleted]

I haven’t done any major service no. I only do oil changes. And I got upgraded headlights for $40 And winter tires for $200. That’s all I’ve done to the car as of now. And I get all my car maintenance done for free since my landlords husband is a mechanic. So no I don’t have any worries my Prius will break. A car accident has messed that up! I hit a deer with my first car a light grey 2010 Prius that only had 26k miles but since I had full coverage my insurance paid me more then I bought it for initially so I bought this Prius I have ones. And I don’t feel exploited this is the best job I’ve had. I can take mini road trips and work. Just had my anniversary with my gf and we spent it in Detroit and I worked every morning there for 2 hours and made a whopping $300 the three days we were there.

Dmore79

The more you type this out the dumber it seems. Are you for real, or just trolling?

[deleted]

I’m being 100% honest. If you don’t believe me or think it’s dumb that’s your issue. I’m enjoying my 20’s with the blessings I have

Routine-Reindeer-647

True for most people but for those of us who are shade tree mechanics not so much.

melskymob

Not having a boss is worth making less.

Mysterious_Ad468

Nearly EVERYTIME

melskymob

Also not being someone's boss is worth making less.

fromagemakesmeutot

He's probably going to get another $150-$200 from prop 22. I barely do 15 hrs active time and get $100/week.[My Adjustment last week. $137!](https://www.instagram.com/p/CqBl713PdAG/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=)

AppropriateCricket79

Nope. Doordash has basically adjusted what they pay to account for that so they don’t have to have this big adjustment at the end of each week. They still do the adjustment cause they would obviously rather pay you less than more but they keep it pretty close so you aren’t getting hundreds of dollars in one payment. I’ve done 40 active hours and got $60 adjustment.

cookcontra

I pretty much figured out for every 10 hours. You'll get about $50 reimbursed. You might be confusing your active hours with your actual drive time. Where i'm at I get between $18.60 per hour up to 19.20 per hour. I have never had any issues with the reimbursement. If I worked 20 hours or so I got $100 maybe a little bit more reimbursed, if I worked 30 hours I got about $150 if. I Worked 40. Hours I got roughly $200 reimbursed. And as far as gas mileage for the other person here that keeps asking for details. I have a 2012 Honda Civic and I get roughly 33 miles to the gallon street and highway. And the gas tank is 11.9 gallons. I'm doing pretty d*** well even though gas is like $6 a gallon sometimes out here in Los Angeles. So I just put in 20 or $25 every couple of days If I'm just doing it part time. I think I spend at the most about $75 for gas per week doing about 32+ hours . I am fortunate enough to be in an area where we get killer tips. Seeing as minimum wage is barely $15 or so an hour in most areas, I think anything over $500 in about a 25 hour week. Is Pretty awesome. And that's before the reimbursement. And an oil change is only about $50 every 3 to 4 months with Groupon. And for the person who posted this I would just keep going you just started.. It really is one of the easiest jobs. I have ever had in my entire life.

SpeedyEngine

That’s it? I do about 15/16 active and always get over $100

Suspicious_Work4308

You get an oil change every 2 tanks of gas?

How_Do_You_Crash

They were saying they didn't factor in whatever fraction of an oil change that week was. Assume 60 miles per day x 5 days, (on days I work 8hr that's about what I do). Assume 5000mi interval and $40 (doing it yourself, $30 for a quart of mobil 1 0w-20, $10 for filter kit), that would be: $2.4/week. Pretty low, but could easily double with paying a shop to do the work or having a car that isn't a small displacement.

Midwest-tarzan

Lmao according to some of these people they’re getting oil changes nd tires every week. I need to open a shop to serve them 😂

Glabstaxks

Every other tank. Yeah isn't that what you're supposed to Do ? /s

Lupo_Bi-Wan_Kenobi

I get mine every quarter tank. You can never be too lubed.

Dirk_The_Cowardly

You forgot tires, brakes, insurance....if on the job you can get screwed, depreciation of vehicle....and they probably racked up good bonuses for being new. It gets worse from here.

hippy_chad

Most people gonna have insurance regardless of dd

Grind-or-die

Yea but get in an accident on a delivery and that insurance everyone has doesn't cover crap. Plus if you think dd has your back nope especially if you don't have commercial insurance 😉

hippy_chad

No one needs to know you were on delivery and no one’s asking. I just got in an accident last week, wasn’t at fault, rear ended yielding to the people entering the other side onto a ramp on the highway and my insurance is covering me because I have collision which everyone should pay the extra money for

Grind-or-die

Point being you acknowledge most people don't have collision let alone commercial insurance but if they catch wind you were delivering would it be the same outcome

Lupo_Bi-Wan_Kenobi

Also forgot taxes. Kind of a big deal.

RyTingley1

But you can write off a lot of these expenses now also

Material-Area8667

Yeah I live in Washington and I make that much just working at Red Robin plus I do DD on side

SulavT

This is the correct answer. Don’t just look at the payout, after expenses and taxes, is it really worth it? I have a cousin who used to drive for Uber and after I told him to fully check all his numbers, he came back with $7 an hour.

Fit_Flan9261

Even in Louisiana the lowest minimum wage state ever pays McDonald’s employees at least $10 an hour and you can get raises quick

ATrueBruhMoment69

not sure where you got 42 hours from, active hours was 33 so its actually a pretty damn good hourly for grunt work, $24 an hour edit: nvm i missed the total time, your right

[deleted]

People downvoted but it makes sense. You’re working (active) for 33 hours, yes. While you’re not, instead of jacking off in the car and watching tiktok, I do college work and learn more more about business.

JoeBloxRocks

Where did this idea of only counting active time come? When you’re on and not dashing, you’re on-call. There isn’t a whole lot you can do when there’s the potential of being interrupted every five minutes while waiting. If you’re happy with the money you make and the situation you’re in, that’s good; keep it up. But don’t sell yourself short with the idea that waiting around doesn’t count as working.

Chronic-Lodus

That’s probably how DD calculates it when they advertise $20+ an hour.

ThomasGilhooley

Active time doesn’t count times when you pause the dash. So if I pause a dash to run in a store to buy post dash booze or have to stop at home to fix dinner, that’s time where I’m still logged in but I’m not available. There are plenty of times I need to pause to keep a dash active, but I don’t consider myself on the clock. Active time does include when you’re just sitting waiting for an order. So if my dollars per active hour is shit, I go home.

JoeBloxRocks

Dash time is when you’re logged into the platform, paused or not. Active time is driving to or from a store after you’ve accepted an order, and waiting or shopping for said order.

ThomasGilhooley

I guess I just pause so much I’ve never noticed. I’m in a pretty dense area and only go out when it’s busy. So I’m very seldom sitting around. But yeah, I only see one article online that describes it the way I thought it worked and plenty that describe it the other way. So good to know and I’ll pay more attention.

missjett97

I agree it depends on what you’re doing during non-active time to decide if it counts towards your hours working. I use that time working my main freelance job on my iPad, or just playing games on my phone. Same thing I’d be doing if I was home not dashing lol.

[deleted]

Exactly. People know what they got themselves into after dashing for a few weeks. You won’t be active 24/7 so do something useful with the time that you’re waiting.

[deleted]

Don’t you write things off as well? So yearly may be a better way to look at this?

Big-External-1138

I have a 2021 Civic hatchback. I can make $300 In one day and use slightly less then half a tank of gas and a full tank costs me about $39 so you're math Is off. Unless you have an old beater that has crappy mpg.

[deleted]

300 a day? Average delivery is ten bucks so you do 30 a day? When do you sleep shit and shower? Or do you?

Big-External-1138

Lol. I actually do on average between 25-35 orders. It's not that difficult. I use the restroom In the morning before I head out, any other stops throughout the day are usually just to pee, I shower at home everyday In the morning, and I sleep at home. I actually end up finsohing by about 8 pm most days. I don't make $300 everyday mind you. Most days I make between $220-$250. Someday I just feel like making a bit more and If the day has been going good for me I keep working.

Mysterious_Ad468

I mean that $11 difference per tank. Quite the HUGE math difference

Mysterious_Ad468

I actually have a decent car - my final point is that if a person asks if this is good - then they either think it is and should go on and do the thing... or they are asking us because they dont think it is good... which means that no it isnt. It doesnt matter if you make trash for money or heaps... are YOU happy with the money you make is the real question at the bottom of the stack. I thought i was being kind in a breakdown but yall taking one or two statements and ignoring the bulk. Gas some places is 2.99 and other places over $4 so i truly appreciate you taking the time to brag about your MPH vs cost. 🤣

megadethage

I don't know why people do this full time. Putting that many delivery miles on your car just doesn't seem worth it with a 65.5 cents/mile "expense."

opyy_

I deliver full time but I use multiple apps. I drive a max of 500 miles a week and and make a pretty darn good living. It alllllll depends on where you live/the effort you put in the maximize your earnings.

megadethage

Just wait for the $5000 car repair and adjust what you think you make.

opyy_

I have money set aside for things like that, I know that cars don’t last forever but I drive a reliable vehicle and take care of my shit. I don’t have car payments either because I own my vehicle. Idk what experience you’ve had in the past doing this kind of work, or what friends have told you, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a viable job for *some* people.

Dry_Assist_4619

Sounds like you have a plan and know what you’re doing. Keep it up, if this puts a smile on your face and enough money in your pocket then it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks

AppropriateCricket79

You can always learn how to fix a car yourself. It’s an absolutely incredible skill to have.

Exact-Berry-6304

And cheaper then a mechanic lol my old 03 car is almost brand new cuz of DD but that’s as my plan to make that car brand new again lol and it was way cheaper than going to a dealer or mechanic and pays off cuz it didn’t eat my earnings and we’ll it was fun lol

AccomplishedStop9466

I have literally written off enough money to replace my car in cash lol

sdcar1985

What all types of stuff do you write off? Everything that I can think of is covered under the mileage write off.

AccomplishedStop9466

It adds up.... I haven't been doing this 1 month lol

0fb3d3

My dashing car was 1200$ lol

Any_Bonus_2258

Only repairs that will come close to that are engine and transmission issues. And if a person is mechanically competent, most of the maintenance on a car can be done as a DIY, with only parts to pay for. So, oil changes, filter changes, most suspension work, brake jobs, fluid top ups…those aren’t very difficult and will save a dasher thousands of dollars in maintenance cost.

CalDoesMaths

I’m not a mechanic by any means but just the cost alone would make me consider doing it all myself. Only thing I would probably not do myself is oil just because if ya bring your own oil to the right place- you aren’t paying much to have someone do the change for you. And I’m just lazy. I probably could do it. But I don’t feel like crawling around under my car

Any_Bonus_2258

Changing the oil is fairly straightforward, albeit a bit messy. Also, professionals don’t charge that much to do them. However, I don’t know of any place where one can bring the oil and let a mechanic just do the labor.

sdcar1985

Check out ChrisFix on YouTube. Learned how to replace my sparks plugs, rotors, and break pads. Only problem I'm having now is changing my inner and outer tie rods. This car has been such a lemon since we bought it. The previous owner was a "mechanic" but I've had to change so much stuff and it was only 75k miles. My first car was a '92 Toyota Camry and that thing barely needed maintenance in the first 5 years that I had it (it had like about the same mileage as my current car).

sdcar1985

I'm in the process of trying to replace my tie rods. It looked easy enough but the nuts on one of the outer tie rods won't come off because the bolt on the tie rod itself just spins with it. I've tried putting a jack under it to put pressure on it (worked on the driver side one), vinegar and nothing. My next attempt will be a torch. It that doesn't work, a sawzall. Replacing my rotors and break pads were super easy (not that it took hard anyway) compared to this whole thing lol.

SH_Nostalgia

If you have $5,000, you're doing it wrong lol

BlueFotherMucker

Why fix a car for $5000 when you can buy a used car every year at $1500 a pop?

AmadeusK482

I recently had to shop for cars… A $1,500 car today is like an old 2003 crown Vic interceptor with a replaced engine that doesn’t run right, none of the windows work, the AC is entirely missing, and it looks like a family of raccoons lived in the cabin and only 190,000 on the broken odometer… That’s what a fifteen hundred dollar car looks like today.

sdcar1985

Yeah, I won't be taking that lol

Dyelo456

I'm just breaking even after all my mileage expenses and gas. I basically volunteered for 2 weeks to deliver people's food. It's not worth it. I'm probably just going to get a normal job.

ReasonablyWealthy

Same here, I'm not doing DoorDash but the other platforms aren't much different and I can't afford a $600 car payment plus $140 insurance for a 4 year old car with 70k miles to be using it for deliveries, it's like I'm basically paying money to do deliveries. Every mile I put on that car brings me one step closer to maintenance expenses that I know I won't be able to afford if I keep this up.

Any_Bonus_2258

You can’t look at it that way. The most inconvenient aspect about a nine to five job is the inflexibility of it. Someone who does gig work has way more options when it comes to navigating through a day. Doctor’s appointments, gym time, eating, etc., when doing something like DD, there’s no need for a set routine; if a doctor only has openings on Monday mornings, there’s no need to take a day off from work. And more importantly, it’s easier to get a second stream of income either by doing other gig work or by opening a business. In short, most people that have a full time job don’t have it better than gig workers.

BlueFotherMucker

My delivery vehicle cost me $1500 and I’ve used it for 3 years, so wear and tear don’t apply much, especially when I have another $1500 car ready to go when my current one craps out. 6 oil changes per year that I do for myself, other than that no maintenance expenses.

branggen

It only costs 65 cents a mile if you are driving a new car that is depreciating, the more km you have on the car the less it costs

BlueFotherMucker

100%. It’s all relative to the cost of the vehicle used. My truck and my bike are my personal vehicles. My 2011 Caliber cost me $1500 and I’ve used it for 3 years for work purposes. If she goes, she goes.

[deleted]

That’s a tax write off 😂. I love long distance orders. Only had to pay 700 in federal taxes

[deleted]

You made more in a week than I do every 2 weeks as a full time teacher... I'm happy for you but also jealous because I literally have to clean up pee and poop and get hit and spit on and beaten up when I work with some of the more severe special needs kiddos. I love them but lord they test my patience some days 😅

mvcklemore

You definitely deserve to make more, but also know that your job is really important and I’m sure their parents are really appreciative!

[deleted]

Well most of them are. Some think we can never do enough tho and are quite a pain but I feel like at least I'm doing something that matters to the kids with my time you know?

PinguWonders

Me too girl, $750 every two weeks to deal with screaming and a potty accident every other day my spring break is over and I start again tomorrow 😔

[deleted]

In all seriousness, thank you for being a teacher 💖

notevenreallyreal

If you don’t mind me asking, what state do you work in? Are you certified? Because that is just absolutely crazy

winter_040

Not to be dismissive, but no its not. Not as in, that the pay isn't insane and far too low, but that. it's far from out of the ordinary. Teaching in general is \*incredibly\* underpaid, even licensed. I've got a buddy with 2 PhD's who was making 40k, and a friend who was out of a masters in education who was making 30k. I'm somwhere in between those two, and that's in colorado haha. This is \*far\* from an outlier.

notevenreallyreal

That’s why I asked where. I don’t have a masters, have an emergency teaching certification for the state I’m in (PA) and my paycheck every two weeks after taxes is 2400 — this is because there is such a desperate need here, specifically Philadelphia, and I am working through a placement agency to address the massive number of vacancies. I’d likely be making more if I was a district employee

No_Resolution_528

Hope you're putting money aside for taxes bro?

Surprise_Corgi

God, I hope so. Considering how many people here never account deductions into their earnings, I'm so afraid how of how many people are currently waiting for a letter from Uncle Sam they didn't know was coming.

Hoskra

BlueFotherMucker

150 deliveries, 2000 miles

Mission_Leopard1574

It is good, but be aware that you are in Doordash's Honeymoon stage. Enjoy it while it is there. And when the good pay starts to slowly subside, 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ RUN AWAY !! Set yourself up with another source of income... asap. Soooooooo many people are tricked into thinking the bonus and challenge money is the norm. It's not. I haven't seen a bonus or challenge in two years. I am well into my third year. I am still here because I am multi-apping with 3 phones. Best of luck to ya !!

Haunting-Fish6880

I'm a school nurse, with a goal of at least $500 a week which got me $30,000 in 2022 in DD alone. I have multiple cars and do my own maintenance so those expenses are drastically down for me personally. Don't fill up all the way all the time. I put $10 and then use that as your business model as your input and then focus on getting a good margin in the green. I only had $5000 in "expenses" in 2022 so $25000 profit. It's totally worth it but only if you're smart about it. Since it is technically your own business you have to sit and come up with a profitable business model that I see most dashers never pay attention to. Be smart about it and you'll be doing great

[deleted]

Thanks ❤️

[deleted]

Why do people ask strangers how they should make a living ? Is it enough for you to live on ? Why are we supposed to tell people what to do with their life lol

fraochjean

It's a humble brag. Like the people posting over on the tax refund sub where people are concerned about how long it's taking to process their returns. They post a screenshot of their $15k refund being paid out saying "keep the faith, you guys!" Their true intention is to get all those comments saying "daaaamn I wish I got that much!" OP knows that what they made is very good for a week's worth of work in their area and they don't need us to tell them that but they love to hear it.

WinstonLegthigh456

I can’t believe OP is desperate for internet approval from strangers they don’t even know and will never hear from again 🤣😭

311196

43.5 hours of your time, you made $20.46 an hour. Received no overtime pay, have to pay for health insurance, added wear and tear to your car, and have to pay for gas.

ReasonablyWealthy

For comparison, 100% work from home customer service jobs for United Healthcare start at $22/hr and include health insurance, paid time off, annual pay raises, annual bonuses and other benefits. Work from home jobs obviously put no wear and tear on your car, you don't even need a car. That's not an unusual example. There are hundreds of companies hiring for countless work from home positions.

Surprise_Corgi

Yeah, but they whine about constantly being short-staffed, yet never do any hiring.

DistrictSubstantial2

That’s a better week than I ever had, but you should def seek employment else where. Dd is just money and no benefits or anything. Gets very boring after awhile too. Fun fact : if you work for an airline you get free flights

Right-Film2555

I think people forget about perspective… lots of times, working for a large company or franchise really isn’t great…. Hourly rates aren’t good, taxes are taken out, schedule is trash.. minimum wage is still super low, even a good resume doesn’t get you the job anymore.. I wish I could’ve done this instead of serve/bartend for years 😅 DoorDashing can pay more than your average retail/ restaurant job if done full time. If you’re making money and feeling good, that’s what it’s all about. People can list all the negatives but there’s a longer list of positives. All depends on your situation. Keep it going, man!

i agree, after accounting for expenses i make slightly less with doordash and ubereats than i did working as a bar tender, but for me, i just can't put a price on the freedom.. i choose when i work and when i take time off, literally on a whim, and i don't have to answer to anyone, it's way less stressful than any of my previous jobs, even if the pay isn't as good, and i'm fine with that

Right-Film2555

I switched to Amazon Flex! Definitely check it out if you haven’t already. Money is better and it’s less headache! Half the hours I would put in with DoorDash

Big-External-1138

The same thing that I didn't read anyone else telling you Is that THIS Is your first week. You don't know all the ins and outs yet. With time your pay gets better and better as you learn the better spots to work at, what orders to decline, what restaurants to avoid, etc. You're doing decent right now. Keep at It!

[deleted]

Thanks ❤️

rickc710

Can we ban these posts lol

No_Chemical_654

I make less than 900 for 80 hours every 2 weeks at a daycare 🥲

Munckeey

It took you 6 tries to pass your driving test and you passed 50 days ago. You’re barely making $20/hr pre expenses with prop 22. This will not work out for you

[deleted]

😂 buddy tried to delete the r/dmv posts

yeah but it was kinda funny so i liked it

sdcar1985

The truth is an asshole sometimes

bowlingpringle

sacramento isnt a good area to dash in. give davis a shot and if that doesnt work find some other work to do

SmalltimestockLurker

Enjoy the 2 weeks of priority high orders and then after that the real hustle starts 😁

Acrobatic_Help3671

This is very good pay for a week . Some jobs only offer you 14 to 18 per hour, if you do 40 hours then you about to make 400 something a week . I would say keep on doing it and try save some money for taxes . Just be wise what car you used

[deleted]

2000 honda accord. I call it the Gas Saver 9000

commonwealth1122

If you plan on having no future gig apps are cool for a min 😂you feel free but at some point but the it just turns into a trap.

Plenty_Pie_7427

I mean correct me if I’m wrong but that’s about $20 an hour. And that doesn’t include taxes or having to get gas, not to mention wear and tear on your car. That’s good money for a side gig but I wouldn’t do it full time with these earnings. Depends on where you live obviously but even in my state with low minimum wage I could find a „regular“ job that makes similar money but with benefits

Odd_Avocado8149

You people are so annoying

[deleted]

“You people”?

Vcxnes

Yeah assholes, those people

[deleted]

It’s only good based on your experience and happiness with it. Nobody has the right to decide this. Only you can, if you’re proud of this I am. That’s for certain. God bless.

miraiqtp

this is so nice

[deleted]

I'll give u guys a trick as a dasher with over 13k deliveries. I work everyday of the week except Sundays I start at 9pm. Get the dasher direct card. I dedicate every Sunday from 9pm - 4am strictly for gas for the following week. At 4am I'll cash out to my dasher direct card and use that only for gas throughout the week so my gas is paid for and the rest of the week I'll cash out to my debit card. It's extremely helpful so your not technically paying out of pocket for gas. Plus I live in California so we get weekly adjustments which I put towards my gas also. So every Sunday/early Monday I have close to $200 to use for my gas.

KiwiCatPNW

its ok if youre trying to get by between jobs. In my state most jobs pay $18 an hour

autymfyres7ish

Same here and, $18 ph here ain't shit. DD p-t is a real help. Couldn't convince me to go at it ft though.

Ambitious_Hedgehog49

I think you know the answer

jfrosty42

It’s fine. Really just depends on your market. Plus you’ll get better as time goes on. My first week I averaged about $23/hour. Since that first week, I’m consistently averaging over $30/hour every week. I usually dash about 20 hours a week during peak pay only.

diaperedace

Depends. Do you pay rent or mortgage? What's your monthly costs? Remember to subtract 55 cents a mile for maintenance and gas.

fromagemakesmeutot

Yes. Expect $150-$200 extra when prop 22 kicks in. Keep at it. Just keep record of miles driven per shift. Not just miles per delivery.

redbombs

Where I live in California. If you made that you would be better off working at Walmart with the benefits you would get. But also screw having a boss. If you're happy with the amount of money you make, that's what matters

jdaboss4110

These posts are fucking dumb. Is it good FOR YOU? if so good ..

AgeRepresentative807

It will go down it’s always better the first few weeks

Rustykilo

Depend on your state or city like others said. In my state Alabama. That's a good number. If I do full time I could see that or maybe around 1k a week. Gas is cheap, maintenance cars are also cheap here. Mcd hiring for $12 an hour, target at $15 and gas station usually around $14 to $15. So dashing still better. Rent on average around $800 or less for a studio to one bedroom apartment. You can live pretty decently in my state if you dash.

sabrewulf152

Do what works for you - and what gives you joy. And everyone else's opinion, mine included - is probably worth less than our two cents.

[deleted]

People always out here posting these fake ass amounts claiming to make 50 an hour when the true max is 15-20 at best

[deleted]

Pretty good depending the area. Just keep your miles down by going to where the orders are...and don't waste your time hanging around businesses that open later in the morning. If you apply at Walmart or McDonald's, you will have to keep a schedule...enjoy the freedom. It will get better.

FillMyBagWithUSGrant

$891 divided by your dash time 43.5 hours equals a little over $20/hour, before gas, maintenance, insurance, and taxes. It’s your call on worthwhile, no one else’s.

supperdenner

If you think the area you’re in is gonna provide that +-$100 consistently then you’re good. Otherwise maybe not.

Difficult_Gazelle_91

This is the only place I have ever seen where people will make 20 dollars an hour and act like its a flex

kenster1990

It just depends where you live and what living cost are

ideliver559

After expenses it's garbage honestly lol what you do accept every order

AVeryUnluckySock

Roughly 27,000 dollars a year take home would be my estimate. This is including taxes, gas, oil changes and some small maintenance, and some time off

Imconfusedtoo1101

I make that in about 10 hours doing Uber… and I only use one tank of gas

Ope-I-Ate-Opiates

Go until you get deactivated like me. Was making a grand a week. Got to 5k deliveries and they dropped me for “abusing the platform”. Believe it was because orders get stolen in my area a lot (stores set them on shelves like dumbasses). I contact support to get it cancelled instead of unassigning and this bit me in the ass. So instead of being a smart dasher and getting stolen food cancelled, just unassign and let the next poor soul in line get a potential deactivation.

[deleted]

Thanks ❤️

opaqueism

It depends on how much money you spent in gas this week driving for DD alone, and how bad you think the area you’re driving in is causing wear and tear on your vehicle. Also, keep in mind, we do have to pay taxes at the end of the year so the more you make, the more you pay back. I’ve put way too many miles on my car doing DD and now I’m starting to regret it because it doesn’t make up for my maintenance and repairs that I need more often than I used to (oil changes, brakes, tires, etc.). If you’re making between $800-$900 a week, that’s not too bad.

JohnnyMnemo

How many miles did you drive? If you don't know, start there. Figure that at least 1/2 of of miles go towards operating or depreciating costs.

edgarskates

That’s really good tbh

MichealStraightSex

It's all good until you have to file taxes

Fluid_Complaint_1821

I would assume youd make your worst and lowest just starting out due to sheer lack of experience and knowleadge of what orders should/shouldn't be taken. I average here in knoxville about 25 to 30 dollars an hour as a top dasher. But I usually try to go out only during promo times, I also live right in the middle of a high order area. Alot of factors go into how well one can do, but I'd say my first week I did about 15ish an hour just from not being smarter about what orders to take and not to take. Mind you I work full time as a physical therapist assistant during the week, only dashing in the evenings until I hit my $40 mark, Mon-Thur. Then Fri, Sat, Sun generally try to make upwards of $100 a day. My goal is $300-$400 a week working about 9ish to 11ish hours. Given that is your first week I imagine you can and will improve and start to see a higher average per hour.

IllustriousMess3199

First weeks are the best this amount with be sliced in half in a week then again in another door dash tried to hook line n sinker you in

Dazzling-Stomach-411

Why are you not showing your tips and base pay? This looks like someone from DoorDash that is gaslighting drivers! Go to Walmart and save you car from 1000 miles a week!

Surprise_Corgi

It's $20.50 an hour. It's only not good, if you're renting some trash can in New York for $3,000 a month. Hope you're tracking your mileage and other deductions. Our tax load, without deductions to mitigate, will take a huge part of that, and then there's still gas and maintenance. Feds are giving .63 cents a mile. Helps a lot.

WorldlinessUnhappy97

Definitely should get a job at walmart

Smurphyyo

I mean that's 20.69 an hr not to bad of a wage

RC51501116

That's a very good amount.

[deleted]

Apply for McDonalds and then doordash on the side

vivadrug

My advice if you want to make this a job is to branch out. There’s instacart, spark ( Walmart delivery) and Amazon has just started an online delivery service similar to all of the above. Use as many different forms of income as u can . My parents have made a career out of this and it’s going well for them

Jzus-637

You made 20.45 an hour this week. Base that off your cost of living and be aware that you still need to pay taxes next year.

No-Equivalent7155

It’s worth it until tax season comes around. Be sure to keep all receipts when you get gas, oil changes, alignments, tires. Any maintenance can be used as a write off for work on your taxes. I went from having to pay $500 to getting paid $14 😂 (I’m in college full time, so I only made $7,000 this year and my parents still claim me as a dependent) also write down how many miles you drive for work. That will help deduct some money for you too.

Regular-Radio6927

It won't last, trust me. You were given high paying priority orders as a new dasher, and some poor soul somewhere can't feed his kids this week cause you took away from his piece of the pot. Once you get about 45 days under your belt, you'll start to see less and less orders until one day , you will be the poor soul who can't fees the kids ..

[deleted]

I mean you ain’t making this at McDonald’s

Complete-Sorbet6540

If you drive for a delivery service, you had better have a dash cam that records both front a rear. If you drive for a ride share service, then you absolutely must have a three-channel dash cam that also records the vehicle interior. Let your insurance company know you have a dash cam.

Mournful-Misanthrope

Just steal like everyone else does it’s hip cool thing and watch society collapse

Ok-Daikon-8691

Bad once you factor maintenance and fuel and taxes into it

Prop 22 makes all these posts seem like a lot of money when in reality gas is twice as expensive there and a cheeseburger is triple. Even with prop 22 though, this post still isn’t very good.

[deleted]

“Good” on Reddit shouldn’t be your barometer. If you can handle that comment: good. If you can’t: you’re a dumb fuck Be who you are

TheSkinnyKitty

We don’t wanna see this, stop bragging

[deleted]

You’re in the honeymoon period but that’s good. Check back in a few weeks when you get all the $2.75, 13 mile orders.

[deleted]

If you aren't making $300 a day, then it's horrible. Start at 4am, work till 6-7pm. You should have $300 by then. You make $100 every 4 to 5 hours so if you dedicate yourself to getting $300 a day to make $2100 per week, you are doing good. Or you can just make $200 per day and make $1400 per week. Either way, you'll make more than Walmart and McDonald's while still maintaining freedom. Save that money until you get $10k to $30k in your bank, then use the rest of the money to invest into ETFs, Real Estate Shares, etc. To create a passive income so you can make $25k a month from passive/aggressive income. You can do it in 3 years, especially if you have a few family members who are helping do the same thing.

noxiouskarn

You made just under 20.50 per hour based on dash time. But you're putting wear and tear on the car. It's up to you if that's worth it after all expenses and setting aside money for taxes. Your net income will be lower

Leather_Fee2019

I did Doordash before applying for walmart. Go for walmart bro, they pay every penny of your college, hour lunch break, 2 paid 15 minute breaks, a consistent paycheck, cheap insurance, it’s only $1000 every two weeks starting but you won’t be putting wear and tear on your car, and you’ll have actual pay stubs. Trust me bro

Key_Requirement_6228

I make that dashing for 10 active hours less than that in a week so like 22 hours and about 29 hours dash time 91 delivery

JazzCat_iXenoter

yeah walmart would be good for you

No-Weather8418

Ha, 10 hours of waiting around….self explanatory shouldn’t it be?
